Sinn Fein leader Mary Lou McDonald talks to JOE's Head of Politics Ellen Coyne about a United Ireland, Sinn Fein's relationship with the wider republican movement and Boris Johnson
Their relationship with bankers goes even deeper then Marylou says. If Fine Gael and Fine Fail had any honour or decency, they would all resign and claim their huge pensions. They are a disgrace.
It's going to be a coalition between FF and FG. If you watched the debate it's sticking out like a sore thumb. Don't allow this. Time to rid the main parties and change. PLEASE, VOTE FOR CHANGE.
I am not party political, I trust none of them, but surely Sinn Féin has its greatest ever opportunity to offer change since forming our first government. Successive governments have enabled the banks to ruin a once proud nation, one of very few to have won their independence from the British empire and forge our own way as an independent state. But now there is an opportunity for us to follow Britain from the shark-infested waters of the EC, and make for the shores of self-determination with our former foes. Instead, we can live and let live, we can forge ahead with the power of forgiveness, and make a new future, a symbiotic partnership with Britain as our trade partners - a formidable economic force amidst a weakening EC. Give the people a voice. Give the people a party to turn to - for those that want out of the EC and the Eurozone. The road to recovery is not a mystical one- to re-issue the Punt, pay off our debts, rebuild our country and shed the bank's shackles from the nation's limbs. You cannot control and build a nation unless you control its currency. Economics 101. It's a simple message but I do not see it being spread anywhere. No one is offering that option of self-determination ... Ourselves alone, where is it? Instead of saying "We warned you about the Euro ...we told you so ..." put the words front and center in your manifesto, and let that manifesto be known - fill the rift in the national psyche with the words "Save Ireland. Bring back the Punt." We must take back our waters, not to be content with our 20% fish quotas - waters we could protect with Britain by our side - and build processing plants to process the fish we harvest from our own waters. How is it we are not rich from the bounty provided to us by nature herself? The 20% of fish we do take, is immediately packed in ice and shipped out of the country, no value added. Let people rally to the call, as all of these political parties that have sold us out to the banks fall to the wayside, one by one. Let Sinn Féin be the beacon for those who are lost and light the way forward for Ireland. They could take power in a landslide if they just put options on the table to govern ourselves in tandem with a healthy trade atmosphere alongside Britain. And if she can do it, then Hello Mary Lou! "It is well enough that people of the nation do not understand our banking and monetary system, for if they did, I believe there would be a revolution before tomorrow morning." -Henry Ford “If Americans ever allow banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation and then by deflation, the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children will wake up homeless” - Thomas Jefferson "Give me control of a nation's money and I care not who makes her laws." - Mayer Amschel Rothschild "I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. Already they have raised up a monied aristocracy that has set the government at defiance. The issuing power (of money) should be taken away from the banks and restored to the people to whom it properly belongs." - Thomas Jefferson
The responsibility for the drug gangs and the thuggery belongs at least in part to those who choose to criminalise drug use. Legalise drugs and cut the legs out from under the criminal gangs. Mary Lou McDonald should look at the success of legalisation in Portugal and stop trying to make recreational users feel guilty. Taxes from drugs can be used to provide therapy and support for addicts. Swopping heroin for methadone is absolutely ridiculous and is only maintaining the status quo.
The interviewer forcing politics about women is a bit annoying. Especially at the end when she asked if she could name someone from another party she would like to team up with.
Heard her lately describe FF & FG as the parties of priviledge, thats funny because as I grew up my parents were one FF and One FG and both were hard working factory employees who saved up to buy land and accululated a good bit of wealth. They started out with nothing and I often remember my mum having bread and marmalade for her lunch so we could have something a little better. Its funny because I dont feel that bread and marmalade should be considered the food of the priviledged. Maybe Mary Lou would like to see some of the hard won wealth of people in this country confiscated? Isnt her rhetoric similar to that used by certain individuals 2000 miles east of here about a 100 years ago? Also I notice the word Priviledge being used a lot on a continent 3000 miles west of here, only difference is that they put another word before it. How long before the way we look doesn't suit Mary Lou and we need to feel guilty about that too?
Wow, I was happy hearing about united Ireland and getting rid of carbon tax and then I heard: "From everyone according to his abilities, to everyone according to his needs"... FFS, I though this idea died in Europe with Soviet Union 30 years ago.
National Party all the way, the Irish comes should come first in their own country but that's not happening, and now we're being flooded by immigrants every year, the Irish will be a minority in their own country by 2050, the more that come in the less chance of a good future for your kids, IRELAND FOR THE IRISH.
