Age 17 in 1991 I was totally captured by the video and the sound. About to leave foster care as soon as I turned 18 to go it alone as a young adult into the unknown big wide world to live independently. Every lonely but strong purposeful stride Shara took as she walked those streets to the bitter sweet happy sad sound was symbolic of me at that time. It moved me back then and still moves me when I hear it today age 50. Still navigating through the streets of life. But then again, aren't we all.

50 something here, I agree it was cool back then, but I'm 100% sure the kids are alright today, we just don't understand it, why hate on them? Timeless and still fresh !!! And also classique! Much better than the comparison betw. the 50s to the 80s or betw. the 60s to the 90s of course. But what scares me more... THAT IT IS at least 30 yrs ago now, when i just turned to a young adult. Where did time go? But glad for THAT experience... You just have to replace the old 80s cars with new ones with the PC...it could easily be a NEW song😆!!!

In my humble opinion, the most beautiful piece of popular music in the last 30 years. It somehow manages to be cold, warm, mechanic and human at the same time. The brilliance of this song is that it combined the tradition of soul music with what was then an amazingly forward-looking style of music without sounding like a gimmick or a cliché. The beat, the samples, the scratching, the strings, Shara Nelson's voice, that heartbreaking vocal and the production... Everything here is about subtlety, balance and everything fitting together at the right time. And it's truly heartbreaking that Shara Nelson didn't have the career she deserved when you know she co-wrote this masterpiece.

Dan explaining how he shot this: "This shot was done in the early 90's, long before Segways, with an Arri III, a 3 to 1 Cooke lens (heavy), a 400ft mag, I made it through 6 takes before I was totally exhausted and could do no more.." A legend, a light-hearted and compassionate man has left us forever.

This filmclip always will remind me of my only holiday in the USA. To be fair, I was a kid. From a naive Aussie family in '98. Now that I realise some of the areas we went to because, why not?. Didn't even have Travellors insurance. Really hope it was some Crips who "found" my Duty Free Winfield Blues. LA and Mexico. Had a blast, us crazy Aussies. And everyone was chill in the US and Mexico. NO ONE gave us hustle. Drank Jungle Juice with my brother in Tijuana.... And the worm turned us both.... Stay Safe.

Make sure to go and see it live, and in 20 years you'll have a cool story to tell the younguns. (I've seen Daft Punk, Muse, Radiohead, Rage Against The Machine, System Of A Down, Tool, Aphex Twin, The Chemical Brothers, and John Williams the classical guitarist, to name a few)

Yeah but the important thing is that you are discovering good music and you recognise the difference. That's awesome. I am a huge music nerd and I find music to be a time machine and a universal language that crosses all cultures, generations, races, genres and time... What matters is that we share good music with people who we care about... There was something very special about making a mix tape back in the 80s/90s...you'd have to consider the time on each side, usually a 90 min cassette split into 2...try get the theme and flow of the songs and take up as much time as possible... Getting your tape and stack of cds and you'd have to listen to the songs as you record them... So you felt the music you were sharing even more... Click record... Click stop... Change cd... Click record etc... Then you use your best hand writing to make the inlay card. You choose your whole layout like it would be for me usually 1) Massive Attack : Unfinished Sympathy 2) Nirvana : Heart Shaped Box Etc etc... Then you rewind the tape and maybe put a sticker on the case and when you share it you huddle together and you excitedly point out songs and tell them how great the song is... Nothing better than hearing 'oh wow I really love this song and I don't have it!' Music was valued more and people had the attention span for an album, a great album told a story, brought you somewhere and was a soundscape that you could explore over and over... Now music is too disposable, too cheap sounding, relies too much on gimmicks and trends... There's barely enough attention span for a 3 min song letalone something with a coda! Some of my favourite albums Nine Inch Nails: The Fragile Prince: Sign O The Times The Cure : Disintegration Radiohead: OK Computer Oasis: Definitely Maybe Fleetwood Mac: Rumours Manic Street Preachers :Holy Bible David Bowie: Scary Monsters New Order: Substance My Bloody Valentine : Loveless I could do you 100 top albums and there's 4-5 albums by Prince and Bowie I'd suggest here too, majority of New Order, NIN annd Radio head's albums are incredible too... This is just my desert island discs if I wasn't allowed 'best ofs' (I cheat with New Order a bit here though!) I miss out on stuff like In Utereo by Nirvana, Achtung Baby by U2, Rid of Me by PJ Harvey, Debut by Bjork, Aenima by Tool, Little Earthquakes by Tori Amos, Mellon Collie and Infinite Sadness by Smashing Pumpkins, Never Mind The Bollocks by Sex Pistols, Music for the Gilted Generation by The Prodigy, Heaven or Las Vegas by Cocteau Twins, Discovery by Daft Punk, Life after Death by Notorious Big, reasonable Doubt by Jay Z, Fear of a Black Planet by Public Enemy, Street Songs by Rick James... Shit dude I can go on an on... Just enjoy what you like and don't give a damn what people think! Enjoy your groove and turn it up high!

This track very cleverly captures such soaring, vulnerable heights of emotion due to the string's key in F major, which was a favourite amongst classical composers, such as Bach. A very intelligent production, which will never lose it's timeless appeal due to its diverse influences that span hip hop, soul, classical and electronica. It really touches deep into the soul of all who behold its achingly-beautiful majesty. A modern masterpiece.

Wow... way off the mark... this is ostensibly in minor.... d minor.... not even close to G major... also: nothing indicates that JSBach liked or used G major more than any other key... as for other classical composers..... Beethoven certainly favoured Eb major, this is well known and documented. Mozart used D major a lot, G major is coming in at 6th place....

@@thehappypimp Correct, Just plinked it out. Dminor. You can jam a dminor 6th chord with it. Didn't know that's what it was till I looked it up. Overated work too IMHO. Give me Wayne County any day ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LJYnSMk9seE.html

I totally feel the same way. When MTV was about music, not stupid teens that don't know about contraception. Stuff like 120 Minutes, The Party Zone and YO MTV Raps, not forgetting MTV News. When I loved MTV U2 was doing the Zoo TV tour and grunge had just started. MTVs Most Wanted with Ray Cokes was fantastic madness that is sadly lacking from modern TV. Still we have the great memories of what it was.
