All of the cast members portrayed in this song (and pic) have passed away. Betty White was the last to go, just weeks before she would have turned 100.
I remember being at my grandparents house during the summer in the mountains of NC watching this. The song will always remind me of such a nice time. Happy but missing home.
Aaaw. This song brings back so many childhood memories, when my grandparents were watching the "Mary Tyler Moore" while we were in bed getting ready for school the next morning. Tears, sniffles. So beautiful.
So sorry to hear the passing away of Mary Tyler Moore. I cried when I replayed this song upon Mary's death. You see, this song was given by me about 6 years to my girlfriend, Jane. She was out of work for quite a long period and was just beginning to look for work. But she was not a confident person. When I heard the lyrics to this song, the first person who I thought of was Jane. I thought this song could uplift her. She had a great personality and got along with my male friends unbelievably. (just like the song). I must have played this song each day with Jane. Unfortunately Jane passed away unexpectedly this past August, 2016. I will always miss her. Again, the lyrics to this song is the greatest.
Oh my!! I am older than I thought! I watched this show as a kid & someone posted that this show was from the 30's & 40's. :) the 70's was the best time to be a kid!!!
Indeed. This song makes me wanna tear up, reminds me of my mother, she was the same age as Mary at the time and always watched this show, dreaming of what she might be doing if she didn't have kids.
Jason Raczkowski, I liked playing Little League sports, football was my favorite, baseball was fun too, my High School was all Boys, I shouldn't complain my dad was football coach so it was free
Rest in comforting peace, Mary Tyler Moore and Valerie Harper. Thank you both for wonderful smiles, laughs, and memories. Those were better days for many of us.
And let's not forget Georgia Engel either. After all, she too passed away this year, about four and a half months before Valerie Harper did. Miss Harper had been fighting cancer for ten whole years, until she succumbed to the disease on Aug. 30, after turning 80 a week before. Miss Engel passed away suddenly from unknown causes on April 12, at the age of 70. Both women will always be remembered as Mary Richard's good friends and faithful sidekicks on her show. May you rest in peace, both Georgia and Valerie.
"A little song,a little dance,a little seltzer down your pants". Rest in Peace Mare, and thank you for making life on this crazy planet a lot more bearable.
Of all the film and television celebrities whose passings occurred within the year of 2017, certainly none has touched our hearts more than the mighty Mary Tyler Moore. She was known as "America's Sweetheart" in the 1960s and 70s. She gave us countless hours of great entertainment, on both TV and in the movies. She had done so much for the world of show business and beyond that field. She founded a television empire that produced many popular TV shows in the 1970s and 80s. She inspired millions of people around the world to go out and fulfill their dreams. She was a dedicated and tireless crusader of worthy causes such as diabetes research and animal rights and protection. There wasn't another one like her, and most likely never will be. .Her memory and legacy will live on for countless generations to come. Thank you Mary, for being a friend, champion and inspiration to all of us. May you rest in peace.
I had a crush on Mary ever since I can remember and still do. MTM is one of the very few shows that was so great, time never touched it. I was lucky enough to catch the final episode a week ago, and still cried like a baby saying goodbye. Seeing Mary reruns is like getting a hug from an old friend. Thank you Mary.
To Mary Tyler Moore - It's been almost two and a half years now since you passed away on Jan. 25, 2017. Your friend and co-star from "The Dick Van Dyke Show", Rose Marie, had also left for Heaven to be with you on December 28 of that year. She was 94 years old. Quite a number of people who guest starred on your show passed away the following year, in 2018. Jerry Van Dyke, Nanette Fabray, David Ogden Stiers, Bradford Dillman, Joseph Campanella, and that great master of physical slapstick comedy, the mighty Penny Marshall. Miss Marshall appeared on your show three times before starring in her own program, "Laverne and Shirley". She left here to join you on December, 17, of that year, at the age of 75. I just couldn't believe it when I saw the news of her passing on my computer. You and Penny Marshall were two of the most inspiring, most influential women in show business during the late 20th century. I had just received word recently that your good friend and faithful sidekick from your show, Georgia Engel, had just come to be reunited with you in Heaven on Friday, the 12th of last month. I didn't expect Miss Engel to go first after you did, since she was the youngest of the six remaining cast members from your series. She seemed to be doing all right, so the news of her passing came as quite an unpleasant surprise to me. I just couldn't believe it when I heard she passed away also. All three of you women were great dancers, actresses, and comediennes. I'm sure you're all up there turning Heaven on with your smiles, making the angels laugh and dancing before them. May your stars shine bright in Heaven for all eternity. We will all miss you. May you all rest in peace.
I can remember watching her as a kid. That smile was I believe my first crush as a kid. Loved me some Mary Tyler Moore...so sad Rest In Peace. because now heaven can enjoy that smile
This show and the song still makes me smile now...Loved this show !!!!!! Help me thru my very poor childhood and gave me hope at a very young age of 7 to 12... :)
So sad. I loved watching her in everything she did...but that song brings tears to my eyes. I used to sing it all the time. Silly maybe, but hey, it made me feel like I was gonna be alright, put a pep in my step. She was an awesome lady! RIP Mary!
It seems I'm not the only one who came here to listen to this song in honor of Mary. She will definitely be missed. Thank you Mary for all the joy you've brought to us over the years. We love you.
Thank you Mary Tyler Moore, for all the countless hours of great entertainment which you have given us over the years. Your work on TV and in the movies, and the characters you helped to create in them, as well as your research on stern cell diabetes, and your crusade for animal rights and protection, will live on forever. There wasn't another one like you, and there most likely never will be. You turned the world on with your smile, and now you're doing the same thing to Heaven. I'm sure you're up there making the angels laugh and dancing before them. We will all miss you. May you rest in peace.
The first theme song was great too. "How will you make it on your own. This world is awfully big, and girl this time you're all alone. But it's time you started living, it's time you let someone else do some giving. Love is all around, don't need to fake it. You can never tell, why don't you take it. You might just make it after all".
Mary Tyler Moore was like a Timex watch. With her diabetes and health problems she took a terrible licking, but her memory and legacy keeps right on ticking. And it will keep on ticking forever. May she rest in peace.
I watched the Mary Tyler Moore show the week after she died, because I read an article about her. I was surprised how well it held up. She was a charming lovable adult woman. The theme song fits it perfectly and is also inspirational in a strangely comforting way.
So true Dale....I just cried over hearing this news. Such a role model, trend setter, and inspiration for many young girls as they entered into adulthood. Thank you Mary.....You will never be forgotten.
I loved this show!! I used to watch it years later after it debuted with my sister! All the characters on the show were so funny! Great show! I loved MTM!! RIP!! xo
Seeing the Minnesota Vikings playing so well reminds me of the days this show was on CBS. I watched a few episodes but it was very funny. Great cast. I hope z smith from my hometown in Alabama and Vikings can lift everyone like Mary Tyler Moore by winning a super bowl this year. Vikings were in the super bowl 3 times during this shows duration
