I remember someone scoffing at the addition of wheelchairs into character creation. He said "I don't want to be crippled inside my games as well" This all smells of "stay in your lane", they really want segregation. I personally don’t think characters need to be beautiful in that sense, but the design still needs to be appealing. Plus, of course, free of woke bigotry!

100% agree with this statement, however, in the last few days I've seen dozens of comments from people defending this game and the people who made it saying things like "As a game designer, It's amazing how many armchair game designers we have who are criticizing this game who haven't made a damn thing" To which I replied: "Yep but that's irrelevant considering there are plenty of food critics out there who don't know how to cook, but still know what tastes good and what doesn't. Whether you like it or not...in matters of taste, the customer is always right. If something you spent almost 10 years working on was rejected by your entire market demographic save for a tiny percentage of people, then the customer isn't to blame. YOU and your team are. Going back to the food analogy, does McDonald's or Burger King or Wendy's blame or verbally disparage their customers when a new sandwich or other food item is released that doesn't sell well??? No they simply continue to sell it until they are required to pull it from their menu, dust themselves off and look at market/sales data to see where they went wrong and then try something else. Yet when it comes to Hollywood and the movie industry and streaming platforms with TV shows, it seems lately there are dozens of production teams who proudly crow "This movie/show isn't made for you" when speaking to the people who criticize it when a sneak peek trailer is released. So we don't bother to watch it since it wasn't made for us. Then later when the movie/show is released and it isn't well received they lament their lack of viewership "WHY isn't anyone watching???" Then when it flops, after it's run is done in the theaters or when executives pull the plug due to lack of viewership (such as The Acolyte for example) they blame the audience and call them toxic, citing that straight white males caused it to fail because of massive racism and bigotry etc. It happened with The Marvels, She Hulk, and the newer live action Little Mermaid movie too, and I'm calling it now, the new Snow White and the Minecraft movie will flop too just like Borderlands did. This has NOTHING to do with whether or not we as gamers can design a game. Many of us have been gaming since the early days with the Atari 2600 or the OG NES (or even earlier) so we have LOTS of experience under our belts and thus have been playing games for well over 40 years....a LOT longer than people like you have been designing them. Therefore, we know what makes a good game and what doesn't, and I'm sorry to say, this ain't it chief. The fact that Sony refunded Concord and pulled the plug on the servers in only 2 weeks speaks for itself." @@efwfew as a middle, junior and sometimes senior artist you don’t really have say, depends on what kind of art director, lead artist you have in your team… you have those who you can convince that something doesn’t work or looks bad and then improve it after reviews…but then you have stubborn once and unfortunately there are lot of stubborn ones and most of them are woke supporters, those stubborn ones they will just decline everything you bring to them and force you to make something how they want and see it, those MFers are the worst one, they will decline/reject your feedback/improvements just because they can, because they have power… I have dealt with those types… and when project fails, they will blame you, and most likely you will go to the chopping block…

Art has been hijacked as a whole. We went from beyond beautiful and stunning art to people drawing scribbles and somehow its put in a museum. Da Vinci, Picaso and other famous artists I can't think of right now are rolling in their graves seeing how weirdos disrespect art by throwing soup on it or how scribbles is somehow high art these days. What happened to Beautiful landscapes, wild life, people and unique art like mythology? I guess I should just draw a stick figure and make up a weird story and sell it to a museum.

It isn't bright colors I think are the problem. Natural bright colors are fine. Its the overly bright neon colors in gaming that are the problem. Ubisoft has an obsession with that. The blues, pinks and purples exploding everywhere. Rage 2 had it terribly too. Studios also try to mash colors that are so different to each other it looks beyond weird. Seeing to many different colors in the same place in nature means something is wrong to the animals. A perfect example is house police horses are scared of those dumb rainbow flags painted every 5 feet on a road. They know it isn't natural and know things with those colors are potentially dangerous. If a game takes place in a forest, its natural diverse beauty would be perfect. Then again you don't see like 50 different random colors mashed so close together.

The point is, these are actually talented animators. There was a DEI committee that constrained what they could do. Now they are being blamed .

^ THIS right here is why most games/TV shows/movies fail. We don't want politics or real world elements in our entertainment. We use it to escape from RL drama. We want to immerse ourselves in other worlds and characters and get wrapped up in compelling and interesting stories. We like being able to meet and interact with historical figures and experience historic events in games such as the older Assassin's Creed games. We like medieval fantasy RPGs like Dragon Age, Fable, or Legend of Dragoon or action RPGs like Diablo, The Witcher, etc. Give us characters that have depth who have trials and challenges to overcome...mental and emotional turmoil that they have to deal with...people we can relate to and empathize with but WITHOUT preaching to us about your political ideology. We don't want propaganda. The same thing goes for gender identity crap. If a game has pronouns or a character creator with body type 1/2 instead of male/female I'm out. (They added that crap to a game that's even older than WoW which is Runescape and I'm so pissed about it because it was entirely unnecessary) We want to have FUN...why is this such a hard concept for game developers and movie/TV show producers to grasp these days??? Politics are fine when they are done RIGHT....good examples are Game of Thrones, and the older Star Wars movies up to Episode 3. Some of the Final Fantasy games had politics too...hell FF7 even has environmental activists who called themselves Avalanche and other cool real world parallels like the dichotomy of corporations and their employees vs the average citizens and of course good vs evil. But THAT is where the line should be drawn...nothing overtly in our faces like the slop they make currently

That would be one of my "if I suddenly got stupid rich" scenarios. That and find like shutdown dev studios and give them as much time and money as they need to properly make the games they wanted to make. Like I'd try to find all the original developers of Fallout New Vegas and have them basically remake the game from the ground up, with what they wanted to do but didn't have the time or budget to implement.

In fact, real artists have their own aesthetics. And the aesthetic rules are much stricter than those of non-professionals. But the reason why so many problems arise is usually on the side that pays the salary. When the artist says, it doesn't look good this way, I should do that. Artists usually communicate in advance to ensure that they get what the other party wants. When designing a game, there are usually 3-5 sets of plans. Obviously, the party that pays the salary has chosen the worst one. Whether the artists like it or not, the artists have to do it. But judging from the quality of the game, I doubt the professional skills of these people. It seems that a lot of things are missing.

The fault is entirely on the artists, shelving their morals and self respect for "just a pay cheque", you can get the same by flipping burgers. Zero sympathy for their poor choices

To be fair color schemes are easy and simple. its the design of the character you color which is a bit more nuanced. but still not tough to figure out. If the design is this bad they did it on purpose.

Don't insult students. I showed a literal child--granted, an artistically talented child, but still, a literal child--the Concord designs. She was able to pick apart everything wrong with the character designs just as well as that pro did and just as quickly. I was blown away at how fast she identified the problems with silhouette, texture, color palette, facial structure, clothing and armor, and more.
