Ramzan is the most awaited time for the Muslims around the world. Recently we were in Dhaka, Bangladesh to witness the festive gaiety and traditions of this month-long festival. After witnessing the crazy food buying spree for Iftar at Chawk Bazaar and Nazira Bazaar, the following day we accompanied our host Adnan Faruque, who is a fellow food blogger from the city, to another celebrated content creator Nusrat Islam's house for Iftar. The purpose was to witness the traditions surrounding the feast and learn more about the much loved food items.
Before heading to her home, we went to the Shaheen College Complex to buy some treats for our hostess. First we packed a shahi jilapi and some assorted snacks from Ananda Confectionery. Next we got a pot of Mishti Doi from Sadeeq Agro. Finally we picked up a kilo of mutton haleem from the Pizzarium. Almost every food shop has erected a makeshift space for the sale of Iftar goodies in order to avoid crowding inside the small shops.
After a warm and genial welcome we joined Nusrat at her kitchen for the frying of pakoras which was the only thing left to be prepared. Everything else was ready. Finally we sat down in front of the huge spread laid out on the floor and it looked super tempting. There was was beguni, pakora, keema chop, egg chop, chicken chop chicken roll, piyaju, mughlai porota, choola boot tehari, kabab, shomucha, haleem, different kinds of shorbot, doi chira and many more things. The three classic Iftar items as per her family traditions include the chola boot, khejur and pakora. Fried items, although a not so healthy option, are much loved by everyone. And the variety of fritters just adds to the excitement. Shorbot is also a very integral Iftari thing.
Some of our favourite things were the homemade shami kabab, piyaku, aalu puri and chira doi. More than the food, it was the warmth and enthusiasm of our generous hosts that made it a memorable meal. The heartfelt conversations gave us such an insight about the festive culture over there. we are ever grateful to Nusrat, Adnan and other friends for the opportunity to witness the culture.

I still feel nostalgic when I see Bangladesh. I left the place long long back when I was a child. It is so close to my heart. Love from India. Thank you Anubhav jii & thanks to our Bangaladeshi Sir & Madam. Lovely food, lovely host, lovely hospitality. Coming to some negative comments, I accidentally saw those ... First of all we need to understand "Delhi food walk primarily is a Hindi channel". So that is the reason Mr. Anubhav jii answering & communicating in Hindi. Now the place he is visiting has primary or mother language as Bengali which I think Anubhav jii does not know properly. So my point is that let's not go deeper i mean English, Bengali, Hindi or English. Here they are just spreading love & talking about food & culture in whatever form or languages does not matter. They are not discussing Bhasa andolon or any such history. Pls enjoy the video, enjoy the food, understand the culture that's it. Love from India.

Actually, Bangladesh represents the oppressed low caste Hindus and the oppressed low caste Hindus who later on converted to Islam. We tend to forget that the high caste Bangali land lords used to have their palaces in Kolkata and from there they used to rule the poor East Bangalis as the Jamindars or Land Lords. Those oppressed Bangalis supported the Pakistan movement to seek some breathing space and freedom from the powerful Hindu Land Lords of West Bengal. So we decided to be part of East Pakistan. But then we have noticed West Pakistanis want to be our rulers too. So, in 1971 East Bengal or East Pakistan became my beautiful Bangladesh. No doubt India helped us 1971; but we East Bengalis also helped Indian freedom from the British Rule. A lot of Indians tend to forget that. Since Independence Bangladesh is progressing. Now, we should do more business with India and Pakistan. But we Bangladeshis must keep our distance from Indians and Pakistanis at the same time; because they hate and look down on Bangladeshis. This is a fact. Bangladeshi tourism and import dependency with India must be reduced in the near future. We should have stronger border walls with India and grow our own cattle. We should strictly reduce any religious extremism at all cost. I do not want my beautiful Bangladesh to become the next Pakistan or Afghanistan. We should look towards the further east and try to follow Singapore and Malaysian model of economy and develop Bangladesh. Jodi tor dak shune keo naa ashe tobe ekla cholo re. Amar shonar bangla ami tomai onek beshi valobashi.

@@dungavhai3319 Bro those weren't bengali hindu landlords of west bengal. The people whom you were talking about were bengali hindu landlords rajas & maharajs of east bengal with their thick rusty east bengal district accents. Yes during the permanent settlement introduced by the British in the late 1700s some west bengal bengali upper caste hindus moved to east bengal but they were very less in number. The people whom you're talking about are those upper caste bengali hindus of east bengal origin whose forefathers landed there 1600-1200 years ago when budhhists ruled & those landlords were descendants of up country men & very pure blooded indo aryans since in east bengal they never used to marry other caste women. They were staunch, physically strong & oppresive & would even rape the local normal bengali women. But they were useful to the foreign muslim rulers also to control people. But in west bengal upper caste people are relatively better & their blood is mixed with other bengalis. East Bengal landlords were very scary even from ballal sen's time to the bengal sultanate times & then to the mughal & British times. But during the partition time they got terribly outnumbered as even some of their own people were against them along with lower caste hindus. So they left for calcutta leaving everything behind.

But Moradabad haleem is also different from Hyderabadi haleem. In Delhi, they have haleem biryani which is somewhat similar to what they have in Bangladesh

In Aligarh, the students of AMU call haleem as Daleem due to the exorbitant presence of Daal.

Thanks to Anubhav bhai for exploring unique cuisine of Bangladesh-scrumptious, exotic and lip-smacking! I am immensely impressed with Nusrat who hosted Anubhav bhai with courtesy, respect and unmatched hospitality as if Anubhav bhai had been know to them for ages, and he would not forget this experience forever. What a wonderful culture as we are oblivious about our neighbouring country's food, this video is exceptional and well-presented. I felt the aroma and taste of the delicacies as it touched my senses and I have driven vicarious pleasure out of this. Last but not the least, hospitality is heart touching and would reverberate in our memory for more years to come. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! Anubhav bhai.

Good Video..But please be mindful of the language preferences of the people. Most of them didnt seem to be comfortable speaking in hindi but anubhav kept on persisting.. We dont have to impose our language everywhere

He probably didn't know which language to speak in. A lot of them don't speak English and he doesn't speak Bangla. Plus he has a predominantly Hindi audience. Could have used an interpreter.

North Indians cannot help Hindi or Urdu imposition every where. That is why Bangladeshi Bengalis wanted separate land to preserve and protect our Bangla culture.

I felt the same way. I know Anubhav did not mean it and he is a very polite and inclusive host but here it seemed little awkward. When you visit someone’s country you do not impose your own language on them rather try to speak in their language or English, it’s called showing respect to the country you are visiting.
