Mizo youngsters take part in the "Cheraw dance" - a traditional mass bamboo dance of Mizoram on the occasion of Anthurium Festival 2013 at Reiek Village.
Is it true that the Mizos call this dance Cherawkan while the Maara call it "Rakhâ tla"? So says a viewer!
The Anthurium Festival is a 3 day-long event organized every year in September by the State govt. of Mizoram with the aim to promote tourism in the state and also encourage Anthurium cultivation in Mizoram. It is a very popular festival and has slowly become one of the most prominent tourism festivals of the North East region.
The Anthurium Festival is celebrated every year at the tourist resort in Reiek Village at the foothills of the mystic Reiek Mountain. Set in an idyllic and mystic location about 20kms away from Aizwal, the capital city of Mizoram, the serene and tranquil beauty of Reiek Village adds an amazing charm to the beautiful Anthurium Festival. Beautiful Anthurium flowers grown in Mizoram are put on display and sold during the Anthurium Festival and tours to amazing Anthurium plantations are also conducted during the 3days. What started as a way of promoting tourism and the amazing homegrown Anthurium flowers in Mizoram has slowly become one of the most anticipated festivals for tourists both from within and outside the country.
Anthurium Festival is also a festive event where all the various Mizo tribes get to come together and showcase their amazing cultures and traditions. The 3 day-long celebrations are marked by a colorful display of various Mizo cultures and traditions; indigenous games and sports, mouth-watering traditional Mizo delicacies, folk songs and dances, traditional methods of harvesting and cooking, handicrafts etc. Various local products of Mizoram like fruit juices, pickles, handicrafts, handloom items, bamboo products etc are also put on display and sold during the festival. Fashion shows and music concerts highlighting the talented Mizos are also an important aspect of the Anthurium Festival.
Anthurium Festival, for a tourist, is indeed a great festive moment to enjoy the vibrant diversity of Mizoram. A festival that not only highlights the tourism potential of the state but also showcases the amazing culture and tradition of the Mizos, the Anthurium Festival is a must attend.

I'm a filipino, i believe the northeast indian are related to filipinos and other southeast asians people because we have a lot of things in common. I've been watching you guys on you tube for quite sometimes because of curiosity. You got also the head hunter tribes in ancient times like we used to have here in the Philippines. Try to make a research about this brother. I like your tribe. Love from the Phil. God bless you.

I'm a filipino and i agree with you. It's similar from our Tinikling but it is different the way it is perform. Actually bamboo dance is very common in asean countries. It is an asian heritage meaning we are all closely related, the culture, traditions, food etc. etc..

The Anthurium Festival is yet another imaginative means of gathering the youth of north-east India into a worthwhile social gathering, thus also creating a modest tourist magnet... Between Mizoram's Chapchar Kut, Thafavang Kut and Anthurium Festival, Nagalang's Hornbill, Manipur's Sangai and Arunachal's many festivals, there are now that many more reasons for us to keep the north-east active and alive in our lives! Mass bamboo dance at Reiek, Mizoram - fly over the audience as the Wilderness Films India camera unit, atop a Jib arm, glides over this fantastic performance! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RhJTKPPq1G4.html

What is the origin of tinikling dance? The name is a reference to birds locally known as tikling, which can be any of a number of rail species; the term tinikling literally means "tikling-like." The dance originated in Leyte among the Visayan islands in the central Philippines as an imitation of the tikling bird dodging bamboo traps set by rice farmers.
@RuataLungchuang
@RuataLungchuang 7 лет назад
no This is Cheraw dance of Mizoram , it has nothing to do with tingkling of the Philippines or any bird. It has no common root with those performed in the philipines Cheraw is a ritual dance and has a very important cultural significance to the Mizos.

Both the Cheraw Dance of the mizos and the tinkling dance of Philippines are similar but I think both has evolved on their own way in two different places and may be the similarity is a coincidence... Or, since both the groups belong to Mongoloid race from south east Asia therefore they may have got bifurcated in the ancient past bearing the dance as symbol of common ancestor... Lol from Assam, northeast India

The mizo bamboo dance or Cheraw has nothing to do with the Filipino bamboo dance neither does tye mizo people have any relation with the Filipinos.. no one is copying anyone, The only thing cheraw has in common with your Filipino bamboo dance are the bamboos. Cheraw has been a part of mizo culture since ancient time, it might have even predated your tinkling dance or whatever. do some research before putting accusations.

No..It has been traditional dance for the Mizo. How would mizo copy Phillippines if they don't even know Phiippines? Mizos only know their MIzoram land until The indian army started invading their Home and Missionaries started coming in...Your claim sir is legitimately wrong in all accounts

How old would the Mizo Cheraw be? There are actually two main bamboo dances in the Philippines that I am aware of. One is the Tinikling which originated from the Christianized people of the Visayas and the other is the Singkil which came from the Islamicized people from Mindanao. Tinkiling looks more simpler and reflects life of the rural Filipinos while Singkil seems more royalty-oriented with the main dancer representing a king and a queen.
