You have the patience of a saint!! Your family are very, very lucky to have you. Such a hard worker. My mother didn’t expect me to clear up after myself (toys, clothes, etc) or give me chores. Didn’t do me any favours. It was embarrassing when I visited other children’s houses because I was pretty incapable and rather spoiled. My mother did everything.

Hi, I’ve been watching for some time. Great work! You asked about ideas for your daughter’s chores. If it were me I would focus on finishing her room completely so that there isn’t an excuse for her not being able to clean her room weekly. Help her decide on a place for everything, and remove everything that she doesn’t want or need. Then move to play room or her desk area. Once these areas are done then have her be responsible for putting things away. If it’s overwhelming put things in boxes then go through one box at a time. Best wishes and love from Ohio.

I think any progress is great. You have to do it your way so that you keep going. If you force yourself to focus on a specific area you might lose impetus. Re your daughter’s dust allergy - please have a think about hoovering rather than sweeping. I know you enjoy sweeping but the hoover will get rid of way more dust and traps it inside so that you remove more from the house. If you have a hose and attachments you can also do cobwebs, behind radiators, rugs, upholstery, curtains - all of which trap dust. Re chores for your daughter - how about just asking her to spend a bit of time each weekend removing things from her room that she doesn’t want any more? That way she is helping and you are moving towards her goal of the room being ready to redecorate. Also treat yourself to a new basil plant!😁

Don't apologize about your kitchen, Emma. If I was involved in a "project" I'd make a light supper, maybe sandwiches?

I think its very hard to clean, declutter and tidy when you are still using the room. If its the kitchen, then we try to have prepared meals that we could just heat up meals or have food already to eat in the fridge. We might have a BBQ and salad and eat outside. That way we can focus on the declutter and cleaning, and not having to re-clean each time after meals, adding to the extra task at hand. Thanks for the long video, I have been catching up with my general kitchen cleaning this morning, whilst cooking a meal to go in the freezer for the busy mid week. Its the getting started that is always the hardest and once I start, its never as bad as it seems.

I would vacuum the floors to suck up the dust then damp mop to pick up the rest of the dust. And have hard flooring with machine washable rugs.no fixed carpets except on the stairs. Xxx

Don’t feel like you’re letting us down because of your work tops. It’s all a process. As you get rid of more you’ll find that less builds up. The fact that you keep working on it is all that matters. As for jobs for your daughter, we had our girls bring there laundry to the laundry room on a set day each week, clean their rooms, change their bed sheets, set the dinner table, clear the dinner table, do dishes, empty the trash bins in the bathroom, bedrooms, living room, office, laundry room. They helped in the yard with weeding, watering and sweeping off the porches. After they would take a bath or shower it was their responsibility to clean up behind themselves. Hang their towel, put their wash cloth up to dry, close their bottles and put away, pick up their dirty clothes and rinse down the tub/shower. All things that will definitely help her as she gets older. I learned a long time ago that my husband is not a mind reader! Asking for help when I need it was a lot better for my mental state than being upset that he wasn’t just doing it. I think sometimes men just don’t see things the way we do. I think that you might be better served for your efforts if you just did one whole room at a time. Do it in small chunks and finish the process. If you have 20 minutes, work in an area of the room for 15 of it and take the last 5 to follow through on throwing away the trash, put items that belong in another room away, etc. I think you would find that you’ll make more progress. Sorry for the long response! Another great video! Thanks for sharing! 😊

A few ideas re jobs for your daughter to do, laundry , ie load the washer, hang the washing out. Keep the dining room table clear, scrape the dishes and put them to soak, go through the cupboards fridge and freezer the day before shopping and make a list of what you do and don't need, keep her bedroom and play room floor clear making sure anything played with gets put away again properly. Water the plants in doors, And while you are decluttering the main areas of the house she could help by putting anything she no longer wants or needs from her playroom and bedroom, her own things wherever they are, crafts etc into bin bags ready for you to check and then sell or give away, freeing up your time for the main areas, see how she gets on be interesting to see if she finds getting rid of things easier than you do sometimes. She might enjoy making a written roto for jobs ie she could assign herself , Mummy and Daddy weekly tasks and see who's best at keeping at it, and she can be the one reminding everyone to do their jobs! It will also drive home how much work you or whoever are doing more than others and try to make it a bit more equal

Your daughter is lucky that she can keep her medication with her. In the US, it varies from state to state what the laws are, but they are most likely near the same. In my area, the medication has to be kept with the school nurse. If the child has something like severe asthma, it is ridiculous what hoops the parent has to go through. I saw this first hand with a woman I worked with and what she went through with her child, who had severe allergies and asthma.

Funny story: My husband was teaching computer science coding and asked his students to create a program that would convert Imperial measures to metric. Your Kitchen hasn't let us down at all Emma, you are real and that's what counts. ❤ I've just got rid of 2 big black bin bags of stuff today, I get it collected and what money the charity make from selling it goes straight to the charity you choose.
