Oh hey, the 9th inning (vs. Mexico) of him getting the walk was not worth to be included!?😢 I was impressed how well he observed under such pressure, knowing Murakami, the next batter, has not been at his best. But he trusted him and as he walked, he turned, made eye contact with him and pointing at him, gesturing, “it’s on you, and you’ll do it” and that was so good🥹🥹🥹

No, It was EVERYONE ON THE BENCH, not Murakami, who Yoshida pointed to and inspired with his feelings, "I believe in you guys." (Murakami said he was looking at papers at the time and didn't see Yoshida.)

The Boston Red Sox did their due diligence. Yoshida is a patient hitter who doesn't strike out often. He walks often and gets on base. He can hit for power and drive in runs. He can execute situational hitting no problem. Although this guy doesn't have strong throwing arm, nor does he have blazing speech on base path, the Boston fans will be very happy that he plays for them in Boston.

I'm from Japan and would like to share Yoshida's story for this WBC. Kuriyama, the manager, was not going to select Yoshida to be on Team Japan out of respect for the Boston Redsox signing him to a big contract. When Yoshida heard about this, he personally had to beg Kuriyama to select him. Not sure about the kind of conversation Yoshida had to have with the Redsox but obviously they gave him their blessing. So on behalf of the Japanese fans, we'd like to thank the Redsox for allowing Yoshida to play!!

To think that Akiyama didn't play well and Tsutsugo has been sufferingin in MLB and even Ohtani suffered in games before his first season opening game, Yoshida''s decision to joing the national team was amazing,. it was understandable, if he had chosen not to participate this time to prepare for his first regular season in MLB. I think Yoshida was great (and may be a future MLB hall of famer), but Ohtani had better avg, OBP, OPS, and an ERA under 2. Shohei's stats were just overwhelmingly good. I think there is no complaint with the MVP going either way. More clutch on one side, or better over-all stats on the other side.

His stats playing for Orix over the last 5 or 6 years are pretty insane. I’m not expecting him to LITERALLY be like a Japanese Juan Soto the way he has been in that league, but this certainly shows promise! One thing I find slightly concerning is how long his swing is - though that isn’t necessarily limiting. His swing actually reminds me a lot of JD Drew’s, a vastly underrated player whom I loved watching play for Boston.
