I became really obsessed with this show for the first half of this year, and would record clips of my favourite parts to watch later
There is a part 2 as I recorded many clips
Maybe there will be a part 3 if I decide to watch the second half of the show :)
Some of the clips at the beginning end really suddenly, I am not sure why!
I truly adore this show

I was only 5 when this show was on but after having watched as an adult, I have to admit that the first thought I had was, "just how much Valium was she on????"

My favorite was when Mary had a bug on the counter. Every time it moved she would spray a puddle of insecticide on it. She had to leave and told this guy that if it moved, to USE THE CAN. When it moved again, The guy just picked up the can and smashed the bug. So cheesy you could even see the thread attached to the bug. A true comment on how people see a problem differently.

An amazing and quite excellent show - it was also in many ways *way* ahead of it's time ... but in many regards, *still* very relevant today.

Sure, they can stand there, put a knotted rope around their neck, and yank on the other end of the rope. Then....they'll understand the show, and realize they don't need to kill themselves.

Thanks for posting.. I don't think we had this in the UK, although we did have 'Soap' in the 70s. I've got the MHMH box set; love it - a great piss take of soaps generally. Cheers.

Mary Tyler Moore gave women in the 70s an avatar of inspiration. Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman gave women in the 70s a sobering mirror's reflection, a realistic view of the typical mid-america woman thru absurdism.

This was on during my undergrad years. It was not a big topic in my crowd, but the spinoff "Fernwood Tonight" with Martin Mull got more attention from us.

@@pamelabugh1812 in cases like these, i have to step back and re evaluate...maybe it actually means they are brilliant actors? In my opinion, everyone in the cast was pretty strong. In this show, the writing and directing style is where the crazy happened.

@@Mister_Listener .... I respect your opinion....Mine is....If everyone was high, we might have been able to relate to (or tolerate) Louise Lasser's acting. And even the "Good" actors had a hard time making this trainwreck of a show work. There weren't alot of programs to watch back then, so there it was....we watched it, made fun of it and we weren't the least bit surprised when it got canceled.

I'm binge-watching this on RU-vid after not seeing it for 45 years, when it was on television, and I was a teenager watching it with my mother. It's a weird show, I think it gained some attention in the press back then because of its weirdness, then that attention gained traction in the media and just snowballed...now, it has a mythological status in the pop culture firmament. Does it deserve it? Probably not. It's just a TV show.
