At The Dog Wellness Centre, we frequently see Dachshunds like Cooper living with IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease).
There are many things we can do to help reduce pain in dogs suffering from IVDD. In this video, we show you how to correctly massage your dog to provide canine rehabilitation at home.
Check with your vet that your dog is suitable for massage. Then follow our easy to use tips to help maximise your dogs comfort in the muscle groups affected by this condition #ivdd

Thank you so much. Using this on my 15 year old dachshund.

This really worked for my dog. I used to take her to a physiotherapist for all this, but the physiotherapist got nasty when I did what the vet told me to do and overstepped the mark trying to get me to give the dog more prescription meds than were prescribed and getting mad when I didn't (after I asked the vet what she thought of the idea and being told 'no way' by her and the vet standing nearby). My little fluffball has trouble sitting when her back hurts, but when she was standing and wobbling on her bed, I gave her this massage and she sat down and then lay straight away. Nice one. Thanks so much!

Thank you for this. I’d like to add that the only symptom my greyhound displayed was sudden lying down/sitting on walks for very short periods of time. Sometimes all she will do is lean on her thigh and get up again, to take the pressure off whichever area is bothering her. I’m excited to try this massage technique

Yes, stopping and sitting on walks is a big sign of pain! We hope you and your doggy enjoy the massage and bonding time together

Thank you for this video! How long and/or often do you recommend this massage. For pups not getting enough exercise is this also helpful? Guess it can’t hurt.

We recommend once a day for about 5-10 mins. Massage will help keep muscles comfortable but there is no substitute for movement/exercise. It is essential for keeping muscles strong, toned & healthy 🙌🏼

Excellent information! Have you tried supplementation with hydrolized collagen to support disc regeneration? Particularly Type III, as I think that's what discs are primarily composed of.

Hello! If dogs have a mild case, does it get worse or can it stay this way?
@thedogwellnesscentre
@thedogwellnesscentre Год назад
Hi there, Yes, this condition can deteriorate further if not properly treated and a dog still engages in high impact activities (jumping on and off furniture for example)
@purplehazee90
@purplehazee90 Год назад
@@thedogwellnesscentre Thank you for your response. If we're able to keep him from engaging in these high impact activities, are we able to keep his condition stable?

Look it’s impossible to say really as it can depend on many factors. Owners can do everything they can to prevent further injury but sometimes things happen that are out of our control.
