All dog can be harmfull . A small dog of few kilo can kill à baby . A 10 kilo dog can severly injure à child. ( à 30kg malinois can overpower à adulte. ) All size dog can be dangerous for a young child .
I just want to send a shout-out to Joel for supporting owners and keeping his commenters in check. Anyone seeking professional help with their dog and more importantly with themselves is a responsible and active dog owner. They deserve praise and support. Training is hard, and thanks to great trainers like Joel, we don't have to do it alone. Stay positive and train on.
It's a no-win situation if it goes down that route. Yes, the dog will win a fight against pretty much any other dog, but... Then it will get put down by law. No one gains from that. Huge dogs like these need to only be aggressive when there's something life-threatening happening to the household, like riots or violent home invaders. Short of that, they really shouldn't be fighting anything, except maybe the urge to jump through the sprinklers during a warm summer day. We're not in a Mad Max world yet. We're still civilized. Doggos have to be, too.
We have a 7 year Boerboel - that dude has it right; you cannot allow the dog to ignore any command. The Boerboels are AWESOME dogs - and at 175+ pounds, they can be A LOT to handle and need to be kept under control 100%.
Dear whoever reads it, I am writing to you out of respect and despair. I have a 2 year old Central Asian Shepherd who is the most beautiful dog I've ever seen. He's been with me for 3 months and everyone in the house loves him. He receives love and returns it. He is totally loyal. A bit stubborn but obedient in the end. But he has a click in his head, he is a murderer. He doesn't growl at dogs, he doesn't bark, he doesn't give warnings. Just sneak up on him or approach him lightly and grab him by the neck. When that happens, don't let him go until he kills him. No matter what I do to him, he won't let him go as long as he's alive. Like a wolf. I can drag him across the concrete, beat him, spray water in his eyes. I put my hands in his mouth and open jaw to pull out the dog. I saved only one of the 4 dogs he caught. He doesn't touch people. But dogs, puppies, cats, birds, if he gets the chance, he will kill them. The community is afraid of him, they are afraid for the children. I am afraid that he will be poisoned. What should I do? Is there a way to talk him out of it? The only dog he has normal interaction with is one female he mated. I can't let him kill anyone else. I'll gladly pay for good advice that doesn't sound like keeping him on a chain for the next 10 years until he dies of old age. Thanks in advance to everyone. My email is: djole.grekoss@yahoo.com
I have a little dog so he doesn't have chance to overpower me, but I strongly agree. I use this approach with mine as well. I think if you allow dog to ignore commands then it create stubbornness in the future
You can really feel how Beckman is looking for something to work on, but the dog is really good with his owner. Honestly just spending the amount of money on a session, while already being so in control shows how much this guy cares.
Fr and not just necessarily bad owners, but ignorant owners. People who think it’s ok to own a 40kg+ dog in a tiny backyard, or a tiny chihuaha right next to a well known area for crocodiles or other dangerous animals. The common sense is lacking in some people and unfortunately that affects their’s and other’s animals too.
This is one of the best large dog owners I have seen. Not just because he can physically handle this size of dog but because he understands that discipline is paramount when it comes to large dogs. It really shows how much he loves his dog since large dogs are not given any chances once they make a mistake and attack a person. By instilling discipline he's helping his dog protect his own life. Great job and great dog!
Please show your videos with a same dog. If you got it, flaunt it, is what I say. Remember, a dog and people-aggressive, powerful, massive dog that you don't know video. There are no illusions at all. You see what you see. I'd you don't have any, we understand.
@@garythesquidsquid7779 Hey Squid, So, how about you show your videos with a same dog. If you got it, flaunt it, is what I say. @@kapaul9922 His owner isnt new to him though. The dog seemed perfectly comfortable with the other dogs and the environment, just seemed nervous regarding the male owner. Maybe you're right, I just found the body language sus.
When you have a dog that big and powerful it needs to be perfectly trained. The level of damage a dog like that can do doesn’t leave room for mistakes. It’s good he’s aiming for perfection.
'Some un neutered males he doesn't like and some he does'....I think he does not need to like every dog, but he does need to have manners about it. Just like humans, most of us don't like everyone, but we can choose to be civil even towards the ones we don't like. I'm so impressed with the owners of that big beast. He is definitely a manly man.
WoW! This owner is perfect for a breed like this. Not everyone can or should have a guardian breed. They just don’t know what needs to happen. Well done. What a gorgeous dog. Prince knew this is a great dog too. It felt like he was testing him out at first to see what kind of attitude he would give.
@@heatherorcutt4266 psych evaluation before hiring guard… ppl?. Haha aka, cops?. Im sorry i know this a whole nother subject.. damn did this remind me exactly of this.. theres too many law men and cops who love the power, and power trip far too damn much to be walking around w a gun, its like having some meek or small person going around walking a massive unit like the big dog here… if something goes wrong.. like if someone tried to attack or even just approach this dog owner the wrong way… and the dog attacks, its game over… but why is that?. Its not the dogs fault.. its not the guy getting attacks fault? Its maybe not even the dog owners fault ! Its just a bad combination to have together like that.. a recipe for disaster as they say… cop who power trips.. or just enjoys that power a bit too much and/maybe was bullied or picked on when he was little, and now that hes big a and has a gun he can use.. basically when he wants/ “feels” like he needs to is just bad all around. Lets help all our guard people and guard dogs get all the help they need and hey, maybe if there not meant for the job, theres other things that can be done in life? Its not bad, and its safer and so much better for everyone
I'm 5'3 and in the early 2000s I had a Rottweiler, big boy. His back was to my waist. He was just like this dog. I didn't let him get away with nothing and my attitude kept him on check. If he wanted to he could have mauled me at any time. But he wasn't like that, he was a gentleman and a good boy. He will be missed.
