Yes so true, I am a 64 year old black woman and grew up in a house thanks to my mum where we had every type of music. She is in her late 80s now and still loves the Rolling Stones. She spent a fortune on every thing from Sister Rosetta Tharp, blues jazz, opera, heavy rock, pop soul , r&b country, gospel, reggae we had the best time growing up I love good music no matter from whom. Favourite males Marvin Gaye and Stevie wonder, Barbra Streisand and Aretha are my ladies.

Very, very good point. We had a lot of struggles in the 60's. Martin Luther, Beatles, Stones, Hendrix, SF Flower Power, Moon landing, lol, and we had Stevie and Marvin. A personal favorite, Ciranjiva, We had it all. Today's generation has auto tune, stupid 'divas', race wars and riots. We Tip Toed Through The Tulips. Thank you God.

When I was young, all we had to hear were those first 4 notes of this song and we were hollering. Same thing with the beginning of My Girl by the Temptations.. Plus this was the first time a singer recorded tracks for the background.. Marvin was his own back up singers! The times, however , were rough for us... Marvin spoke to my generation. We witnessed some bad stuff and racism was no longer veiled, MLK brought it to a head and it all erupted, MLK gave his life for us. Marvin went into the studio and recorded this masterpiece. His songs after this were all about the struggle, while in his own life, he was struggling too.

RIP Marvin Gaye 💞✌ Thank you for the amazing music you blessed us with! Such a talent that left us too soon by the hands of his father. Very sad tragedy. Will always remember his talent. His duets were incredible as well. Tammy Terrell, Diana Ross, and others.

We had the best music! My 25 year old grandson once told me how lucky we were. Many a fella would try to imitate Marvin. We’d all have a big laugh.

Marvin was so talented. (I especially loved his duets with Tammi Turrell.) I was so sad when he died.
