You wont get it until you lose your car in a pink slip race and have to grind to buy a new one, while hearing this song every time in the menu lol Great song nonetheless.
Perfect comment, bro. I still remember the first time i hit Omega and this song just invaded my ears, i swear to god it was the first time i left my human body and for a few mins i was in that club myself. Orgasmic song.
Youngmandub, if we're talking about decades, let's take it further down the memory lane and reminiscence on the NFS2SE theme song lol, that was my first proper NFS experience. Loved them all, especially Underground 2, up until Most Wanted, the 2005 one, not the crappy re-do. It all went downhill from there.
I agree, first time I entered on the club I spend 30 minutes listening the music and observing the entire club, like if I was on a real life. I'll never forget that moment and experience.
Yeah I remember it timed so perfectly for me that the doors of the club opened exactly at 0:28, and I just standed there completely overwhelmed by the music and the atmosphere of the club and its colors and everything...
@@Hewkll not as often lol. Clubbing is great but that was space club. It's much much different and kind of cool. Plus, it was based around a city with lots of criminals and space gangs. That added to its atmosphere. Whenever I play Mass effect 2 and go to the afterlife I just forget I'm actually playing a game. It's pretty good looking.
+Sherbet_Bomb Ever been to industrial or cyber clubs? The Afterlife club (or any ME series club for that matter) reminds me of those (minus the aliens of course, lol). Strict all-black dress code though :).
+anuj balodi It's a great song for a Lounge-like area. You know: Drinking, chatting, chilling. For dancing I would have taken something faster paced (like they actually did for afterlife in the lower area)
you got a point, the first one i finished was the 3 but i do not have any complain about the ending, is excessively sad in both ways but i could handle that
ShaDO118k Im sorry, but who in his/her right judgement would finish the 3 first? it says 3 for a reason people... I played the trilogy in order, it was magical.
Horacio Ferreira you werent complaining about the ending because you didnt play 1 and 2 before. you didnt spend hundreds of hours with the characters before
Kuba Piotrowski Wow because LeDerpinator totally implied that he/she knows Erik. *sarcasm* I don't know him but I care about his comments because his comment was funny and related to the game. Keep commenting *****
They say a person dies twice. The first time is when his heart stops beating, the second is when his name is spoken for a last time. Rip Saki Kaskas, may you never be forgotten.
+Krixig that first time meeting Aria, everyone pulling guns on each other, her sitting at her.... throne, i guess. with strippers dancing left and right, strobe lights everywhere, and this song. That was one of the best moments in game history.
I'll never forget that feeling when I first landed on Omega and the doors to Afterlife opened - the lights, the dancers, this song. It hit me then just how good this game was going to be.
For me it felt like my trip to London, entering my first English Discotheke. (I'm belgian). Same feeling like in the game LOL! It's so trancy, that even if you are anti-drugs, you'll take some that night.
Watching a video of Afterlife and hearing this song was the reason I bought this game and was introduced to the Mass Effect trilogy. Thank fucking god they used this song or I would probably never have played it
Oh I get it! The upper Afterlife is pleasant, energetic yet calm, excited yet controlled, light and lofty (Heaven). The lower Afterlife is dark, fast, quick, dirty (Hell). And when Aria isn't in her Afterlife she's in Purgatory. How did I not get that until now?
zodiac909 DID YOU JUST ASSUME MY GENDER!?!? jk m8 ^^ Anyway, I was refering to this specific song, which I've heard only in NFS 4 ( High Stakes ) ( I've played 2 & 3 as well, btw so no research needed )
Ah,Mass Effect. The best gaming series ever in my opinion.Awesome and epic story, deep and awesome characters, breathtaking moments, the music, the whole Mass Effect Universe and lore.I could talk about it for days.....I know it sounds kinda stupid but I feel like many people including me have some kind of emotional connection to this game...
+Martin1538|Nr.1 Mass Effect Fan - best storyline/storytelling in any media imo. Definitely beats the new Star Wars movies as far as storytelling/ emotional impact / believable characters goes.
NFS and ME are two very different kinds of games, and not everyone who plays Mass Effect plays car/racing games like NFS, myself included, so there might be why many people don't recognize the song. That this melody is one that was in an NFS game and then got used in Mass Effect 2 is really cool though!
