masoor dal recipe
Serves 6
1 cup 8s 250 ml
Masoor dal fry
Wash and soak 1.5 cups masoor dal and 1/2 cup chana dal for 30 minutes.
Drain. Add 2 black cardamoms and 2 bay leaves
Add 1/4 tsp turmeric pdr
Heat 4 tbso oil in a cooker
Add 1/2 cup finely chopped onions
Stir for 2 minutes on a high flame
Add 2 tbsp ginger garlic paste
Stir for 1 minute
Add 2 tbsp Kasuri methi, 1 tbso coriander pdr, 1/4 tsp turmeric pdr, 1/2 tsp crushed red chilli pdr / kuti mirch
Add 2 tomatoes ( 1 cup when chopped). Stir for 2 minutes
Add the drained dal along with the whole garam masala
Add water enough to soak the dal
Close the cooker and allow 3 whistles on a high flame
After pressure is gone discsrd the while garam masala. Add salt, amchur pdr 1 tsp and 2 green chillies.
Add hot water to adjust consistency.
Bring to a boil and switch off the flame
Heat 2 tbsp butter/ ghee / oil
Add 1 tsp cumin seeds
1 tbsp chopped garlic
Stir until garlic changes colour slightly
Add 3 dry red chillies
Stir for 30 seconds
Switch off thr flame
Add asafoetida 1/4 tsp, a pinch turmeric pdr, 1 tsp Kashmiri red chilli pdr and curry leaves
Add this tempering to the prepared dal
Cover the dal for a few minutes to retain the aroma of the tempering
Serve yummy dal with rotis or rice
