As a DIYer myself, I met my current Snap On dealer at a brewpub. He was out with his wife, but still wearing a Snap On coat and Snap On hat. I casually asked if he was a dealer and he said "No.." Then he laughed and handed me a business card. I called him on Monday, and the rest is history.

Doc, I’ve watched more of your videos on my iPad late at night while my wife is trying to sleep than I care to admit. I just showed her this comment and she said “Babe, your Elvis!”, only half joking. I appreciate your note, and thank you for taking the time to comment. I watch all your videos and though they’ve cost me a few bucks, they’ve all been worth it. If you ever find yourself on an over landing trip in upstate New York, I’d love to buy you a beer. Cheers -Peter

I remember my first time on the Snap On truck. Dealer was extremely polite and helpful. I was giddy as can be. Ended up purchasing a F80 3/8 drive ratchet and a pair of Duckbill pliers. He gave me a free hat as well. Pretty sure all dealers do that for first time buyers.

Love seeing more avid enthusiasts of the green snap on tools! I got that screw driver set early on in the game and I have no regrets. Whether it be for DIY or for work (I personally use them for both) those tools last you forever. My great grandfather was a contractor and you know what we still have passed down from him? His snap on screw driver and it works just the same as the day he bought it. Awesome video, very engaging and as relatable as it gets, can't wait to see more videos from you!

Appreciate the kind words, Trent! Having grandpas tools is the best. I just “restored” some of my grandfathers tools (couple videos ago) and it was so rewarding. I showed him the tools last week (he’s nearly 90) and he was completely taken aback. I’m a sucker for nostalgia, but I can’t help it, it was a great experience for us both and I’ll take care of his tools the same way he did for the next 50 years

As a retired heavy diesel tech I have a lot of Snap On tools that I bought over the years. On occasion that I need a tool I still get a hold of the Snap On dealer in my area. Snap On tools are pricey but in my opinion they are the best. Congrats on a great tool haul and a great video..welcome to the addiction. 😂

Im only 23 and I’ve been in the industry for for 4 years. I’m so glad that the giddiness is universal, congrats on the Haul. I find myself always looking for different options regarding tools and who I get then by but with the exception of my snap on crowfoot wrenches I can’t say I’ve ever been disappointed. I recently got some of their hard handle tools and actually really enjoy how they feel(carbon scrapers, and 3/8 multi position ratchet)

@@HeyDerFolks more so that I probably should have saved some scratch and get em from somewhere else, that being said they work and like anything if I break em on a piece of construction equipment I can get em replaced no worries. I’m infatuated with the Power Blue color right now so most of my snap on hand tools are Power blue but they are hard to get some stuff in, been utilizing eBay for some of the stuff that I can’t get in the truck lol.

Your Snap On journey is an interesting one. I have been building a DIY shed that... I think is pretty impressive. All my neighbors say so because I refurbish, restore and repair mostly tools especially antiques. I have a LOT of Harbor Freight and I think I would like to migrate like you.

Restoring old tools is a great time, I’ve got a few Shorts restoring some stuff. I’d like to do more, just need to find it. As for migrating to snap on, do whatever makes you happy! I find them a joy to use and appreciate that I’m building a box of tools that will outlive me, and the folks that use the, someday will hopefully be as proud of them as I am. First two tools I’d recommend to someone getting into snap on would be the ratcheting screwdriver, and the LN47ACF 6” pliers.

Best tools in the world babbby. Ive got a decent "small" collection of snap on tools at my home box now and its just fun to collect and even better to have them when doing basic maintenance to my vehicles and i use the pocket pry bars all day at work, valve covers, front covers, some oil pans with the help of an 8 inch ory bar and they hold up good i even hit them with a 24oz hammer and use them as chisels some times lol

Welcome to the Snap-On addiction. One tool turns into 4 then into foam sets next thing you know you buy a roll cart. Then you realize that roll cart isnt big enough for all your tools so you decide to buy a master series and so on. Your wife not knowing anything about tools sees your addiction and is upset that you spent a boat load and wants to know why snap-on tools are so awesome. so you take her on the snap on truck and then she sees the pink handled ratchets , pink screwdrivers and all the other pink tools. She thinks they are cute. So you tell her snap on caters not only to techs and diyers but to girly girls like her. After all the fuss you end up with a pink epiq full of pink tools. Anyways good tool haul lol

First video and I’ll definitely be watching more!… you really don’t use the tools? Is something you collect? Just curious when you said something like “the tools themselves are the end”. Cheers! The set looks bit of kit! I’m eyeing those pliers for certain. Plus, my favorite ratcheting stubby is hands down my snap on. If I need something smaller I have a couple options but if I can fit the stubby and my hand in there… I have to try to hard handle stubby as I recently saw one. My dealer never even mentioned it haha

Wow dude, that snap on dealer was really blowing some smoke up your you know what. Blue point is melted down snap on tools, hahaha, nah. Blue point are just made in taiwan or china tools that snap on sells to capture a more price conscious buyer. Knipex fits german cars better because they're made in germany? Hahaha, nah. That's not how that works. A metric tool has to meet metric specifications. like ANSI or DIN specifications. They're all the same "fit" wise for the most part. Especially comparing top tier manufacturers like snap on and knipex.

