I didn't know that they used an instrumental version of "Love Is All Around" for syndication. I always thought that all the episodes of MTM in syndication used the vocal version by Sonny Curtis all the way through.
Ah.... the syndicated print with the opening credits shortened from 60 seconds to 30 seconds, to allow local stations to pad in an additional commerical.
I believe during the original network run on CBS, the later seasons also occasionally used a shortened instrumental version of the opening theme song. Then it was used heavily in syndication, especially during the early syndication runs.
If there is one rare variation of the MTM logo, it's the one with the lion's roar we hear at the end of The Bob Newhart Show, on the season 3 premiere episode titled "Big Brother is Watching." Not surprising when you consider the origin of the MTM logo. I am hoping you will find this particular episode on 16mm, with the Viacom logo included after it.
The opening shows Mary's white 1970 Mustang; the close shows her washing her dark green 1973 Mustang! No doubt syndication, since it's not unusual that syndication opens and closes often are adapted from the best of all the seasons (The syndicated open for "Hazel" used most of the 1962-63 open but the tail end of the 1965-66 open and the 1965-66 theme music)
This show was syndicated by two networks as far as I know: CBS in the US (credited to Viacom) and Television South in the UK (I believe MTM was bought out by TVS in the early 90's).
Read in an old Broadcasting issue from 1977 that Spelling-Goldberg sued Worldvision for $25 million over numerous issues; Viacom wound up getting the syndication rights instead.

Hot sheet: _The Honeymooners_ (1955-1956) _Perry Mason_ (1957-1966) _Have Gun - Will Travel_ (1957-1963) _Rawhide (TV series)_ (1959-1965) _The Twilight Zone (1959 TV series)_ (1959-1964) _The Andy Griffith Show_ (1960-1968) _Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C._ (1964-1969) _The Wild, Wild West_ (1965-1969) _Family Affair_ (1966-1971) _Hawaii Five-O (1968 TV series)_ (1968-1980)
+ClassicTVMan1981X All are on my list, and a Technicolor-like print of “Hogan’s Heroes” will arrive soon. Not yet known if it’ll have the BCP logo or not.
WILD WILD WEST was syndicated by Viacom??? I don't remember the reruns having their logos on it..... I only vaguely remember the show anyway.... I much more remember the 1999 Warner Brothers movie because it was advertised to HELL and back!!!!!
@@CreesNostalgiaHut I do remember it from TNT reruns, but you were likely watching the series on MeTV, which had the Viacom logos replaced by CBS Television Distribution.
I'm still hoping one of these days you might come across a few 16mm prints of the following Paramount Television shows: _The Lucy Show_ (1962-1968; first syndicated in 1972) -- NOTE: the black and white seasons (even though season 2 was first to be filmed in color) will have a silent version of the late 1968 Paramount Television "Split Rectangle" logo on a few episodes. _Star Trek (The Original Series)_ (1966-1969; first syndicated in 1969) _Mission: Impossible (1966 TV series)_ (1966-1973; first syndicated in 1973) _Mannix_ (1967-1975; as this series was first syndicated on a limited basis in 1979 and then widely in 1980, very few 16mm prints will exist, and also, neither the first nor the last seasons were included in the early syndication package, nor were 16 season 7 episodes) _The Brady Bunch_ (1969-1974; first syndicated in 1975) _The Odd Couple (1970 TV series)_ (1970-1975; first syndicated in 1976) _Happy Days_ (1974-1984; first syndicated in 1979) -- NOTE: not on 16mm after episode 130 from the 1978-79 season; the 16mm prints will open with the _Happy Days Again_ title seen from 1979-1984. _Laverne & Shirley_ (1976-1983; first syndicated in 1982) ... maybe!
ClassicTVMan1981X Don't forget Laverne & Shirley (1976-1983, first syndicated 1981), The Love Boat (1977-1987, first syndicated in 1982 and others just to name a few.
We'd have to see if L&S actually does exist on 16mm to find out for sure! I think _Mork & Mindy_ (1978-1982) and _Taxi_ (1978-1983) were likely exclusively available, for syndication, on videotape! Those shows were first syndicated starting, respectively, in 1982 and 1983.