When I heard this, when first playing Mass Effect 2, I instantly knew: Mass Effect grew up. The first one was space opera, but the second one started shadier in some night clubs on some god-forsaken rock somewhere in the galaxy.
It’s 2010, you arrive at the local GameStop around midnight to pickup your Mass Effect 2 preorder. You return home thinking you might play it for an hour or two before going to bed. But now it’s four a.m and you’ve arrived at Omega. Muffled music plays outside of the Afterlife. The guard lets you in and the most glorious electronic music plays. Good times.
Para Norm Honestly in my opinion. the third one had amazing music .-. From the second one this was the only song I liked from it .. but from the third I liked several
+Johnny Ryder Yes, its in NFS High Stakes on the showroom screen, a game from 1999. As soon as I heard it in Afterlife I recongnised it from there, a bit of nostaga, then made the EA connection. It's a nice easter egg and reference if that was the intent :)
This game will always be one of my favorites ah the memories. I remember when I played it, it felt like I was playing through a movie. IMO Mass Effect 2 is one of the best games ever made. The dialogue and story is just sooo good
REST IN PEACE SAKI. Your music helped define my childhood, you inspired me to become a music producer, and your music STILL continues to inspire me 18 years after having first heard it. I am at such a loss for words, and heart broken beyond belief. FOREVER an Inspiration.
His sounds are so sofisticated. They fit perfectly to the high tech car theme from NFS back on those times and even now! Cant imagine better musics for a car showroom.
Thank you for your comment, I just found out about his death today and to be honest, your comment summed up how I feel as well aside from becoming a music producer (took a different career path at school). Ive been a big fan of his music along with Rom di Prisco's in the classic Need for Speed series and in recent years, the inclusion of Callista in Mass Effect. I was sad to see the news, i remember recognizing the music artists that made all these tracks when i was a kid. Its nice to see other fans enjoying and remembering these tracks now. Your comment made me feel better, thanks and best of luck!
While ME1 could definitely use an upgrade in core mechanics, the other two, I think, hold quite well even by today's standarts. Especially with ALOT texture packs and proper Reshade installed - both games look then really cool, and the gameplay was good from the beginning
Yeah, I remember watching some guy's review of recommended Xbox 360 games back in the day when ME2 got announced and he spent solid 15 minutes of the 20 minute video talking about how great and amazing Mass Effect 2 is and all I remember was rolling my eyes and thinking "this guy can't be serious, didn't this guy ever watch Star Wars movies. This must be a rip off of Star Wars of some sort" and not playing it until 2012 or so and got my mind blown away. Now I'm on my 6th or 7th playthrough of the game and well over 1500 hours invested into the game and I loved every single second of it. ME really is something special that I wasn't able to find in any other work of fiction whether it be a book, a movie, a tv show or another video game. It's just irreplaceable in every way. And trust me, I tried. A lot :D Edit: 1.5k hours, not 15k. Fixed that :D
A lot of people love the 2nd over the first but as great as that game is i can't agree. the only reason is probably because i played #1 first. 15000 hours that's insanity. you're hardcore. glad you love it so much it is def worth the love. I'm big on game music as well and this game as well as the first do not disappoint. Amazing soundtracks.
I avoided it for several years after not really getting into the first game. I got the trilogy from a friend about a month ago. I am now obsessed. You are not alone!
***** That's exactly what I said. The song is from Need for Speed 4: High Stakes and in the last second of the video I can hear the sound of the main menu of the game to confirm it. What's wrong? Is because I said "maybe" rather than "surely"?
MarcLeoNyu My bad. I read the thing wrong. Yeah, I too can here the main menu sound at the end. Also if you listen carefully in the beginning, you can hear the "button clicking" sound from High Stakes in the background.
Mike Sessa mine too! it's from Need for Speed 4 High Stakes. I've been hunting for it and I couldn't find it, then I heard it in Mass Effect in club Afterlife, it was like coming home :D
Haha for sure! I also heard it in Shepard's cabin if you toggle through his music playlist on ME2. I am a bit NFS 4 fan, its always been one of my favorites since I was little for many reasons :3
There is something I really love about the Afterlife club's ambiance and I'm not even the type of guy who frequents this kind of club IRL. You really feel like you enter in both a very dangerous place, but also a very seductive and enthralling one. It also has an atmosphere simillar to the dark alleys of the movie Blade Runner. The only thing that really disappointed me in ME2 is that there wasn't enough to do in the club! I would have loved to have a bit more conversations/assignments there. Despite this, I think this was one of the most memorable place in the whole series, maybe even in the whole video game history.
