I understood what was meant. It wasn't that Kubrick literally forgot he made the film. In the context of the conversation they were having, he just wasn't thinking about Strangelove as the answer to the current problem. This was probably decades after Strangelove. Even though he's Stanley Kubrick, he doesn't walk around thinking about films he made decades ago. Matthew Modine mentioned that during the time he spent with him making Full Metal Jacket, Kubrick almost never talked about or brought up his old films. He was always focused on the present project or future projects. He wasn't the type to dwell upon past glories or achievements. A famous person doesn't always think about their life and achievements in the same way their fans do.

That must be something he got from playing chess

I think it was a measure of the complete focus and concentration he brought to whatever he was concerned with. It would take a moment to disengage and shift attention.

The Freudian analysis definitely applies, especially to the scene where Kong rides the bomb like a giant penis. However I consider the film to be, at least on the most accessible level, a satire about the absurdity of the nuclear deterrent. The film can be analyzed on many different levels and its characters address many aspects of the human condition. I think it is brilliant.

It's amazing to me that someone so brilliant doesn't have the intellect to understand the purpose of preventative weapons. He lives in a Hollywood world in which developed Nations are run by mad Men. He has no grasp on reality. He needs to go back to his movies and leave the geopolitical issues to the grown ups.

Sorry, but Russia is ruled by mad men. Entitled strange arrogant beasts. I'm beginning to think Russia's older generation can't handle reality. Getting rid of Putin won't solve the control problem. The control of information or the military.

One question still remains why would American cognitive scientist Marvin Minsky have two stuffed toys of Soviet cartoon character Gena the Crocodile in the background?
