😂 honestly same I asked for the throne of glass, red queen, and lunar chronicles for Christmas and got all of them Lol, lunar chronicles isn’t home yet but I finished red queen already and am starting assassin’s blade today 😂 They only arrived this month but I already finished red queen but still have like 13 more books to read but now I want to read graphic novels and ahhhhh so many hauls-
You should buy "Death Note", it's my favourite manga and anime. The main characters are practically geniuses and I believe that you will like the theme❤
Especially since Death Note's by the same people as Bakuman. If you end up liking Death note I would also recommend Platinum End. It's also by Takeshi Obata and Tsugumi Ohba. I think reading them in publication order provides the coolest reading experience for these series but that's just my opinion.
julie ok well it was more so Tokyo Pop went under but owned the copyright for Fruits Basket and so creator of the series lost her rights to it and it was pulled from print when they went under. Yen Press bought it from them recently and sold them as bind ups. The translation is slightly different but it's amazing and I'm glad they're back!
Oooo manga, graphic novels, and comic books are great, they usually help me get out of reading slumps :) Sometimes its hard to find manga or comics that dont go on for like forever tho
im pretty sure that graphic novels are longer and usually standalones with multiple chapters that follow the same storyline/arc, whereas comics usually are a collection of many issues in one trade, so they can follow more than one arc in one book
Fullmetal Alchemist has 3-in-1 bind ups, you still need to get a few of them, but they have amazing covers, a highly praised story, and are definitely worth your time.
Don't know if you have this manga, but get Wolf Children. It's a stand alone manga and is freaking beautiful. It's also a movie, which you should totally watch, and is just really amazing. I recommend it to everyone, it's really good, read it!!!
Great haul video, Jesse! I haven't gotten to read any manga, comic books, or graphic novels yet, but I really want to. That Monstress one looks GORGEOUS and you totally made me want to go pick it up!
Yes!!! giant days!! I read the first volume, no expectations, but everyone hyped it up and I was like I have to check it out, read it then bought all the remaining available volumes and finished them and am now eagerly awaiting vol.6!!
Not sure if you've read it but a great manga I recently read is 'The Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service'. It gets kind of dark but I really liked it. You can get the omnibus editions (I think there's 3 or 4) so there's not too many :)
Shipendy where do you buy them, online? I'm really desperate to buy them all. I watched the anime and i can't wait for the next season they keep pushing back 😢 I read the first three manga and they were so amazing. Please tell me lol
I've been working in comics for so long and oddly have avoided videos talking about comics, manga, and graphic novels for years probably because I'm too attached to them. But, it's kind of nice. I've read pretty much all of these since this is an older video. Makes me tempted to make a channel.
JESSIE PLEASE READ THIS The two people who wrote bakuman have two other main series and are more ya Death note which is completed and has 12 volumes and bind up versions (6 of them) And platinum end which is still going on now Death note deals with death gods and platinum end deals with angels but there's more then that in both
Currently reading Scott Pilgrim and I think it is something you would love. I need to read All You Need is Kill, because it got adapted into Edge of Tomorrow (Live.Die.Repeat) and I love that movie. Also, Giant Days is fantastic.
I wish manga, comics and graphic novels were easier to come by in my country :/ I'm currently reading Death Note, which I'm loving so much. It's kind of a bind-up, the 12 volumes are bound up in 6 books xD
omg I so excited for this video, but im so late, thank you Jesse for making a wide range of videos❤️❤️ omg!!!!!!! im so excited about this, love ya jesse
if Goodnight Punpun isnt in this haul you need it. The volumes are expensive, but worth it. It gets so dark and twisted and psychological and fascinating
It's really nice that you talked about graphic novels. I feel that this genre of literature isn't represented enough on Booktube. I am actually trying to make reviews about graphic novels on my channel. It's such a great way to tell a storie and it's usually really artistic !
I had no idea you were into manga/graphic novels! That made me SO excited! If you haven't already, you should read Nimona, Delilah Dirk, In Real Life (IRL), Lumberjanes, Fruits Basket, Fullmetal Alchemist, and Bryan Lee O'Malley's new gn Snotgirl.
Yes!! Someone else finally mentioned "The Unwritten". I love this series (have read 9 volumes, so far). How many "volumes" does the deluxe edition contain? I started "The Wicked & the Divine" ages ago (when there were only 2 volumes out) and devoured them. After watching your video, I think I have some more purchases to make. Completely agree with you, by the way, that "The Wicked & the Divine" throws some crazy plot twists at you.
