As someone who works for Goodwill as a sorter, and knows the game, I can confirm that most of the rare cards are ordered to be separated, and the bulk is sold as such. The rare cards are often listed on their own, on display (such as a Metalworker and two Grim Monoliths I found one day in a lot). I would recommend, to avoid future burns, only bid when you see something worthwhile on display in the image. Otherwise chances are you're just going to get hosed. It's a horrible system, and I hate being a part of it. Especially when you know what you're having to turn in and watched on camera the entire time.

Dude great video, finding even 1 big card like VC makes it worth it for the excitement factor even if you don't break even. The Goodwill lots have been lacking lately and only having 1 to choose from up north makes it tough. Keep up the good work!

Cool video dude. It’s always exciting to go through all these random collections. I tend to pull the £1 plus cards and any cards I like the artwork on. Bought an Odyssey Booster today for £20. Only one card over £1 was about £4, but I pulled one of my favourite cards, a pack fresh Centaur Garden. It’s worth squat, but I one of my favourite art pieces👌🏻 For me, totally worth it! Monetary value is not everything. Plus, I have a theory that further down the road, bulk rares are going to appreciate very well. WOTC aren’t interested in reprinting them because people want stronger cards, but collectors will eventually want them. Even the terrible ones.

I did one of these like a year and a half ago and at the time I got what I thought was about the same results as you $150 value for a $220 bid but over time skimming through it I kept finding random 2+ dollar uncommons and even had a reserve list card I missed Thought Lash. Still go through it from time to time for random cards that might be good in new commander decks.

Drum hunter is a really good card in a mono green stomps deck, especially on a budget as it is a green phrexyian arena and it ramps you.

I bought a shoebox of cards from an individual selling through letgo or offer up a while back and it turns out they were his brothers who had recently passed. The family knew it was coming but obviously that doesn't make it any easier. I assured him that his brother's cards would be played with, traded taken care of etc.

Those bulk purchases are definitely a gamble... I have noticed though that the goodwill auctions are always much more expensive than lots on ebay (In the U.S. at least)

Love it 🥰 I bought collections like this once or twice a year. Just for fun and the thrill. Sometimes just bulk, Sometimes it was it nearly worth it. But once I hit the Jackpot. Was a really smal collection. Someone sells the stuff from his dead neightbor: 50 bucks Cash, no questions asked. I find playsets of Cabal Coffers, Demonic und Vampiric Tutors and some Alpha and Beta swamps. Ps: Sorry for my englisch, I'm not a native speaker.

Pretty cool collection considering it came from goodwill. I found it kind of funny when you said you hadn’t seen any old cards in awhile as you went through fifth dawn and ravnica cards. I know what you meant but it just struck me as funny. The couple legends cards were cool to see .

Yeah I get that. To me old cards are from the 90s. But those sets are starting to age so in a few years I’d call those sets vintage as well.

Yeah, I agree, for me old MTG cards are those that came out before 2000. I'd say Vintage were those that were released before they marked them as Common Uncommon, and Rare, when you couldn't tell by looking at them, and had to read magazines to find out what was what. That would be the sets that came out before Exodus in 1998, or the first five years of MTG.

I miss the days where I could get deals on GWAuctions. I got a small box for $40, full of unglued lands, 6 Rhystic Studies and tons of other commander staples. Another box I got was full of reserve list cards including Hazezon Tamar. This was all right before people starting buying out the reserve list

Im nee to magic also buying some bulk cards some times you find also tokens that are worth something. I always order my cards by editions and than look at cardmarket if any commons and uncommons are worth something..do you think that's a good strategy ??

Ugh, Good Will is a lot rougher than it was a few years ago for finding good deals. That said, these types of videos are some of the most entertaining on RU-vid so I hope you continue to do these (and your luck is better going forward!). Glad to see a good hit in there, too.

@@bigtcgfan ugh, and i keep winning them cause i'm a fucking idiot. i think we did you a favor cause i got one 24lbs lot where the best thing in it was like 1k basic lands. i did recently score 4 oversized promo cards with a black lotus and chaos orb and i won a badass NES with the 3 mario games and a zapper last night so, everything but the actual mtg cards has been alright.

I’ve have just started collecting and playing with some friends. I only have one commander deck that I bought already made and a few packs. Would it be worth buying a bulk of 500 cards off eBay for £10? I know there wont be amazing cards but for a start would this be worth it for myself?

I think that would be worth it if you’re looking to build decks with these cards but for value it may not be the best to buy bulk. But I’ve had times where I’ve been able to profit buy in bulk but it’s a bit of a gamble.

I'd love to do that here but anyone selling a lot of "miscellaneous" cards has either informed themselves of prices and taken out any pricey ones or is a seasoned player posing as an unassuming seller just to offload their bulk xD

I feel the same. I just grabbed a 1000 card lot off ebay for $20. Seller claims they don't know much about mtg and they got a massive lot at an estate sale. I assume they are full of it, but I still enjoy sorting and hoarding the cards with way .

Bought foot long box's on box's of alpha commons back in the 90s for dollar's, lol. Originally just for the artwork, it was as good as heavy metal magazines if not better, the private school I was at said the game was the devil's work. 😆 Older today an I think Hasbro is the devil, the game isn't about skill anymore. Rather play dice...

The Set symbol on each card. Black and White is common, Silver is uncommon, Gold is Rare. Red is Mythic but those are very recent and already printed much less of so you won’t see many of them. Some of the older sets the symbol colors/rarity may be a bit different.

A pile of crap as it should be. Never buy giga pounds of cards, it's always bulk. Seller show the few bulky rare in pictures and refill the rest with crap. I did myself the same mistake few months ago (for 120€) buying from a stamps collector thinking that maybe the guy didn't have a clue about Magic. Just got Khans of Tarkir crap. (some cards even 100x) Hidden gems no more exists with internet allowing people to check up prices.
