This was the 11th day celebration in Belfast where massive Bonfires were lit. To many people here this is a day of celebration but many others see it as a prejudicial or racist event fanning the flames of conflict in Northern Ireland.

"Today's the day when all these massive bonfires get lit." "People are gonna be drinking." In Ireland that's a fucking understatement.

One of these bonfires had a banner saying, "Scot Sinclair loves bananas," written on in, about a black Celtic FC player and a picture of it with the caption 'disgusting' was posted on fb and someone commented, "thats our culture," like Jesus Christ how tone deaf do you have to be for that to be your response...

This is why the Republicans are the original SJW fucks, "call them racist". No, fuck off, it was the IRA who fought for the Nazis while Ireland stayed neutral and Britain fought against them.

Show me a link, I'm not gonna take your word for it. Also there are hundreds of black and Asian people etc in NI who walk with the bands, and even African branches of the OO in Nigeria, Ghana and Togo. Stop pretending we're all racist, it's juvenile.
@beccasyoutube

+Allied Atheist Alliance literally just google "Scott Sinclair banner" and it'll come up, not gonnie go onto fb and find the exact post and comment again. And I don't know what you're on about? I'm not 'pretending' everyone is racist? The only people I would call racist in this situation are the people who made and defended the banner, of course I don't think everyone in Belfast is racist jfc, its a great city I go there multiple times a year.

why is the city allowing this? Those fire are so close to those homes, it would set those on fire, if not damage the building outright.
@jmcc712ni
@jmcc712ni 7 лет назад
Houses near the bonfires board up their windows (you can see wood on windows of the surrounding houses on the video). As for allowing it, it would cause way too much outrage to ban it (look up the troubles in NI, even though its ended there's still an us vs them mentality), and the major party in NI is the DUP, a unionist (Loyalist) party.

@richardstalker4769
@richardstalker4769 7 лет назад
A 'tim' is a derogatory term for a Celtic F.C fan here in Scotland. People in Northern Ireland use it too however due to their high support for our old firm teams (Rangers and Celtic) seeing as both of the teams have their connection to the protestant vs catholic religious divide. If you found Tim's video here interesting then you should look further into it. Both in Ireland and Scotland. Plus England for a bit with all the IRA attacks. It's a deep and controversial history.

There's always the Republic to consider. It's like the north .......... but not shit and people don't give a crap about that whole 'loyalist republican' thingy at all. There's also surprisingly few Catholics here these days, especially after people found out that their children were being raped regularly by the clergy. And protestants? They're all far too middle class and busy playing rugby to be griping about how a bunch of long dead people fucked over another bunch of long dead people a terribly long time ago. Sure it's great down here!

The United Irishmen (an early Nationalist movement) was founded by Presbyterian Irish...the Catholics were not the only one's fighting England. The whole island belongs to the people of Ireland and if they love the crown so much then they can go live in England. They would be part of the Protestant majority in the statelet that is Northern Ireland so they are unionists, not separatists. celebrating the defeat of Catholic king James by Protestant William of Orange. Many of those setting the bonfires would be members of the Orange order who march in the 12th to celebrate the victory. What Tim's guide 'forgot' to mention about the violence at 'clash points' he mentions is that there tends to be clashes when the Orange Order marchers try to march by or through Catholic neighbourhoods singing sectarian songs. 364 days a year Irish people prey for a sunny day, there's one day a year however a lot of us just hope it pisses rain!

Good summaries by frijjo and Connor. In Northern Ireland there are Loyalists and Republicans, the former are generally protestant (although there are Catholic loyalists and unionists too) and the latter are generally catholic. The loyalists/ Unionists are British or Ulster Scots want to remain as part of the UK, the Republicans/ Nationalists are Irish and want NI to be unified with the Republic of Ireland (southern Ireland).

The Loyalists are loyal to the Province of Ulster (which they see as a separate state, culture, and identity to both Britain and Ireland); the Unionists identify as British and want to remain part of the United Kingdom. Often the terms are interchangeable, as an Orangeman is a proud Unionist when Britain does what he wants; but suddenly becomes a proud loyalist when Britain refuses to do what he wants.

LAMBEG LOYALIST There are some northerners I'd get a drink with, waffle with & discuss through the buzz of a good time the future of this island, what outcomes there could be. But you are in the past, like your ideas. You are loyal to something that has not recognised your loyalty, & frankly is - in some cases - banking on you continuing to fuck up in your outlook, for the sake of politically-driven cases of guaranteed social tension & conflict, just so people can be hoodwinked into thinking that the island has not changed, that it's people have not changed, & that in general people are so far ideologically apart, that there is no chance of common agreements on any subject. TL;DR, you're a tool.

Go live in England if you love the crown so much. Don't forget where you live. You walk on Irish soil everyday and we will take back what's ours.

The tax payers. Since most of the houses nearby are social housing that get wrecked from the heat of these massive bonfires, the tax payer has to pay for their repairs. Every single year.

woodchuck 00 Taig.. its derogatory term for an Irish person. The people in this video are descendants of British people and still consider themselves British and they hate Irish people.

@Kekistani nationalist true Irish republicans want nothing to do with the eu and we will get our six counties back by hook or by crook. As someone who was born and raised in the republic, all I can say is... TIOCFAIDH AR LA

The wood could have been recycled, not burned for a tradition. We need to respect the trees. Sometimes, rites and traditions need to be reassessed to fit modern times.

Not to think of the smoke pollution. Those poor people that live in the houses next to the bonfires. They must get so much smoke and heat damage to their property and belongings. It all seems a bit primative to me. And where are the police ensuring the safely of the public?

No, this holiday is not celebrated in Ireland. It commemorates the defeat of the deposed catholic king of England James II at the battle of the boyne in 1690. It's a unionist/loyalist (loyal to the queen of England) holiday, there aren't any of those down south.
