Massive Fish & Chip Dilemma in SKEGNESS 

I'm seriously considering going back to Skeggy to try the Fish & Chips that the bikers recommended

Skeggy! The golden resort for hundreds of thousands of industrial workers from the East Midlands and Yorkshire for decades. I've a photo of my parents taken in 1949 walking along the seafront with my three sisters. I must remark that Skegness fell into decline but now looks like it could continue pulling families for many more years. Great video guys. Keep up the good work. ❤️😎🇬🇷

Absolutely loved this video - this is exactly like me when looking for a good chip shop 😂 checking out every bodies plate as I walk past and even walking out of chip shop if they don’t look good. Most important thing about a trip to the seaside is good fish and chips, the worry about choosing the wrong one is real 😂

I live in 'Skegvegas' & the best fish n chips are at 'Salts', it's where the locals go. It's on the main Rd to Ingoldmells, on the rh side opposite the Co-op, just past the Ship pub at the traffic lights. I liked your vlog, glad you had a nice time.

My dad retired to skeggy, he always said “they can’t cook fish and chips in skeggy” and never found a decent fish and chip shop in the town. Love watching your videos, they are informative and entertaining keep it up. 👍🏼👏🏻👏🏻

My dad helped build the boating lake. Back in the 1920s. And it was rowing boats.

I spent my childhood going to Skegness, usually as a day out from Chaple st Leonards, or Mablethorpe. A day was enough, more than even back then. But as someone mentioned below it is still a target destination for people from the East Midlands. To be completely fair you can have too much of a ba-good thing, I went there far too often and never wish to return. This is where your video's come in really well James and Helen. I can see the changes without having to go there..win win.

Must say I have never visited Skeggy, looks suprisingly quiet. The sort of place you imagine they stack corpses up at bus shelters to make it look busy. Just my weird sense of humour, great video and quite right about dodgy batter ugh. Makes my evening watching you two. Cheers. PS Helen has got me back into stouts and porters LOL.

I hadn't been to Skegvegas for years up until last summer, we was staying near Boston and decided on a day out and was pleasantly surprised how much we all enjoyed it. We sat near the 1940's cafe and had a coffee in the one near the outdoor pool which also did amazing cakes. We also had lovely pizza's at the bar you finished up in and the service was very good and I would certainly eat there again. Brings back lots of great memories its a great seaside resort with loads to do for families.

Me and the Mrs was in Skeggy last November for the Butlins 80s weekender. Had an absolute blast., i reckon you and Helen would have loved it LOL. I keep telling ya . pop to the Midlands and try our world famous orange battered chips. or try the the Black Country Living museum 🙂👌

Hello James and Helen Maybe you and Helen could visit with upon Dearne in South Yorkshire, in the early 1980s I worked for a building firm called bramble construction from Sheffield. They opened a branch in north London where I lived at the time, I was a truck driver labourer for them. A lot of the staff who worked for them were from Yorkshire. There were some brickies four lads from Yorkshire really lovely friendly lads,😅 I gave them a lift in my truck back home to Yorkshire one of the lads lived in wath. After dropping the other lads off I took this lad from wath home, he took me to his father in laws cafe called picos. Had a lovely meal there very friendly people and while I was eating the owner bought a tray of ale from the pub next door. Great memory of mine Cheers Steve.

I've been to Skeggy twice, the first time was with an ex-girlfriend from the 80s about 2011 when we met up for the first time in ages with our respective offsprings - my son & her daughter - not weird or awkward at all (actually it was a fun day!) She lives an hour or so away in Lincs and recommneded Eptons for a fish n chips lunch, on the High Street just off the seafront a couple of hundred yards maybe and it was lovely, probably in "chip pan alley" as I've seen mentioned. The other more recent visit was on a chilly, grey November day ... and almost everywhere was closed - except the "Pirate Chippy" !! Didn't fancy that either ... Nice spacious seaside town , looks like it's had a lot of modernization recently ...

I've been to the pirate place for fish and chips with the family. Most of it was left, we had to find somewhere else to get fish and chips. We had the cod, not much better than the haddock.

Haddock and chips were £5.99 next door😂 you missed a trick there James. Another great blog.

We used to go to the model village but I think we found out it’s no longer there now, the other side of the clock tower past the crazy golf. I think it’s a dinosaur thing now but not sure.

Blimey, not been to Smegness for years! There used to be a really nice little chippy next to that tacky pirate place (I think). A "Net Zero" pier, well that's a new one on me lol. I see the Tower Gardens has gone all posh and upmarket. I would DEFINITELY go to that lovely 1940's cafe, those cakes looked delicious, and 20p for a cuppa can't be sniffed at.

I got quite stressed watching you both procrastinate so much when you were told the pub , I almost ended up screaming at the screen “ffs just go to the pub” 😂😂😂. And as it turns out you probably would have enjoyed the ‘not proper fish and chips’ from there more than that awful pirate ‘plaice’ (sorry couldn’t resist the awful pun) Loved the boat ride moaning 12 chuffing quid 😂 really heartfelt. Think at some point soon you should treat Helibobs to a proper romantic boat ride , a day punting would make some great content 👍🏻💕

Only just subscribed, love your videos. Would love to see you try the Creel on the main street in Porthmadog if you get the chance, it's the best fish and chips I've had in years. You could even have a walk down the street to the railway station to see a few of the old steam trains in action while you're there.
