A part of Teton Pass, which is the road taken to Yellowstone National Park, collapsed over the weekend. It could have a major impact on the local economy, as from June through September, roughly 12,000 people use the road each day to reach popular tourist destinations.

"The mountainside had been shifting for decades" 0:53 So they only had a few decades warning before the collapse.

That is all fill placed by WDOT. Try using some rock and not just dirt.

when you live on the side of a super volcano of ash... getting rock takes a mining company. if you open your eyes after you pull them out of your democrat partys favorite platform, you'll notice all the traffic cone sized rock the orange'ish color of the fill over the layer of white old as the hills volcanic ash. whoever put that road that high thru that flood gorge must have been a democrat from FDR's era. we all know the leftys think they are more powerful than god which is why their voter base is godless

First off this is not the catastrophic or massive collapse it is being portrayed as, by landslide standards it is relatively small. Second and most importantly this is not a natural collapse of a mountainside, this is a collapse of a massive road fill that was poorly constructed of the wrong materials. Lastly, less than 3/4 of a mile up the hill there is a nicely graveled road on which this could be by passed. It appears it is currently used for powerline maintenance and a decent road crew could have it opened up in a day or two to through traffic.

0:55 "mountainside had been shifting for decades" but did they have a plan to address the instability? Wondering if media will ask questions about the roadway bidding and construction process

there was no need for that road to be elevated that high in the first place, that whole elevation is doomed to the same fate, this was purely done by some bureaucrat telling road engineers " but the views and photography shots are more important than peoples lives, and that road collapse will never happen during my tenure so i can't be held legally and financially responsible so whoop dee do no repercussions for me just for all the rest of you! "

Wasn't Wyoming doing all that fracking for oil, that caused many earthquakes?
@mopthermopther
@mopthermopther Месяц назад
Bingo !
@dirkhamilton2709
@dirkhamilton2709 Месяц назад
Not relevant. Fracking earthquakes are tiny, and I suspect they don’t do fracking in the mountains anyway. The geological features that trap oil are former shallow sea beds, and fairly flat. Fracking 100 miles away had nothing to do with this.

The whole damn thing is one gigantic fill of what appears to be mostly sand and soft soil. It should not be a big surprise that it is (was?) A STRUCTURALLY UNSOUND way to "bridge" that canyon. There needs to be either a REAL BRIDGE type structure built there, OR a re-route of the road onto the more stable mountain-side. Also this IS NOT THE ONLY ROUTE from eastern Idaho to Jackson, Wyoming and Yellowstone. Traffic can be easily re-routed from the Rigby-Idaho Falls area up through the Palisades Reservoir area of the Snake River Valley.

Bison are going to love it. No more morons trying to pet them. It’s probably adobe. My dad was an engineer and worked for IDOT. He hated encountering this. Had to hire geologists. Then he retired. They asked him to stay he said no. 38 years and bye bye.
