4:40 - above 5th dan there are no more technical exams, only the grades for the impact on promoting the art and developing the organizations. So everything above 5th rank are just honorable titles.

How long had Kimura been a smoker? I heard back in the day that some within Tokyo PD were smokers as well, and yet they trained Judo regularly. I cannot imagine doing that…

Kimura is a legendary judoka. Karate Oyama is a liar and a fake. Oyama is not Japanese, he is Korean. Oyama's anecdotes from his youth are full of lies and exaggerations, and he has an extremely bad reputation in Japan. Please stop comparing Kimura and Oyama!

IDK I don't watch much wrestling but I saw a RR match and the announcer kept talking about her Judo background. That is a bunch of free advertising for Judo and it would inspire tons of young girls to try Judo. I think it's a net benefit.

Thats already proven,it all depends on how you train, you must train like mma to be effective in a duel fight,its not self defense.

little bit different. it is 「木村の前に木村なく、木村の後に木村なし」"No Kimura before Kimura, no Kimura after Kimura", which means Kimura is the unique/special Judoka.

Hi Chadi! I have a question regarding if it is appriorpiate for an judoka who is a new beginner to preform solo uchikomi drills to achieve effectivness in randori and real life. I have the 3 kyu. Do you have other advice how I can effectivly be good at randori?

i can answer this: solo uchikomi practice on its own will not give you effectiveness in randori or real life. Do not fool yourself, your body needs to learn how to perform the techniques on a resisting opponent and no amount of footwork and shadow drills will give you that on their own. But it can be a very helpful and insightful practice as part of a healthy judo regimen.

Uchikomi is for rehearsing technique like shadowboxing so great for a beginner or warm up for advanced but but cannot build timing and anticipation without randori.There is moving uchikomi which uses timing more.
