I am convinced having 5 of those in 2020 is a lot cheaper than having 2 new harvesters - but the operator cost eat the budget - i still think it would work and you have a machine for eternity
here in Southern Alberta I can get 860's fairly cheap, and they are good combines yet $10 to $15,000.00...sometimes they need a bit of fixing up, but when a new one simalar sized cost's over $300,000.00,,,I can buy a lot of parts for the 860...
My dad has a 540{the super 300!} Love that 4 cyl. Perkins. Run for a week on a take of fuel running a 13' table and a 1143 corn head. Shes for sale this year, $1500.00. And tes she is a "silver cab". Late model shit man!{L.O.L.}
Saludos desde España. Bonita imagen .Me trae buenos recuerdos esas máquinas y ese sonido en tiempo de siega!!.No hay color con las Massey Ferguson Americanas .😂😂😂❤
The feeder house that massey had was In my opinion superior... Not much maintanance needed compared to a feeder chain. when the rubber paddels get to worn they are easy to replace. A bit time cosuming, but not as much as a rattle rake... I don't even take the header off to do that...
@Hemihappy hey we farm in north texas and are lookin at buyin a 550, we run 3 deere 468 round balers but have never ran any combines. are they decent machines? or a piece of shit? the one were lookin at is a 1988 and has 600 hours and they want $4,000 with a 20' grain header. it appears to be in good shape, what particular parts should we look at to tell wear ? any info is greatly appreciated, thanks for your time!
Years ago, my neighbour bought 3 MF 625 combines. He told me they were "Rubbish" ( his words not mine ) they broke down constantly and he utterly regretted not buying Claas or NH instead .
thats proper classic fleet and thats what a combine should look like someone has put a lot of effort into lookin after them is that a 4840 on the grain cart ?
Man i'd have to have the radio going or something, i remember many a long night almost falling asleep to the low purr of the engine, and alot of caffeen and standing up to strech my legs to keep form falling asleep.
@mcc1327 Ya they are a great machine in my opinion. 600 hours is very low for the age. If they are true original hours then that price is an excellent price. Check all of the chains and sprockets for wear. Look at the main drive belts for cracks and wear. The thresher drive is located on the right side under the radiator. The transmission drive and the main belts are under and behind the cab. These are VERY expensive and time consuming to replace.
Dommage.
EFSforkliftguy....... The 860's offered both the V-8 and the AT6 354.4(6 cylinder) Perkins.... I think the V-8s were used in the Hydrostatic drive combines, while the 6 cylinders were used in the Standard Transmission drives.....
@Hemihappy thanks for your input most belts are new except the trans drive belt and fan belts. were lookin into harvesting bahaia seeds so this machine should work just fine.
Same feeling here! Feel sorry for the guys running those. I ran a 550 for years and must say don't miss it once switched to CIH. Massey's are a pain to fix. It seemed like days to fix anything that went wrong. But when they worked they were a great machine! Nice video!
and paddles are a pain in the ass... they wear to quick, chains are less time consuming in the fact that your not replacing them as often and product wont wrap like the paddles.
Unreliable pieces of junk....which is why Massey handed their combine manufacture over to Dronningborg. I had an MF 865, so l know what l’m talking about. It couldn’t do 20 acres without a breakdown. It’s been 20 years and l still hate that machine.
the 860 we used couldn't even keep up to a 7720 titan II,,,and the 9600 would eat a 7720 for breakfast so I don't know what jkzr580 is thinking,,,but sounds like someone is living in LALA land. lol
