They did that in the original skits back in the early 80s. There was "Fee Dimes a Maybe" ("Three Times a Lady") and the funniest was when he tried to sing ""Bette Davis Eyes" and it was so bad that in the caption they just put question marks.

I’m obviously very biased but that’s the best SNL in many years! Eddie brought back his old characters and MFn owned it! Hilarious! And the Christmas family sketch was even better! I think they should’ve unleashed Gumby way more on Weekend Update but I get there’s only so much time. Eddie Murphy came back and dominated! Awesome show! He was the man that saved the show back in the day and 30 plus years later he returned and showed that he is obviously way more talented than anything on that show! I’m just sad that Charlie Murphy wasn’t there to fuck it up!lol

Shot yes - but it got revealed in another sketch about a year later when Eddie came back to host that Buckwheat is living in hiding and then gets found and confronted by Alfalfa (played by Mary Gross) who was behind the first attempt using the Stutts guy as a patsy - Alfalfa says it was jealousy and tries shooting Buckwheat again himself, but gets shot instead. It's not as well known as the first sketch - not sure if there's a clip posted-?

@balboa82 I mean, you're wrong about Em being yesterday's news. I'm not even his biggest fan but he is objectively one of the most influential rappers in the world. It's hard to find a lyricist out right now who doesn't cite Em as inspiration. And Nick Cannon is the host of MTV's most popular show. If Eminem is known for one thing above all else, it's his diss tracks, so when someone decides to call him out, people get excited.

So when someone calls out a person who is, objectively, one of the most influential rappers of the last 20 years. People pay attention. Why did people watch Jay Z vs Nas? Cause Rap Feuds are fun.