@@HeyDerFolks I mean no offense to you. I'm just calling out that snap on dealer for saying stuff that is just a straight up lie or made up. Just gives me that grimy "says anything for a sale" type sales man vibe to me.
@HeyDerFolks
@HeyDerFolks 5 месяцев назад
I hear you, and I get it, we should all take what a salesman says with a grain of salt. That being said, why offer such an elaborate story as a lie? His initial answer was that they were snap on designed (not manufactured) tools, which were likely to be better than the Husky/Kobalt etc. stuff you’d get at a homecenter. He then opened the drawer full of broken tools to show me and explained the process by which he sends them back to snap on and what they do with them. I’m not the expert, and I don’t really have a dog in the fight (I have no interest in buying blue point), I’m just not sure what he would stand to gain from perpetuating such an elaborate hoax.
@chrxx4327
@chrxx4327 5 месяцев назад
@@HeyDerFolks I'm not claiming to know all the inner works at snap on. But logic dictates that of course they will scrap steel. There is money to be made. However companies typically would just offload the scrapping process to a third party who specializes in that field. Logistically, and monetarily it makes no sense for them to waste their efforts scrapping and shipping overseas to the exact factories that make blue point. Also since many of the blue point tools are from a white label manufacturer who makes the same tools for other companies with a different name. That muddies the logistics even further.

I think a lot of the idea around Tool Trucks is that they're meant "For Mechanics" and other "Professionals" who use tools for making money and thats pretty much it. But you dont have to be; any Joe Blow off the street can just . . . _walk onto the Tool Trucks._ Even if they're parked outside a mechanics or someplace specific primarily for specific people, you can just mosey on up and buy stuff. I dont know why that seemed so foreign a concept to me either, but maybe I'm just a late bloomer. That being said, aside from Snap-On's website being weird, buying from Tool Trucks is also supporting an independent business of sorts; as far as I know the vast majority of them are all independently owned dealers that own all of their own stuff. Yea, Snap-On is expensive as hell . . . but it's primarily American-Made, and independently owned American businesses. I can always support that, even if I dont have the wallet for it.

My sister lives across the street from a snap on dealer. She needed a nice little 1/4 inch impact I made the mistake of saying just go get one from the guy across the street. I think I almost got her a divorce haha. Milwaukee Makita or dewalt would have been much better in the case of a drill. Hand tools for sure a good investment
@HeyDerFolks
@HeyDerFolks 5 месяцев назад
Ha, sorry to hear that! I stick with Milwaukee for all of my power tools, aiming Snap On for hand tools. Though, most of the videos suggest that the Snap On impact with the rocker trigger is pretty nice, so maybe she got a good buy after all!

Was the pricing on the truck different than online? Trying to figure out if I should find a truck like you
@HeyDerFolks
@HeyDerFolks 2 месяца назад
The base pricing is usually the same, but in my experience online isn’t eligible for the truck promos. So when I got the wide mouth adjustable wrenches they were about $30 cheaper on the truck vs online. Similar situation with the ratcheting wrenches, truck promo netted $50 off.
@infamousgbear

Man, I pass by the snap on truck in my area almost weekly and think about just dropping in all the time. Never been on, but would love to one day. I’m homeowner / trade adjacent (do a little tech work for a coffee company, so I have to do a little plumbing, electrical, and all sorts of random wrenching and screw driving), but not so much so that I’ve been able to justify getting any snap on tools yet. I also know if I get on a truck I’m gonna spend way more money than I meant to 😂

I’ll tell you with complete honesty, if you find yourself using a ratchet often there is none finer than a snap on ratchet

Eh, treat yourself! I hear you though, hard to wrap the mind around the price. I try and justify it by saying (mostly to my wife), “money comes and goes, these tools will be forever…,like our love”. She laughs and it seems to work. Worth a try!

I visited my local Toyota dealer and they told me when then Snap-On truck comes by their maintenance garage. I bought a Talon plier & slipped the dealer $25 cash for the promo "Snap On shaving razor". That will probably be the last time that I purchase anything from Snap On. Way too costly for my DIY needs.

Don't buy those snap on hand tools that knipex makes. I thought snap on was the best and bought all snap on until the knipex stuff came out and quickly realized Knipex is far superior. I have both now and I grab the Knipex every time. Knipex makes hundreds of tools, not just cobra pliers.

It’s your money and if it makes you happy go for it. However unless you are wealthy I don’t see the logic of buying SO unless you’re wrenching hard daily or almost daily in a professional setting. Otherwise SO is just not worth the $ for the occasional/casual user.
