The Margarita has been around since the 1930s - Margarita is the Spanish word for daisy, which are a family of cocktails which use a liqueur to sweeten the base spirit, and citrus, and the Margarita is essentially a Tequila Daisy. Its popularity shows no sign of waning though, and the base model has been built on to create many great riffs - here are 3 great ones.
SPICY MARGARITA:
1 jalapeno
10ml (⅓ oz) agave syrup
15ml (½ oz) orange liqueur
60ml (2 oz) reposado tequila
20ml (⅔ oz) lime juice
Glass: coupe or martini
Garnish: tajin rim, dried chilli (optional)
Use a lime wedge to wet half the rim of your glass and dab in Tajin. Add your jalapeno and tequila to your shaker tin, muddle, then add the rest of your ingredients to your shaker tin. Add ice and shake hard. Double strain into your glass, garnish with a dried chilli if you have one, and enjoy!
SIESTA COCKTAIL:
45ml (1 ½ oz) blanco tequila
10ml (⅓ oz) Campari
20ml (⅔ oz) lime juice
15ml (½ oz) grapefruit juice
15ml (½ oz) sugar syrup
Glass: coupe or martini
Garnish: dehydrated lime wheel
Add all of your ingredients to a shaker tin, add ice and shake as hard as you can. Double strain into your chilled glass. Garnish with a dehydrated lime wheel and enjoy!
Thank you to Boothby for introducing me to this:

PASTRY WAR MARGARITA:
30ml (1oz) reposado tequila
15ml (½ oz) mezcal
15ml (½ oz) Amaro Montenegro
15ml (½ oz) elderflower liqueur
15ml (½ oz) lime juice
2 dash saline solution
Glass: coupe or martini
Garnish: dehydrated lime wheel
Add all of your ingredients to a shaker tin, add ice and shake as hard as you can. Double strain into your chilled glass. Garnish with a dehydrated lime wheel and enjoy!

Campari and Lime!!! This summer was my Campari and Lime summer. I was experimenting with it a lot. It takes most spirits in a nice direction. And you can get great pink cocktails from it.

Oh, yes, PLEASE, Cara! An episode on all things spicy to spice up our cocktails! Segue: it’s been a good ten years since I was last in Melbourne, but I think I would plan a trip from here in Montreal, just to go visit Bomba. Two reasons: one of your signature cocktails, and one each of those excellent Scotches on the bar behind you! Starting with the Lagavulin 16yr. (Looks like the food is pretty solid, too!)

I make a spicy Margarita by subbing in Ancho Reyes Verde Liqueur in place of Cointreau, keeping the proportions the same as in my "regular" version. Your's looks very good! The first spicy one we fell in love with is the Norteno at the Coyote Cafe in Santa Fe, we've been drinking it, their green chile Margarita, forever..

Ancho Reyes is next to impossible to come by where I live, but I found a bottle when I was on vacation earlier this year. My recipe is pretty much the same as yours, but I like to substitute some of the Tequila for Mezcal, for a splash of flavor.

I make my spicy Tommy's by infusing the agave syrup with Habanero instead of the tequila and it's really nice!

Awesome video. The Spicy Margarita is a trend that definitely deserves to be followed. The Siesta Margarita looks like something I will like (Campari and grapefruit juice? with tequila? sounds great!), and I know I'm going to try the Pastry War Margarita, because I'm always looking for something to make with Montenegro. However, I have to admit that sometimes what I really want is a Classic Margarita made with blanco tequila, orange liqueur, lime juice, and a little simple syrup.

I make my spicy margarita like that also. Except I like to add some mezcal to it. Sometimes I’ll char a slice of jalapeño for a garnish. But the smokiness of the mezcal goes great with the jalapeño flavor.

my favorite and go-to is a blood orange margarita. I use liber and co blood orange syrup instead of actual fruit juice, and a 1/4 ounce of Campari for color and a tad of bitterness.

I've had good success using a few dashes of the green Tabasco hot sauce (which is made with jalapeños and has a lovely bright flavour) to make very simple spicy margaritas! It's definitely worth a try if one has access to that sauce.

I make my spicy margs or any spicy tequila based drinks with Ghost tequila. It takes the guess work out of balancing the spicy profile as the tequila is already spiced with ghost pepper without all the oils and other bits and pieces you get from macerating/fermenting your chilies 🤘💀🌶️

Now you're just playing background roulette. Studio > Bomba > I don't even know what this one is. I'd definitely love to see more "flavor explosion" drinks on the channel. The Devine Michelada from Strong Sweet and Bitter is among my favorites, which is incredible because I don't even like beer. Also I love your half rim method for people pleasing and I've been using it since the Michelada episode. Thank you!
@BehindtheBar
@BehindtheBar Год назад
Haha we’re pretty settled at Bomba now so no more back and forth! The studio was easier for the actual filming set up but it’s so much harder not having a back bar, sink, ice etc etc . Definitely noted re big flavours!

Not every orange liqueur works well with every tequila and proportions have to change as well. Cointreau tends to work well with most because it's not very complex. It's basically just orange. I like to use Arette tequila and I tried Clémont Creole Shrubb (which is delicious) but together they left a sharp overtone in the Margarita. "How to Drink" did a tequila & orange liqueur matrix that was pretty illuminating in that regard.

Definitely, Marionette works really well for me in most regards but it’s something that can be played with for sure.
