I was trying to see if I could back this up in a witty way, but the minister at the time was “Venusia Crickerly,” and I cannot find any information on her, so I don’t know if she was qualified or not
She had been singing professionally for quite some time before this point, her parents were musicians and she discovered her astonishing vocal abilities as a child, so that’s why it sounds so good. She possessed the talent, and worked it into the heavens.
I think Julie Andrews and the songwriters are the two main reasons for the success of this film. That voice and her poise and diction. Amazing! The story is just a platform for the music.
Also Walt Disney himself was the producer, just 2 years before he died. Whatever he did was a success and this film was no exception. Also the cast was obviously amazing and funny. The perfect combination...
This movie is based on taking a "spoonful of sugar" and then going on a magical adventure full of magic and a flying umbrella, there's no way that was a spoonful of sugar

Mary Poppins was the first movie I saw at the theater. 1965, I was 5. It was so magical. The animatronic robin was wonderful. I'm 60 now and I've turned my very young grandson on to it. He doesn't enjoy as I did. But he didn't have the theater experience I had. A grand movie theater with frescoes and the outside ticket booth. It was the Drake Theater in Oil City Pa.
🎶If there's a task that must be done🎶 🎶don't turn your tail and run🎶 🎶don't pout🎶 🎶don't sob🎶 🎶just do a half-assed job🎶 If you 🎶cut every corner it is really not so bad🎶 🎶everybody does it, even mom and dad🎶 🎶if nobody sees it, then nobody gets mad🎶 🎶🇺🇲It's the American Way!🇺🇲🎶
Whats crazy as a child, i thought of Mary Poppins as this symbol of purity. Now it appears as pure -witchcraft. The 1960s sitcom Bewitched was probably inspired by this...
Yes, I’m born in 82 and feel the same! I have a daughter (now 14) who I would watch this with 🩷 if she ever has kids I hope she shares it with them, too!
People express amazement at how extraordinary Julie’s performance was despite her relative youth and MP being her first motion picture, but it’s easy to forget that by this point at age 28, she was already an old pro, having performed just about every type of musical stage act, from revues to vaudeville to pantomime to Broadway and the West End over the preceding 20 years. An extraordinary breadth of experience for someone that young and a well-honed sense of discipline and professionalism. The consummate performer and practically perfect casting in every way.
There’s a great audio clip of the Sherman brothers explaining how they were inspired to write it from a personal anecdotes involving their kids. It’s one of the tracks on the Mary Poppins original album (just them talking about their songwriting process). Really cool.
did you even watch the movie? emily blunt was a1 as mary poppins! take off your nostalgia glasses and appreciate the wonder disney gave us this christmas! edit// may the force be NOT with you!
I agree with Tonya. I prefer the classic Mary Poppins. I would love to have a mom like Julie Andrews’ Mary Poppins version ! Emily Blunt...Not so much Sorry not everyone is going to agree with you.
For some reason as a kid I was never interested in either but now that I'm a mom, me (37) and my daughter (6) are beyond obsessed with Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music. Shoot even my 3-year-old son absolutely LOVES them both. The other day he randomly said "rosy cheeks and everything" and it melted my heart lol
Mary Poppins is such a beautiful character. I have rewatched the movie a thousand times. And I'm am only eleven! there is also a movie called "Saving Mr. Banks" it explains a lot in the film. I just love this song !!!!!
Pizza_Nerd _101 Its impossible to beat the original in most cases- especially nostalgic movies such as this one. You'd comment this no matter how good Mary Poppins returns was
A spoonful of Liquor Helps depression go down Helps depression go down Depression goes down. Just a spoonful of Liquor Makes the frouwn turn around. In the most freightful way!
Always love Mary Poppins film movie and soundtrack songs. All ages. Need put on steelbox Collection. Dvd and blueray DVD and 4 K dvd .and soundtrack also. Thank You 😊
Lot of people don't find the message in here: the point is do everything with passion. You clean the house? Put on some music and have a full concert lol
My brother and I used to wait for the last part of the song where the stuff goes crazy, and then run around the room as fast and as crazy as we could until the end of it. It was the best music buildup ever!
Great, and like everyone knows there has been countless versions of actresses playing and singing the well known songs, but there is only one true Mary Poppins. That right Julie Andrews. When you have quite finished!