Yes indeed. I'm not racist but it feels like there is a million non Nationals in the country. EU would prefer FG, still in power and FF. I'm fearful they'll end up in coalition. Hope I am wrong.
6EQJ5 WOW 1977 mate plz don’t start of with ur not a wacisss. Nobody cares anymore that word means fook all. People are pissed of with it full stop 🛑 It’s not wacisss to care for ur country. Thanks 🙏🏻
ON CLIMATE CHANGE POINT ABOUT AUSTRALIA. 200 people were arrested for starting the fires. yes it was dryer than usual and rather hot being summer time + the eucalyptus tree is EXTREMELY flammable making the situation much worse. But they were not started because of ''climate change''.
@@lisaw150 no lisa they got out of control due to strong winds.i urge you to watch the australian news coverage where they specifically point out the wind as the leading factor in how the fires covered such a large area.
United Ireland is the way to go! This kind of strong leader that Ireland desperately needs! Put welfare of all Irish people before dirty politics and profits.
@Anois Éire correct me if iam wrong polling day as far as I'm aware no canvassing is allowed sinn fein where doing just that driving around in a car with loud speakers vote sinn fein they drove of when I challenged them about it .
JayDon Saoirse na hÉireann would you like to show us exactly where Islam allows sex with infants. Have you ever met or know a Muslim? You should educate yourself before you say such ridiculous things. In Ireland years ago girls married at 13 and 14 but times have changed.
@JayDon Saoirse na hÉireann I agee with U on this matter say atheist protestant I live In Birmingham I do know some Muslims like tariq yes he got arranged marriage with kid and yet he got Jane Fr Worcester also with other baby girl yet I ask him if I have affair with Yr wife no no no double standards
Sin Féin have a young and liberal voting base despite not having any green energy policy, and being Eurosceptics, two things that are VERY unpopular in Ireland. How people reconcile these factors, I have no idea. The mental gymnastics involved is baffling
A simple question for Mary Lou as leader of the Sinn Fein party which represented, as the political wing of the Irish Republican Army, why, under yours and Gerry's leadership has Sinn Fein sold out on what my family fought and died for in now supporting the EU? Is money in any way involved and might you and others ensure access to your bank accounts as well as the bank accounts of your close family?
Gerry Adams hasn't been apart of Sinn Fein since 2018. You are going back to the troubles. You do know that Fianna Fail and Fine Gael had links with the IRA as well. Fianna Fail in the troubles supplied the IRA with Arms. Fine Gael origins the blueshirts: Fine Gael-promised that “if a dictatorship is necessary for the Irish people we are going to have one. It will be better than the so-called democratic Government we have, run by foreigners and Jews.” So you which party you voting for lad they all originally were in or were associated with the IRA. And Fine Gael have the worst origins. So your argument is a shit one
IrishPride 29 You are, of course, entitled to your own opinion and still, per Bunreacht na hEireann to express it, so long as we keep the new Sinn Fein et. al. out of government, I have direct experience of government in the Free State and the one thing I can assure you is, they are all corrupt, finally, on Gerry, is he presently, pending the eighth of February, sitting as the Independent Sinn Fein Teachta Dala for Louth?
@@macaedha And you are entitled to yours but if the Free state is your opinion let me remind you that this generation is not the same generation of Sinn Fein and have no ties to the IRA. Not only was that a smear campaign by FF FG but the IRA are no longer active neither are the UVF. As I said Gerry Adams has left Sinn Fein, retired. He did this in 2018. I'm not telling you who to vote for but you should take examine the pros and cons of the top 3 parties before you make a decision. This is not for us, this is for the next generation. As your vote decides for the next generation and current generation seeking homes, trapped In their parents at age 30. Clearly you haven't thought about it.
IrishPride 29 I thankfully own my own home, as does my Daughter however, and I did once vote for Sinn Fein, until I realised they ad abandoned everything the women and men who had fought and died for the Republic had been abandoned by the political liars of the political wing. As before, will Mary Lou show the bank accounts of her close family members to satisfy the electorate how little influence external actors have over her party policy?
Me and my family always voted 🗳 for SF. But not no more they sold out they played the Irish ☘️ people. They care not for Irish ☘️ people anymore vote 🗳 National party.
@@grlfcgombeenhunter2897 well I support people having a better life. The Irish went all over the world for that reason I see Ur a Liverpool fan people used to say Liverpool was the capital of Ireland so many Irish in a English city
john Tracy yep 👍 that’s right. But plz don’t compare what the Irish ☘️ went thru to this bollox. It’s chalk and cheese. It makes me sad ☹️ that Irish ☘️ people keep bringing this stupid argument up. We got sprayed getting of them coffin ⚰️ ship 🚢. And never got handed fook all. Wake up man.
