Here is my Calibanus Hookeri from Mexico in flower, they flower during Summer. There are only two plants in this species and the other is Calibanus Glassianus which was discovered in 2003. This plant is a dioecious plant which means that it is either a Male or a Female. This particular plant is a Male as you can see in the pictures the flowers are stamen. The bee loves this plant when it's in flower as it contains a huge amount of pollen. It's unfortunate that I haven't got a Female plant to produce seeds, as it takes the plant a number of years to flower to know if you've got a Male or a Female plant. It would be nice if I knew Someone with a Female plant that lives close so I could take my plant to them or they can bring the plant to me, so I can cross-pollinate and get some seeds to propagate . It is a beautiful plant especially when you raise the caudex above the ground level and admire the fissured corky texture of the caudex, which resembles an old volcanic rock.