Every time i went into Afterlife and heard this song, i thought: "Hmm, they must really like this song a LOT since they play it every time i'm here." Either that or Aria is a big fan of electro-synth and she has a playlist of this type of music :). Anyway, it's a good tune. I like it too.
God damn'ed drunken nostalgia! This is great, I return to this track every few months or weeks. One of most rememberable tracks of my gaming career (since 1980's) and Mass Effect is my beloved series of all time
Playing through the Mass Effect series for the first time. This and the renegade version interrogation was the best thing that ever happened in this game. Great memories.
Mass Effect's atmosphere is so great: As a child I always dreamt of getting aboard Omega, lie in a room with a full view of the endless space, and finally, this song playing in the background.
_"I knew a bar out on the front that was like this. Me and some friends got stupid one night; long story short, tempers flared, followed by pistols! We all got out, except for my buddy Narco... places like this are slaughterhouses, dressed as nightclubs! I shit you not!"_ *-Zaeed Massani, 2186*
Is it just me that feels really emotional when I play this game? To me, it's barely a game, it's like a really engaging book or movie. I can't stop thinking about it, the story is so deep and it speaks to me on a spiritual level. Maybe it's just me knowing I won't live to see a day when interstellar travel may happen...and so I want to be able to experience that life though this game.
Coming up 15 years after the release of Mass Effect 2, this game is still amazing, and is made even better with the release of Legendary Edition. Since I walked into that club for the first time, I knew that it was going to be my favourite game, at least for a while, and the Mass Effect Legendary Edition Trilogy is my favourite game of all time. This song is so good, and just walking into the club every time hits me with exactly the same feeling every time I replay the games. They're just too good not to! Old games are always the best games, there's no doubt in my mind. When I'm not playing old single-player games such as (of course) Mass Effect, I'm playing War Thunder, which is 11 years old too (although still regularly updated). New games just don't have the same charm.
I grew up watching Star Wars and Star Trek in the 80/90s and I played video games. I wanted so badly for the 2 to cross over. When Mass Effect was announced and by my favorite studio no less? I almost shit myself! The first game with Blade Runner type music was a dream come true. My dream manifest. I didn't even kill for it...amazing!
You all know probably this amazing soundtrack from ME2 but for me, this was the soundtrack which was used in Need for Speed: Road Challenge (also known as High Stakes) from 1999. First NFS game i played, my childhood, hearing this amazing soundtrack once more in Afterlife made me almost cry (from happines)...It just reminded me my childhood i spent with NFS, the times when I was just kid, with no obligations nor responsibilities just enjoying my schools life ah gosh missing those times so much....
Edit; the fact that there are no ads is a godsend and I would literally hand the uploader twenty bucks if I knew the money would go directly to him/her
Saki Kaskas, the hero if EA soundtracks, sunce the last century. His songs were reason alone to buy a game with sometimes less than mediocre gameplay. Rest in peace Legend.
Just picked up the legendary edition, never played these before. Now I wish I had a time machine so 12 y/o me could enjoy this story. I’m early into ME3 right now, but this song and the vibe at Afterlife has definitely been my favorite so far
this is bizarre. I first heard this song in Need For Speed High Stakes. Didn't even know it ended up in a Mass Effect game years later. Interesting to know.
Not only that, but the synth beats are used for Afterlife, while the early oboe cues are used for Samara's theme. So you technically hear the whole song in ME2, but separated into two distinct entities.
The song just fits 100% perfectly in Mass Effect 2 when entering the Club Afterlife on Planet Omega. When I heard it in NFSHS in 99 it didn't make sense, didn't fit the game.
Love that song! It fits so perfectly for Afterlife. I still get goosebumps when I think of the first time I played ME2 and entered the club and the music got louder, that was so awesome. Sounds funny but that was the moment that established the ME-Series at the top of my top-games-list. Still playing all four parts on a regular basis!
Playing this game for the first time. I just spent 2 hours roaming the club and drinking. That intro as you walk in, hearing the muffled music in the background, then feeling it flood into your ears as the doors open. So well done.
