Mary J. Was signed to Uptown Records by music executive , Andre Ferrel who died a few years ago , Some how Andre got a record from a friend of Mary’s who took a recording of Mary J who recorded a demo of One of Anita Bakers songs & the tape got in to the hands of Andre who had his own music label which was Uptown Records , he went to a 18 year old Mary’s home to listen to her sing and signed her to his label in 1990 and she recorded her 1st album in 1991 , he hooked her up with Puffy who worked with Mary on both her Music and even her style back in the day Mary & Puffy became close friends and continued to work together over the years . Labels Mary J was on Uptown Records , RCA Record’s, Geffen Records & I’m not sure who’s she’s signed to today , but she only worked with Puffy , she was never signed to Bad Boy Entertainments which wasn’t even around in 1990 from what I know of.
Now y'all gotta do a follow up reaction to her 2nd album titled 'My Life', it's only right! Now this one she came even harder & it's STILL arguably considered the top best R&B album of all time, not debatable. At this rate, y'all should honor Queen Mary & go down her whole catalog of platinum, double platinum & triple platinum albums. Let's give this legend her rightfully deserved flowers. She was signed to Uptown and Puff was her A&R rep. He got fired and went on to start Bad Boy Records. Mary stayed at Uptown/ MCA /Geffen/ Intrescope for most of her career.
