This is indeed Mary Saxton aka Mary Rush her married name. I was her friend and also sang on many sessions including the backgrounds on this song. It was recorded in Edmonton at Damon Studios thanks to Garry McDonall who was so supportive of talent without money or ability to get heard by the public. Mary now lives in BC where she worked as a professional singer in the studio for decades. She is a Christian and sings for the Lord Jesus now. I'd love to hear her new songs.
I too heard this on Winnipeg station 630 CKRC..Came out in June 77..played all summer..was on BUDDAH records...have seen it on compilation ''THE BUDDAH BOX'' boxed set...had no idea she was from Edmonton..I had the 45..I wonder if Billy really made a lady out of her under that tree?
@rolchan I know the video is nothing to look at.... I uploaded for the song. It was a local hit when I was a teenager, and the singer is from my hometown. I've just always loved it, but don't expect that everyone will. I wasn't offended though. Glad you like some of my other videos. My taste is varied. :)))
@Doyle4303 Mary Saxton was the original singer of this song. You're right, it was released in the late 70's. Mary Saxton is from Edmonton Alberta. I'll dig out my LP and see if I can find any more info about the song. :D
+Elizabeth Golis There was another singer and her name was Nana McLean!!I keep looking for her version on RU-vid to no avail! I have been checking for years! The Mary Saxton version is good but the Nana McLean was even better!!
