I couldn’t get past the first 20 mins of this movie. My question is why does the movies display long suffering of middle age women? I’m middle age and I’m not living like that, I’m having the best time of my life. My three kids are grown, grandkids are doing well. So why all the sadness? It life roll with the punches good and bad.
I hear ya. My mom was 38. Funny thing. The actress Nanette Fabray who played Mary's mother on the original MTM show is still alive today. She is 92 so she could still play her mother.
This movie disappointed because it seemed unequal, Rhoda was a supporting player to Mary, it also made it clear that they hadn’t been connected all those years which was sad and not what I expected
Lol, Rhoda trying to get the operator to put her through to Mary.. I guess Mary and Rhoda didn't have e-mail yet. Social media still wasn't around yet, either. Just chat groups and IM's. Rhoda has always had a penchant for running like crazy through the streets of NYC to catch up to someone she loves. 🥰 I kinda wished Mary had thrown Rhoda's hat up in the air in the middle of the street. 😉 I love how Mary and Rhoda could always lift eachother up with empathy and dark humor. 💖
Not enough references to the original show Edward Asner easily could have easily been included. THis movie went in a very different direction then original series. Theyre in NY and theres no reference to Rhodas mother or sister or father. Why couldnt it have been in Minneapolis ? Georgette could have been included also. Did Joe (Rhodas husband on "Rhoda") even get mentioned? When did they seperate and why? This could have been great. A very bad lost opportunity and not only wasnt Phylis included she wasnt mentioned either!
I loved the Mary Tyler Moore Show. One of my favorites of all time, and while it's great to see these two together again this TV movie can be summed up in one word...........YAWN.........
Wouldn't Rhoda have stayed with her sister when visiting New York? Or is Brenda no longer living in NYC? I don't remember them ever addressing what happened to any other characters from the Mary Tyler Moore Show or Rhoda during this movie
@@jamessandy5873 ....you are incorrect. MaryTyler Moore was born December 29, 1936. Mary Richards was born in 1939. Both of those facts are easily verified online.
Could have been a pilot for a sequal to the origional. Might have been but never picked up. Many shows, the one I know off, was Kook's Tour featuring the three stooges (can be seen right here in RU-vid), that got extended and turn into TV specials.
@@johnny-becker I wasn’t trying to start something with you with my reply. There was no “attitude” behind my comment. I was just stating what I have read, recently, and what I read back when this movie first premiered.
Both are gone now. Two great characters from tv land. I wish they had at least mentioned Phyllis and some of the other people from their MTM shows. And why not? The people that watched this, at the time, wanted to know and it would have been more fulfilling for the audience. And maybe ABC would have picked it up as a series. Lost opportunity.
@@christine3043 if I was with someone that I hadn't seen in twenty years, I would certainly mention people that we would have hung around with. In Mary and Rhoda's situation, especially Phyllis.
This may seem a bit grimm which I do not intend it to be but Mary's husband's death could have gone one of three ways. He faked his death to get out of debts (which rock climbing is a common scenario), he actually died knowing that doing an inexperienced event will likely lead to death or, no twist what-so-ever and he just happened to die and there is no future story in the coming clips.
This feels like a cheap foggy Lifetime movie . Maybe they should have called it "Not Without My Rhoda: The Mary Richards Story". What's with the cocktail music tinkling in the background ?
This is the best part of a mediocre movie. It was a great scene between 2 old friends. Rhoda looked great! I love Valerie Harper. I watched Mary Tyler Moore for one reason which was Rhoda. They should have had the old cast come back, and be a reunion show.
Metro Promise Cloris would have been a funny cameo given Phyllis’ history with Rhoda but I think this was to just focus on the Mary/Rhoda dynamic and their girls
I think this is when Mary starts losing it and since her husband lost all their money...so she will ask her son, Kenny, for help to swindle Irene Silverman.
Rhodas accent is too strong here. Even on her own show set in New York she did not talk like this. Show only lasted 2 years without Rhoda on MTM show. Betty White helped tremendously but witnessing this friendship was special in each epi.
That statement came off incredibly insensitive. You're assuming that all mothers should be in their 20s to have children. Though we would all love to have everything figured out in our 20s it doesn't workout that way for many people. Mary was in her 30s during the original show and wasn't with anyone, so one can assume she was in her 40s when she had her daughter. Which is fine. My own mother had me in her 40s and hearing grandma comments from kids like the one you made was incredibly hurtful to her, and to me as a child. I'm now in my mid 30s and single. I'm pretty sure I don't want kids but if I ever get married, most likely it'll happen when I'm in my 40s or not at all. Maybe I'm not meant for it. But that is also fine. Everything happens when it's supposed to.
