www.themightydells.com An exclusive and rare interview with one the greatest lead singers in music History, Mr. Marvin Junior of The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Vocal group THE DELLS
I never met your dad but I always had great admiration for him and his God given gift. I personally think he is one of the greatest baritones to ever hit the stage. I know you are proud and you have every right to be....
There is only one Marvin Junior. He was a phenomenal singer. His voice is unmatched. His voice was rich, deep, raspy and soulful. I loved his singing and his voice. I loved the Dells. I am from that time when singers knew how to sing and could. Just awesome.
Marvin and Teddy Pendergrass did sound alike and had beautifully voices, Marvin's voice was a bit stronger but they both were awesome. They are missed by many. 🌹RIP

I thoroughly enjoyed this video and even learned a few things. I am a great Marvin Jr. fan. He was truly blessed with a mighty gift. His natural ability is unparalleled. I have the group's music but I seldom listen to it because I never want it to lose it's magic. Thanks for the memories
The Dells were Victorious! 1952 - 2012 60 years of Musical Excellence. Receiving: The 1991 Pioneer Award, 2004 NAACP Image Award, The 2004 Rock n Roll Hall of Fame Award, The 2004 Vocal Group Hall of Fame Award, 'The Soul of America' Music Award, The Doo Wop Hall of Fame Award, Voted Number 11 as the Best Vocal Group , The 5 Heartbeats Movie, was based on The Dells (They Were The Technical Advisors) The Dells Fans were their promoter, because they packed the VENUES to see them perform. The Dells, fired so called 'Good Management' early in their career, and received ALL of their money for years, and The Royalties are still GREAT! The 2 surviving members are: Tenor Verne Allison (84) and Baritone Michael (Mickey) McGill (83) View: The Dells Documentary on RU-vid
I love Marvin Junior to pieces. He is so awesome! Talented and a vocal giant. I love his voice and I try and fail miserably everytime I try to sing like him. Miss him. May he continue to rest in peace.
@@gregfoles5480 compare Dell's The Love We Had Stays on My Mind with Marvin and Tenor Johnny Carter to Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes' I Miss You. In the beginning with Teddy sounding like Marvin and Lloyd Parks wailing falsetto like Carter. That song was supposed to be for the Dells but deal fell through. And rest was history. Marvin may out sing Teddy but Teddy had the ladies throwing their underwear at him!! He had that command. Love both Marvin and Teddy. May they RIP.
I love this interview but the background noise makes it hard to hear him. The Dells got some much deserved respect in the 90's but still it's not the full respect they should have been given. Their name should be honored as the singing group highest standard. No other group can sound like them. Amazing!
The Mighty Ledgendary Dells RIH Marvin and Johnny Standing Ovation always 2021 I Touched A Dream with I discovered my DELLS love these beautiful guys forever
He is one of my favorite singers, Along with David Ruffin, Dennis Edwards, Eddie LeVert, Levi Stubbs and Teddy. Something about a raspy, gritty voice just gets a message across better. Lol
I agree with you 100% Dustin Roots. The singers you mentioned are all of my favorites as well. The name you mentioned out of the group that rarely gets his just do, is Levi Stubbs who was definitely underrated. Now that also was a beautiful baritone voice. I wasn't really into the Bernadettes' and Sugar Pie Honey Bunchs'. But when it came to Just Ask the Lonely and MacArthur Park and some others,it was a wrap for me with Levi. But Marvin Junior was definitely the man.
Marvin Junior Is A Very UnderRated Singer Dells Are One My Favorite Groups Of All-time Chicago Legends RIP Teddy Pendergrass Philadelphia Legend Dope Interview
I love all The Dells I dont compare to see who's the best i give them all my bbn props...i was in love back then married and it suck...my marriage that is.....I'm in love with The Dells always a very talented group...they can ...sang iuse to listen to and dance off of their songs....at the club and liquor house...yep they had jukeboxes
Marvin was, like every child wanted their father to be like. Strong, honest, and the force and faith of God in him. And on the other side of that, came this voice no one else could duplicate.
The DELLS are unmatched!!!!! I remember the last time I saw them in concert. They sat on stools but they saaaaaaang their asses off!!!!! I even got a response to an email I sent Marvin about the staying power of the group members. May they REST IN PEACE🙏🏾
The Mighty Dells. I will never forget them . I saw them at the Music Box in Cleveland ,Ohio at 10616 Euclid Ave . The club was down stairs and every popular group came through this club. I love them then and I love them now. 2021 the Dells . Thank you for the music.
One of the Greatest Male voices i have heard. 👒 Hat's off to the late great Marvin jr. He now sins lead in the Heavenly Choir. "May the Divine Creator be pleased ". AND to think Leonard Chess told this Supreme Grandmaster of Lead vocals that he wouldn't make it in singing. Ain't God Alright!
HE CHESS, EVEN THO HE MADE A HANSOME LIVING DOING WHAT HE DID HE DIDN'T RECONIZE THIS MANS GIFT.THAT TELLS ME THAT YOU DON'T LET ANYONE TELL YOU WHO YOU ARE. YOU MUST KNOW WHO YOU ARE YOUR SELF.
I played trombone behind the Dells many times in the DC area in the 70's. What a great experience and one the reasons I became so 'smitten' with the music business ... good old days for sure!
Teddy chose the right voice to pattern his style after, as did Lloyd Parks (late Johnny Carter). Though this video interview not about that subject, it’s very obvious and prevalent regarding those two giants.
I saw the Dells when they were doing college tours, back in the 1970s. You cannot appreciate how well these guys sounded unless you have heard them live. The power, smoothness, and control of Marvin Junior was awesome.
I am from South Africa, I grew up in a broken family, many a times we had nothing to eat for a day at least. We went to school under enormous difficult circumstances. What saw us through life, school and our spiritual life was the music albums of The Mighty Dells, we played LP,s by then. I am 59yrs old and The Dells is at the order of the day when I played my old school. God Bless The entire members of the Dells😢😢😢😢❤❤❤
He is such an amazing Man and Singer and this group will live on forever. They knew how to sing and never once called a Woman out their's name while singing...Rest In Peace to the Memebers that have passed on
One of the most powerful voices in R&B history. Known as "Old Iron lungs" for his ability to hold a note for an amazingly long time. Check out the Dells' hit, "Stay in My Corner". When they sang it live, he held it even longer.
My late good friend George Hightower took me to see my favorite male group The Dells in Oakland CA and I will NEVER forget that night I told George that no one can touch the Dells sound And all they sang about is LOVE No one came close Then came Luther Vandross many years later Thank you Dells for all of your beautiful music that will bless generations to come to realize what great music sounds like and what a SINGER can do with his voice (no nonsense music Thank you to all of the Dells 💜
Hi, this is the kind of music that you were made on, so all of us that was in that era,all of our children were made on those songs.so God Bless your dad and the Dells.
Great interview, fascinating to hear him speak so intelligently about so many topics. I've always loved so much of their recorded output and that album they did with Gamble and Huff really was outstanding, from memory" somebody's gotta move" was another example of Marvin's great lead voice. Thanks for reminding me of how much i miss them. I was lucky enough to see them live in the UK in their latter years and they were still outstanding. They made so much outstanding music, and their contribution to popular music deserves greater recognition. Thanks for posting...