@@grlfcgombeenhunter2897 My oin was not about climate change but the way she defended the poor, who are always the one's to suffer when governments decide to take action!
And then there is the Northern Bank.... Maybe they should have formed a cosy relationship with FF or FG as "protection". It worked for the "Irish" Independent for years.
Wonderful to see such a capable woman doing so well. This gives me hope for the future of Ireland and I'm over 65. My mother who died in her 90's knew Mary Lou coud do it when it comes to making our country more equitabe.
All commercial fishing and factory fishing ships need to be revolutionized. Produce more work for the smaller fishermen. They're unable to access the fish 🐟because of commercial greed.
Heard her the other day saying that the recent coalition in FF and FG in Ireland is a coming together of the parties of priviledge. How long before she includes the word 'White' in that assertion?
i am not much of a politician but i dont see anything wrong with a woman being a patriot, she seem confident in her speech. clamouring for unification is not a crime.she is just being a frontline patriot.
JayDon Saoirse na hÉireann Mary Lou and Sinn Fein want a points system same as Finland and Australia since 2019, people who say their mass migrations are not informed enough . Also in the 2011 election for Ireland to remain or leave EU Sinn Fein and Mary Lou were pro Irexit. We’re in excellent hands with Sinn Fein if your Irish and /or in Ireland and Sinn Fein for us 100% your not pro Irish or you don’t have enough knowledge about Sinn Fein if you don’t understand their a great political party. Thank God fffg and labor gone their incompetent political parties for decades. Sinn Fein Thank God are a start to being for Irish people not tyranny for us
@JayDon Saoirse na hÉireann You're saying it's bad that radical Islam and war have destroyed so many lives, but with closed borders the families who want to escape the warzone can't seek refuge in Ireland. You either have sympathy for those affected by this issue or you don't.
@JayDon Saoirse na hÉireann You brought it up in your long comment, you seem to think anyone of the Islamic faith entering the country is going to end up with Sharia law in Ireland, even though the countries you mentioned don't even have Sharia law.
Whomever dose get in power and try to run this country and dont even get me started with the drugs issue stasitcly it's been shown that legalisation of certain drugs has reduced crime rates in certain areas brings in higher taxes takes money from the gangs there should be a reform on the policing that tackles the issue of the gangs give better powers to take them down from the higher archie and bring them to a stop or force them to operate in a different country . If you disagree I'd like to hear your reasoning behind it . Rent freeze is not going to help anyone the rents are ridiculously high already like were back in the Celtic tiger that time has past we need more homes more affordable housing and our healthcare system needs a Rehaul and serious revisions my family is 10 euro over the limit for medical cards so 10 euro makes it easy I'm sure there are meny others in similar positions in the country
So true people always say cannabis is a gate way drug but I don’t know anyone who wakes up and thinks I’d love to be a heroin addict most people who smoked weed illegally will be asked if they want cocaine or other drugs off there dealer if it’s legal that won’t happen.
Taxes are to high fuel to expensive usc income tax is punish for work, build a house on your own nearly not possible to many permits....wil the new government change any of it? NO 👎🏿
Sinn-Fein are traitors. The British out Open up the Borders Africans ISIS AND EVERYONE ELSE IN .. . VOTE ACI /NATIONAL PARTY IRISH FREEDOM PARTY PARTY .
It would be refreshing to hear a real debate on feminism and it's New York origins. The difference between a feminist and the post structural feminist and a defence for women whom are happy being women are fortunate to live in society whom value the mother and housewife and are not in rebellion of their womanhood....Lisa Smith being a tragic example of the pitfalls of not knowing the difference....Also why boys are being overlooked in society... everything is girls health, girls education girls wellbeing...it seems the initiation into manhood all boys must undergo is neglected in favour of a one child raising suits all... feminists should be less critical of patrinality as it does not apply to them.... applying Mariology to boys produces effeminate men dutyful to their mother icon yet lost in response to their manhood...Nancy Pelosoi being a classical example of denial.
The only downside to reunification will be the Loyalist insurgency it'll be brief but it will cost many lives and will end with UN peacekeepers on our streets
@Soda King There's still gonna be a million Unionists/Loyalists on the island though and equal rights means they're still gonna want to have bonfires and orange order marches but as far as violence goes there will be an insurgency but it'll be put down very quickly
@@irishgreen4634 Loads of them live in Donegal etc already you fool. What are they going to do? Sure most of them along the border have already woken up to the fact that the Tories etc couldn't care less about them. Do you even live in the north. Or have any idea about what it`s really like here ?
