Mary hit every note perfectly and sound better live than the CD. Mary sings with emotion which sets her apart from any other singer. She gives us more emotion in this since, "The Love I Never Had" live. A-1 Mary.
@LarryDWilmore79 Very few artsits have that gift of sounding better live than on CD. Fantasia is like that as well!!!! Mary performed this at the Miami Jazz festival and Killed it!!!!
when my heart heard mary j blige's first record/hit my how i could see that i would understand what she was singing about "i can see in color" is no doubt how i felt when my eyes was opened i am glad that a singer like her is here with us now love mary
@CuttinUpwithPatrick, By the way, Fantasia has had plenty of life experience. And she does not attempt to sound like anyone but Fantasia. I'm sure Mary J grew up listening to other artist also, but does it take anything from her talent?
walker519, actually I was not only talking about her voice on this vid. I was also talking about the recorded version. The song is beautiful and I tried real hard to like it, but it could have been better if someone else was singing it. Not taking anything away from Mary J or her raw emotions.....
I get what you r saying. And again, I am not knocking Mary J. She has a sound all her own and that is what being a TRUE ARTIST is all about. I really felt the book and the movie and wanted this song to move me the same, but I just didn't feel it like I used to with MJ's music. Maybe she has found a happy space now. It just felt like (to me) she was trying too hard with this one. Just my OP. Again, not knocking MJ.

@CuttinUpwithPatrick, Doin't get it twisted, I am a fan of Mary J's. A fan but also know she has not had a hit with every song she put out there. BUT, I am also a huge fan of "PUSH" the novel and "PRECIOUS", the movie. No one wanted this song to be amazing more than I did. But in MY OPINION it was not all it could be. It needed someone who could get gritty but also hold the notes. Mary J is the first to say she misses her notes all the time. She is great, but not here.