That was volume three and four of the Wicked and the Divine, not four and five. Wicdiv is the only comic series that I keep up with, it's really good !! The fifth volume came out about a month ago I think.
I don't know many manga that are a complete series in just one omnibus (bind up)! But I know that Cardcaptors comes in 4 omnibus (my fave anime, it's a pretty good manga series too) but a manga I suggest that unfortunately doesn't come in a bind up is Blue Exorcist :)
Tokyo Ghoul is AMAZING! Though it doesn't beat NARUTO or BLEACH (before it got boring) or ATTACK ON TITAN!!! you should try these they'll blow your mind especially the plot twists in all (mostly Naruto)
Erased has a three-volume-long bind up. I think you would enjoy the story a lot, AND the bind ups are in hardcover! It's one of my favorite manga & the Erased anime (Boku Dake Ga Inai Machi in Japanese) is really nice as well ✌🏻
Man I definitely need to pick some of these up! You should check out Fables btw, it's an adult version of fairy-tale retellings with some really interesting story-lines.
OOOO Get Magi - that's a really really great manga series. It's by Shinobu Ohtaka ! As you can see I really recommend it but it's just a really good manga series!
My favorite graphic novel series is called DramaCon. Its not a manga but the art style is similar to that. Its def more of a rom-com but its really cute and fun. Theres only 3 vol in the series so there is a bind-up available which features ~bonus content!~
There's a follow up series for Gotham Academy! And it's first trade is actually coming out this week and I'm really excited to read it :D "Gotham Academy: Second Semester" and there was a Gotham Academy/Lumberjanes crossover that came out that I want to read when I've read more Lumberjanes :)
I loved Snotgirl by Bryan Lee O'Malley. Only 1 volume is out so far but I really enjoyed it - its one of those stories that has something else going on but you don't quite have all the pieces of the puzzle yet. The art style is really cute too - O'Malley isn't the illustrator, but Leslie Hung (I think that's her name) does an awesome job!
I just want you to know that Tokyo Ghoul is a veeeeryyyy dark series and personally, I wasn't too fond of the ending but other than that the series is amazing! 100% one of my favorite manga series!
I don't know if you know but All You Need is Kill was made into a movie with Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt called 'Edge of Tomorrow' - highly recommend! It's a fantastic movie!
The only big manga bindup I know of is Magic Knight Rayearth, and heads up for WicDiv Vol 3, if you notice the art style changing constantly, don't worry, the artist temporarily left to finish out another project he and Kieron Gillen did
My top three favorite manga, other than Tokyo ghoul, are: Durarara - Kinda hard to describe, but mostly about a boy moving to go to to a high-school in a city called Ikebukuro, which is filled with some mysterious things going on, and its really interesting Danganronpa - Where 15 high-school students get locked up in their school and their only way out is if they kill one of their classmates and don't get caught in the school trial, If they are, they get executed, but if they get away with their murder, they go free, and the rest of the class gets executed and Gekkan shoujo Nozaki-kun - A girl named Chiyo has a crush on a guy who is a manga artist, and she ends up helping him with his work, while he is pretty oblivious to her feelings (i think this one is cute!)
If your looking for a new manga series I recommend " The Ancient Magus bride" also I highly recommend " The Demon Prince of Momochi house!" that series is good! vol 10 and 11 are not out yet! also The Water Dragons Bride is very dark for a Shojo manga!
Late to this but I wanted to recommend the comic "Descender" if you haven't tried it yet. I discovered it this year and after reading Volume 1 and 2 I'm really enjoying it.
There is anime you may be interested in called Read or Die. The anime follows a famous writer who ends up staying with these three sisters who run a small detective agency. The three sisters have the power to manipulate paper and the two older sisters are hardcore book lovers.
Attack on Titan has bind-ups, though the series isn't complete yet so they are still being released. The fouth one comes out soon, but there are currently three massive volumes that cover a lot of the story.
This year has been the year I really got into comics and graphic novels. and now I'm hooked. & I want to read more manga. I really want to start death note, orange & the infernal devices. the thing is I can't really commit to such a long series (lol 8 books or volumes is my max) And most manga series are longer than that. I also want to read some black butler manga but not all of them. i alsoooo loveeeee the wicked + the divine (But i'm also behind😂)
