The older I get the more convinced I am that bad judgment is often as much a failure of imagination as a failure to gather information.. Masha Gessen is blessed with intellect, imagination and curiosity, all of which combine to make her a formidable harbinger of the future.
"Democracy," as Winston Churchill said so very wisely, "is the WORST form of governance... EXCEPT when compared to all other forms of government." Yes, Democracy is paradoxical: It allows bad, evil , and ill-guided majorities to rule decent, good and caring minorities (and I mean numerically) because Democracy is based on a majoritarian rule which -- as we now learned to our chagrin -- reflects strictly numbers rather than values, much less, good values. Masha Gessen is a brilliant speaker & thinker, but what she says, albeit true, is very scary to think of. And yet, we SHOULD!
I found her via the Putin files and listening to her talks is the only way I feel better about what's happening now. That list is worth writing on a sticky note and keeping it on my desk like a compass... Can she please explain this to like every anchor on MSNBC? It's the 24 hr conspiracy machine now. The shit in plain view is enough!
Politics will always express the Morality and the Motivations of the whole! Not looking at the harm one causes in society (in part or in whole) does not remove the individual responsibility. Especially when a whole planet is affected by a particular group that has been zombified by its lowest instincts and abused into the darkness of its arrogant Ignorance. I am not supporting punishing that group for it has acted unconsciously. Still, I sure feel the urgency to rapidly elevate this group's collective consciousness for the better good of all!
