To celebrate the release of the season's most feel-good movie "Saving Mr Banks", fans gathered at the spot where "Mary Poppins" first opened almost 50 years ago in London's Leicester Square, for an rousing rendition of "Lets Go Fly A Kite"
Two-time Academy Award®--winner Emma Thompson and fellow double Oscar®-winner Tom Hanks star Disney's "Saving Mr. Banks," inspired by the extraordinary, untold story of how Disney's classic "Mary Poppins" made it to the screen-and the testy relationship between Walt Disney and author P.L. Travers that almost derailed it.
Saving Mr Banks is showing in UK Cinemas Now
Disney's Mary Poppins 50th Anniversary Edition is on DVD and Blu-ray now.

I was born in 1987 and grew up watching Mary Poppins on VHS, but it wasn't until many years later, looking up the history of the film before Saving Mr. Banks was released, that I read about the real meaning of the song. The kite represents the family throughout the movie--a bit battered and torn in the beginning, not seen as very important by Mr. Banks, but he is the one who helps mend it back together in the end. And since then, I cry every time I hear this song. Wonderful!

actually i found out well it appeared she were u thinking he the PL is a stage name the author of the books uses or is shedding manly tear u being sarcastic and she actually rather enjoyed this song at least and before it appeared in the movie, yes i saw saving mr banks very good movie

The Sherman Brothers wrote many songs in their illustrious careers, but I don't think any have as much meaning, and ability to pull at the heartstrings as this one... no matter how many times you hear it, it gets to you, the tears well up, the foot taps.along, and it just brightens up your day... Name me one other song that can do that?

Actually the cool thing about this, is this many people actually (either) grew up on Mary Poppins or knew the songs through the years. When you hear something from your childhood, by some strange miracle, all the lyrics seem to return to your brain 20 years later :)

I was 7 years old in 1965 when I first saw "Mary Poppins". I watched "Saving Mr. Banks" and had NO IDEA how the amount of work "NEEDED" to make the book into a "FANTASY "film and since I also speak Spanish( Latin American/Mex. version), French, Italian, Portuguese, German, some Dutch and a bit of the Scandinavian languages(Norwegian, Icelandic[which is just 8th century Norwegian], Swedish and a smattering of Danish, I've watched "Mary Poppins" in the forementioned languages and if one can sing-a-long with "Supercalifrajalisticexplialidocious", one can speak the language the song is in.IMO. :)

Today, we'll watch "Saving Mr. Banks" later today. And we realized, we both hadn't seen the movie "Mary Poppins" yet. We had to get it on Netflix. I always thought the last chorus line should have been - Up through the atmosphere, up now the clouds have cleared, let's go, fly... fly a kite. The clouds clearing suggesting new beginnings.

I have seen two other videos on you tube here with the same performance and I got to say it is interesting to see three different videos with the same exact performance all at a different angle.
