Your accent is so, so adorable! I'm dying! Great job with your classic's haul! Not too many Booktubers talk about classics in their channels. Congrats!

Wow, I wish I had a Grandma like that who gives me books like that :) Loved this video, though I am not a fan of too many jump cuts.

Loved this video and all the books you picked up. Some really remarkable books in there, that I didn't know existed. Thanks for doing this. Grandmom, if you're reading this-- please do a bookcase raid just like this one! :) Sense and Sensibility is one of my favourite novels, I hope you enjoy it. I know that the public opinions are quite divided on this book.

I'm actually reading Jane Fairfax right now and I'm loving it. I've wanted to read it for years but could never find it until it finally appeared in a dark corner of my favorite little book shop. What wonderful treasures you you got from your Grandma. Happy reading! 😊

Hi! Great video! It seems to me that this is the best haul that I've ever watched on RU-vid. Those books are really interesting. Besides. I also love the Brontë sisters. Greetings from Galicia!

You absolutely must give North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell a go! It is such a rich and beautiful story! :) Also the BBC period drama adaption starring Richard Armitage is amazing!

My plan for reading Lark rise to Candleford is to read it as a trilogy because that's how it was originally published! Definitely makes it less intimidating!

Hi Lucy, I loved this video, but, uh, Wessex isn't a fictional place! It's an old name for the counties of Hampshire, Dorset, and Wiltshire. This was years and years ago, it was a kingdom when Alfred the Great was king, but it's also a name people who live here use nowadays. I recommend Wessex Boy by Frank Turner (it's a song) who lives here in Wessex too! Wessex is a great place though, highly recommend. :D Great video, I love old books and illustrations are just gorgeous! * heart eyes *

Wives and Daughters is my favorite favorite Gaskell!!! Molly Gibson is such a brilliant character - a little warning that Gaskell died before completing it but it only lacks about twenty pages and then it's a good excuse to watch the excellent miniseries. I hope you enjoy it!

Great haul! It is so lucky that your grandmother has such great bookshelves 😊 I don't know much about Thomas Hardy but they sound interesting. Which one would you recommend as an introduction to his writing? Also, Katie at Books and Things is doing two weeks of Thomas Hardy. She is really knowledgeable. Just thought I'd mention it if you were interested 🙌

I would recommend starting with either Tess of the d'Urbervilles or Far from the Madding Crowd. There are also really great adaptations of both of them for after you've read them. They're my two favourites! I love Katie's videos -- I'll go check them out now. Thanks!

lucythereader Thanks for the recommendations! I've heard of Tess before. But not the other. Time to check them out :)

You should read some Edith Wharton - she had a lot of social commentary and criticism of the upper class and it's great

If you are looking for female poets, Mary Oliver is a good choice. Edna Saint Vincent Mallaey is a slightly more "classic " choice ; and of course, if you are into the Victorians, you need to try Elizabeth Barrett browning.

My Mum re-reads her Jane Austen Books fairly regularly so don't feel you won't have anything to read when you do read them again. I am always reading Alice and never tire of it!

I looved this video, so many books that sound amazing (and may I say I'm a bit envious? 😉) I can't wait to see what you think of these! I started Uni and sadly my reading time is now non-existant with all my other activities but I hope I can keep building my classic collection (and reading them!) :D

I hope you don't think me rude, but I often forget just how young you actually. are. You are so well spoken and emotionally mature, I keep thinking you're in Uni lol Cool haul. I agree about the Encyclopedia thing. That's really awesome. I know there's bound to be at least a couple on Shakespeare but I haven't really seen any for other classical authors. Even though it would be super useful to people in Uni or people who just like to read classics. Also I definitely vote for more Bronte reviews! I love the Brontes!

If you like The Woodlanders because nothing much goes on, I really recommend Adam Bede and Mill on The Floss by George Eliot!! Not to mention that her writing is beautiful (but not Hardy in my opinion lol).

Loved this video. You show your enthusiasm for books. Have you thought about buying old copies of the classics from ebay. I have Dante's Divine Comedy, complete Wordsworth's poems and Don Quixote all from the 1800's. Complete Alexander Popes works from 1776. Something special about old books. Keep up the videos.

I'm currently reading A pair of blue eyes. My previous read was Jude the obscure (by Thomas Hardy too) and I loved it, it's definetly in my top 10 books list right now, have you read it?

I would love to see reviews about The Illustrated Brontës of Haworth by Brian Wilks and The Taste of Sorrow by Jude Morgan. I love to hear about anything to do with the Bronte sisters. I would also love to see a review about Vanity Fair by William Makepeace Thackery. Thus far, I've only seen the 2004 movie and it was ho-hum. I bet the book is better. I was unaware of the dedication of Jane Eyre to Thackery. I am intrigued and I'm going to find out more. You recommended an awesome list of authors that generally are not discussed in British Literature courses in the US. Nice haul!

Wasn’t Wessex real? Before ‘England’ was a thing. I’m pretty sure it wasn’t fictional anyway, just in a different time. Like 1500 years ago 😁
