Close your eyes and listen carefully, you can precisely hear EACH instrument.... specifically the horn section, stringed instruments, guitar, bongos, bass guitar, keys, percussion section... THOSE HORNS, listen good and ALL keys, that Harp.... can you hear what I hear? Sheer genius!!!
Actually! When you’re in love with music, that’s what you have to do. But, you have to be careful of what you’re listening to also. Back in the days, radio always played the instrumentals first then blend in the lyrics.
DAMN....this was too complex of a song to be let out in '76....freaking genius and nothing today compares to this. Layers and the layers of sensuality.
I'm hip! Right on brother!!!!!!!!! However, as a very young lady back than, we ladies went Crazy over Marvin's song: "Distant Lover" Therere was no other song ever, not even today, that can put us ladies in the mood that Marvin did with that song, especially the live version! And, to add to his credit there is no other Albumn not even today that can top his: "What's going on Albumn" if a trillion years go by! He was a true Genious when he wrote and produce that one. Berry Gordy turn him down and told Marvin that people did not want to hear a song about war. The biggest mistake of Berry's Motown Career life. Even Smokey Robinson said: "That was the greatest Albulmn ever in his lifetime!" I love Marvin Gaye! He'll always be my favorite and number one artist of all in my "Etrernal Lifetime!" Check out these two classic tunes: 1)- Dream of a lifetime and 2) God is love ( both versions) Enjoy!!!
This was the promotional track. It was played in my local cinema. I bought the album straight away in the local record store. It is still my favourite Marvin Gaye album
Wow!!! I’m just about to turn 67 and this song still makes me feel sassy and sexy! What a beat man! What a beat! back in my day you got down to Marvin… oh yes indeed! ❤😂🎉
@@OjanMusic used to chat with Uncle Leon on his website. Here's the direct quote "Actually I'd written it as a vocal album for myself, but I was pleased to have Marvin sing my songs. It was rare for Marvin to let anyone produce him, so naturally I was honored. I thought we could do it all in a matter of weeks. It actually took thirteen months---just to lay down Marvin's vocals."
@OJAN So I take it that he was speaking of the entire album. That's why I was saying that he was serious about the project; it was his love letter to Jan.
One of the Dopest Beats, Song, and Album in Musical History Period. Marvin Gaye my favorite Singer and I wish he knew how much he was adored and loved. Hope he found that Eternal Peace he so greatly deserves 😞. Rest in Peace to the Prince 👑 Of Soul ✊ Mr. Marvin Gaye 🙏🕊️
I listened to this album DAILY at the age of 8! To learn that The Funk Brothers did the music for Marvin on this album almost made me cry because sadly they NEVER truly were given the recognition they deserved as studio musicians for Motown. One of the BADDEST albums of ALL time!
First heard this exact track, a Motown promotion track, at Edinburgh ABC cinema in 1976.. I went out and bought the album from the record store. It still sounds fantastic!
Thank you brother for posting this. I wish I could say more but right now I’m utterly speechless. PURE UNADULTERATED GENIUS. Give me this generation’s best R&B singer on their best day and they couldn’t touch this brother on his worst.
I did a lesson on this when I taught middle school. I used the Ecology song, X-Factor and Mama Said to prove a point if perspective for social issues which plague our lives regardless of age. My reflection of the world, abusive relationships, and parental wisdom were the themes used. It was the most proud lesson of content (at least to me) I had done.
Not symbol the artist formally known as?... I hope....lol (prince was a g still)...I was only kidding elvie.x...genius..we miss you Marvin g... and the brother p.r.i.n.c.e..deep humans......x..
epic, timeless and inspiring. the instrumental wit hthes BVs is enough to make u sit mack and go on the journey with it. The way the song builds is mesmerising
This song and Michael Jackson's Human Nature are the only two perfectly recorded songs I have ever heard. I don't think either of them could have gone back and recorded the songs better, wrote better lyrics, or been produced any better. They are both timeless records.
[Chorus] I want you-the right way I want you But I want you to want me too Want you to want me, baby Just like I want you [Verse 1] I give you all the love I want in return sweet darling But half a love is all I feel It's too bad, it's just too sad, you don't want me now But I'm going to change your mind, someway, somehow, oh baby [Chorus] I want you-the right way I want you But I want you to want me too I want you to want me, baby Just like I want you [Verse 2] This one way love is just a fantasy, oh sugar To share is precious, pure and fair Don't play with something you should cherish for life, oh baby Don't you want to care? Ain't it lonely out there? [Chorus] I want you-the right way I want you But I want you to want me too I want you to want me, baby When I get down with you, yes, darlin oh ooh [Outro] Get down baby Have mercy Listen precious I wanted you A long time I wanted you More than you can imagine Oh baby, so fine I want you - the right way baby I want you baby But I want you to want me too baby Gotta, gotta, gotta love me sugar Oh, the way that I love you Woooo, I want you
In the face of this crisis we all face , Tracks of this caliber helps to rejuvenate the heart and soul (Stay Thirsty For Life My Friends) Peace ! ! ! 🌎 🙏 👋 👤 .
This 🎶 was so ahead of its time.......just the rawness of the message being so grounded in our everlasting consciousness as an interpretative foundation for those who have transmuted it as their own 🤲🏽🎶🤲🏿🌹
One of the sexiest songs ever put on vinyl. The producers....Diana Ross' brother had a hand in it, I think... should take a bow. They were grossly underpaid! Check out the long version of this song on You Tube. It's a winner.
Thank you so much for posting this! I have been looking for this version for a long time. I had it and then lost it. The other instrumentals are different.
I am willing to let God and the mystetious ways! No talking necessary the heart understands that everybidy is not perfect all the time so to be you is just fine, be kind to yourself, not so hard on yourself,
Let me say this because it is very much worth noting: Ray Parker, Jr. is on rhythm guitar here. Though it was a major hit, I can't let Ghostbusters be even remotely considered a creative high-water mark for Ray. IWY is but one example of a major musical genius to whom credit is due.
The sonic density is just amazing to this track. It is the flip side or B-side as it was known (on the 45) release and only got airplay personally as no radio stations would play a track without vocals or one of this length...
One of the greatest music composers, writer of Soul and R&B his legend will live on forever and ever. This style of music can't be replaced... just listen closely you will hear the truth...
