Over a year-and-a-half after Marylanders voted to legalize marijuana, Governor Wes Moore pardoned just over 175,000 convictions, most of which for misdemeanor simple possession, according to his office.
Surrounded by a cheering crowd, Moore on Monday signed the largest effort by a state governor towards further decriminalizing the drug. The move signaled a shift in public perception decades since the Nixon presidency, removing what has been a long-lasting impact for those punished on possession and paraphernalia charges alone.
