Mary Fahl "Ben Aindi Habibi" house concert 12.12.2009 

A few short years ago I had the great privilege of having Mary Fahl sing in our living room. She requested that I don't put the video on line. She is an extraordinary performer and story teller with a voice from the angels.

This woman has one of the most beautiful voices out there . Her sense of drama and performance is impeccable . I love what she does

I discovered Mary Fahl quite by accident on the morning we were to leave for Ireland in 2003. I had to run out to the store and and get something, and this song came on the car radio. I almost fainted because it was so beautiful. I prayed the DJ would say who was, and miraculously, he did! I drove straight to Barnes & Noble and bought the CD. Every song on it is mesmerizing. Iv'e seen Mary in concert at Jammin' Java in Vienna, VA, twice--just tonight, in fact. :) Why isn't she famous?

A prime exemplar as to why Mary has been one of my favorites since happened upon her work in the early 90s. This is absolutely staggering.

No voice has ever sounded like this and no voice will ever sound like this. She is an original and there is nothing that can ever take away from her tone.

I first heard that exquisite voice in a record store in 1993. I bought the CD (October Project). Now here in 2023, a friend and I are going to her show in Columbus Ohio in May. How is she not famous throughout the world?

I first grabbed the other side of time on a lark. I thought the album had a great name and a cool black packaging so I bought it hoping the music was at least all right. Once I listened I was blown away by Mary’s voice. I came across this song at a time when I was looking for a few other moorish and moorish inspired pieces I couldn’t find anywhere on record and it was really precious given that it was unexpected. This and ‘the great unknown’ are my two favorite songs on the album and they encapsulate why I like her so much as an artist. Amazing voice and talent - would love to have a chat with her about the Middle Ages! Fascinating stuff.

We were lucky to be sitting in the front row for this concert. Mary, as always, was great. Too bad only two songs from this concert made it to youtube.

I started listening to OP in college in 1996 after a friend recommendation. Been following Mary ever since. Man, I can imagine the hair standing on the back of my neck if I was there hearing her go from speaking voice to full-on singing voice!

To Mary.. I love this song. My S.O., who lived for 7 years in India, traveled through Nepal, Afghanistan, Pakistan, etc., turned me on to this song. I also hope that you will upload to RU-vid my VERY FAVORITE song that you did, Raging Child. Please do that. It encapsulates and releases the emotions of many women who have experienced serious abuse (usually misogyny), so that many have reached a point of releasing those negative emotions for the better, after hearing Raging Child. I've seen Mary many times, everything from the big sound of October Project to more recent small backup bands and this was by far my favorite. Incredible intimate night. Loved her new stuff. You should check out some of Barbara Hambley's work Mary. An interesting sci-fi fantasy writer who has a medieval degree and mixes our time with others in some of her books. I recommend the Windrose Chronicles. Wink.

There are few Arabic words in the lyrics: Endi or aindI: my place, Habibi: my love wahashni: I miss him, and the rear sounds to me like Portuguese rather than Spanish, or maybe it was another medieval dialect.

Oh God, just listen to that magnificent voice, so beautiful too, and witty. No auto-tune here. Can you imagine hearing her voice echoing in the mountains somewhere? Here's a singer that deserves all glory, prestige and wealth that the majority of well-known, sleazy, satan worshiping, auto-tune singers receive today. Shaking their rear ends, boobs and wearing hideous, ridiculous costumes that they pay a fortune for. Nearly everything is backwards/opposite in our world. Loved the remark about the court slave and record deals. My other top favorites female singers are Francesca Gagnon, the Canadian singer featured in Cirque du Soleil's Alegría. Everyone ought to know Céline Dion. And Lisa Gerrard, (the Gladiator Theme Song), the Australian musician, singer and composer with the music group Dead Can Dance.
