I guess this is as close as we will ever come to knowing what it would be like for the Beatles to have had a female lead singer. McCartney's production here and of course his bass playing is pure Magic
Very insightful Andrew Devay! Put into context, these were The Beatles in their creative prime, the Apple years. Paul found the perfect voice for not only Que Sera Sera, but Goodbye and Those Were the Days. It was his vision and clout that enabled this to happen, and like any great impresario, director, etc. he communicated to Mary and all involved how he envisioned it. And we can enjoy it's beauty forever 🎶💕
I remember hearing this on the radio in the summer of 1969 at Leo Carillo Beach in North Malibu, California. I was with a cute blonde from Anchorage, Alaska, named Chris. Nothing came of it and I never saw her again but it's still a nice memory. It was a great time to be a teenager.
I have been listening to your enchanting voice since I was thirteen. My mother would sing this song to me when I was very young . Your rendition is wonderful!
My Mother sang me the Doris Day version to put me to sleep. I was a teen when I heard this version on the radio. I always loved it, totally forgot who performed it; tried to remember for years. 5 seconds of Googling later, here it is. I still love it
@@jasonsnusberry3654 "Que Sera Sera" it's recorded in 6th of July 1969, the day after in Ringo's 29 birthday, George, Paul and birthday boy Ringo began working on "Here Comes The Sun", in both same gear also.
It is unbelievable that you can't buy this record either on CD or mp3! What is this a world, where you can not buy music, in which Beatles-Members are involved?!?
re recording marys songs brought me here i have marys album i dont recall this cover she has such a lovely voice she should have had more hits very talented and attractive lady
For those of you that do not know Mary Hopkin is doing this song that was done by Doris Day my family would listen to this version and the one by Doris Day
my father had this record, fields of saint etienne one side, this song on the other, in Argentina... My father is gone, youtube gave this memories back. I think the apple (beatles records) produced this.
" OTD, August 17th 2017, This Paul McCartney produced this song. He also played guitars and Ringo played drums. I gotta admit, the electric guitar parts are very unconventional and therefore refreshing.
Ringo on drums, Paul on bass, electric and acoustic guitars, recorded in august 1969, during the Abbey Road sessions. And sounds like it. I was half expecting a few "sun sun suuun here it comes" in the middle...
Nice. And yes does sound a bit like Here Comes the Sun showing the known Beatles involvement. Mary is a bit of an enigma but thanks for sharing what you have, great talent! Just like Petula "hated" My Love, sometimes the fans know best, and THIS is indeed GREAT TY!
I'm trying to confirm the recording date for this. Yours is the only clip to mention this, thank you for that. Are you sure about that recording date? (I have the original 1972 vinyl of this album [which is a compilation], but it makes no mention of the recording dates.)
Totally dated in its sound, but still one of my very favorite Mary Hopkin recordings. It's a shame she apparently hates it. Oh well, art is subjective.
Mary had a lovely sound, but seeing her flipping the bird on her Twitter page picture made me feel ill! stars are not always as classy as we wish they would be.
Another good'un, probably the best cover of an old old song. This & Temma Harbor are favorites. So many good songs out there that don't get played anymore. Am sick of hearing just the same boring 'top 10' oldies. How about the top 100 ? Only here on U-Tube. Sigh

ameblo.jp/galwayera/entry-12239501329.html Although of course, "Que Sera Sera" by Doris Day is so marvelous, Mary Hopkin has brought an another enchantment into this song. Especially, her pure, beautiful vocal and accurate harmony would become an unforgettable thing.
I used to enjoy this when I was a teen. Now I share Ms. Hopkin's disdain of it - the McCartney-superimposed chorus just doesn't fit the song! Poor Mary.
I just listened to the original, Doris. Cool song. Simple, but philosophical. That addition sounds more like a bridge than chorus. It detracts attention from the chorus que sera, sera, I think, there is something true that the bridge somehow detracts from the idea. If that Mary Hopkin criticised McCartney’s version, then she had talent, had some understanding that something was wrong. Yeah, not everything what sounds beatlish will suit the source material great. I think, she felt that there is something wrong. Good for her.
