'Mary Poppins Returns': Behind the scenes of how new film was made 

For someone who went straight to the books and did not draw inspiration from Julie Andrew's character, I think she captured Mary Poppins PERFECTLY. I agree with what she said....I did not know I needed Mary Poppins again until I saw her in this movie. But I am glad she's back.

The fact that Emily went straight to the original books instead of the film PL Travers detested means the movie is in great hands.

I have to say, I wasn’t sure about a Mary Poppins sequel at first but from what I can see, they treated this film as well as the original with the upmost respect. If anyone can be this generation’s Mary Poppins, it’s definitely Emily Blunt.

I entered the movie theater as an adult and left the theater as a child. LOVED IT! Bravo Emily, Bravo Lin and Bravo tho the cast and director. A movie truly to be remembered. Oscar contenders for Best Movie Best Actress Emily and Lin for best actor

At 5:11 was the sweetest thing I’ve ever heard. My heart. ☂️❤️

People are ALWAYS going to be protective over an original and timeless classic. However, this isn’t a remake. It’s a sequel...an entirely new script written how many years later? Times are completely different now. However, the people who worked on this film? Love and respect the original. These are all die hard fans of the original film and have done their absolute best to conduct themselves in a way that adds to the franchise, not diminishes it. They’re good people and extraordinarily talented. Why does it matter if people are only here for Lin or Emily or the legacy? What matters is that the film was handled with extreme love and care and it absolutely shows. It wasn’t just thrown together in an attempt to destroy the legacy. And with Dick Van Dyke eagerly wanting to be involved as well as Ms Andrews declining to be a part of it because she didn’t want to take away from Emily’s spotlight just truly shows that even the originals have given their stamp of approval. So why waste time and negative energy on “oh well Mary would never do that or this will never live up to the original” and so on? It’s not meant to. It’s a new chapter in Mary’s story and it should be embraced as such.

I have full faith in Emily Blunt 100%.

Mary Poppins Returns is a fabulous movie and Blunt is amazing. Took me back to my childhood ... loved every minute of the movie!

What Emily said about someone not knowing how much he/she needed Mary Poppins before she came out of the cloud literally happens to me. I didn’t know I needed her that much. Tbrh that was one of the earliest moments of overwhelming feeling I get while watching, it made tear up in some kind of way. It’s a complete joy to have her returning and she makes me fall in love with her in a thousand new ways I never knew existed. And what Lin said blew me away equally because of how true it is; in 2,5 hours, I was turned into a child again. And a part of that child lingers in me now after I left the theater. I just hope I don’t forget:)

The original Jane from 1964, Karen Dotrice, is the one who asks for directions from the new Jane on the street on Cherry Lane. She goes away saying: "Many thanks, sincerely." Which is part of the lyrics of the advertisement for a nanny that she and Michael sing to their parents in the original.

I loved the first movie. Played it gray when I had it on tape and DVD. Super excited for this movie! I am excited to see Emilie in her full glory and Lin being in there and Dick van Dyke!

I am only 7 years old when mary poppins was played on tv ... on disney channel(here in the philippines) and i swear mary poppins has a spcieal place in my heart... this is the one i always watched and makes me feel happy when i'm sad😁

Just seen the new Mary Poppins film and it was excellent, a sheer joy to watch. You just feel that nothing can go wrong in Mary's world. You can tell that this film was made with love and care. Music and dance numbers are brilliant.

Finally just saw this in a theater tonight and I liked it! Wonderful film!

Unbelievably enough I cried thru the entire movie. I didn't know what it will do to me. And also didn't realize how much the first Mary Poppins impacted me indeed

Disney needs to make more movies like this....the old school way with the animated characters interacting with the live actors and very minimal CGI. And the storylines and acting true to the originals.

Emily and lin were the only reason why I watched mary poppins 1 and now 2 in the first place. And although emily blunt is seriously my obsession I just love how smug julie andrews mary poppins is. Mary poppins returns is a bit "do whatever you want" type. Just my thoughts. I still smiled all throughout the movie. I'm so glad I watched it💕

The problem with this movie is that the audience is expecting the old songs to come back. Not like little tunes or lines from the original, but full blown songs. It's like the audience wants a remake, and not a sequel. I saw the movie, and it was amazing. Words can't describe it. You just have to go see it, but if you DO go see it, you need to go in with the mindset of, "okay, this is a SEQUEL to the original movie, and not a remake, so Step in Time, Feed the Birds, Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, etc... aren't in this. New songs, new cast, somewhat similar premise, but other than that it is a COMPLETELY different movie."

Booked my ticket! Mary Poppins was and still is one of my favourite movies to date. Julie Andrews is my idol and honestly couldn’t think of anyone else to take over the role but I think Emily Blunt is going to do an amazing job! Can’t wait😂