Wow, 2 calm, well adjusted dogs like eachother? Surprise surprise. Prince looks like he's happy that this dude ain't crazy like a lot of the other dogs he helps with.
Yes. I have an AmStaff. Often times other dogs will bark at him and pull. Their owners rarely are able to control, Correct or in any way stop their dogs from barking. Many people have poor control over their dogs. My dog stays calm always
Gosh Kong's owners are the best owners I have ever seen anywhere. Kong is a gorgeous specimen of a Boerboel. And I will say his owners are built like their dog tough, strong and no nonsense. I totally enjoyed this video. Thanks to the owners and Joel for sharing. Kong seems perfect. Not all dogs will get along just like people.
I like how at the end kalen tells you he DOESN'T want Kong to fear him, but he still knows who the boss is. I think that's super important to emphasize! Dogs should be led and directed, commanded, taught, but it should be out of mutual respect ,love and loyalty, NOT fear. There are too many owners who get dogs they are not prepared for and then hit them or punish or treat them badly instead of leading and teaching them. This owner was great. The video was really informative and I like how you and the owners can show that corrections shouldnt and DON'T need to be made to hurt or scare the dog. That's really important and it's the more responsible, moral way to own an animal.
10.41 notice the cower. Kong learned that as a little puppy, to him his owner is still a giant who can pick him up by the scruff. So it is a bit of fear or perhaps a better term is 'healthy respect'. People who train bears or elephants or lions all use the same.
@@rklmbd2934 You can't train dogs around fear and cowering. I've seen dogs trained like that completely ignore owner once it's locked target.. It's all about correction correction correction! Train a dog around fear you're basically sitting on a time bomb of when does that fear disappear and you'll have to get between that dog and it's target.. Good luck with that one.. That's why the trainer clearly said I don't want the dog to fear you and reassure it that it isn't a big punishment thing
Yea. If the dog listens cause he FEARS the owner. U can tell by the behavior of the dog AND the owner. U can witness red flahs everywhere... It isnt hard. You will instanty know a quiet, confident alpha big dog having MUTUAL respect and listens to owners commands and corrections with being attentjve and respectful.. When I had to correct. I would correct n my dog would just say "ok dad...fiiiiiiine I wont steal that other dogs ball" its like in human language just telling your kid "hey son stop that please," no yelling no anger and not abuse In dog language its like that. Simply telling your pooch "hey son....just stop it.....or else" If dog has behavior problems than we gotta do the "or else" path but agajn be ethical...respextfuk but stern and with discipline
So refreshing to see an owner who is not afraid to be a leader for his dog. That is one lucky dog. He is going to have a very good life with his human.
This human Is teaching his dog the hierarchy rules, it's Life stuff. People treat their dogs like kids and humanize them and it's wrong. I love my dog but i don't want to let him know too much. I like my dog to be a dog and a well behaved dog. Won't buy him shoes or socks as other ladies or men do, i'm also sure about the fact that if i'm not able to give him directions all i'll get it'll be an unhappy anxious dog. I like to let him know that i'll take care of everything also his protection and so he has to follow my leadership and my directions.
This owner is awesome and he's right 99% of the time isn't good enough for a big boy like Kong. That 1% slip will be his only slip because he's so big and powerful that potential has to be respected. He's doing an amazing job and he's so dedicated to his animal by checking that 1% doing everything right for his boy. And he's clearly done it from day one which is super important. Absolutely stunning example of the breed by the way
99% is the max for any dog let alone this big strong guard dog. You cannot be 100% sure in any animal because it is instinct driven. There could always be a situation when something might trigger instinctive reaction no matter how well the dog is trained.
Best owners ever, so great to see such responsibility and discipline. I own & work with mostly small & med size dogs. If I could get their owners to fairly discipline their dogs - all the dogs in our community would be better off. Kudos to Kong’s owners 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
This is a great video to watch, well done guys 🤓 As Kongs breeder, we are very proud to see this 😎. Kong looks good, is still developing of course and has a long way to go before he’s fully matured. Kongs owner is a responsible (and very nice) guy. He’s always in touch with us, keeping us up to date and regularly chatting with us about kong, his behaviour, and the best ways to continue with Kongs development. We wished more owners were like him. Nothing is too much trouble, from diet, to supplementation to training. He understands the breed that he has, he takes raising Kong seriously and he knows that being the boss with a Boerboel is super important. Kong was a puppy that we did not want to let go, bred from two of our best dogs here in the UK. To see him in these situations acting the way that he does, is a credit to his owner and his lineage. Too many Boerboels, particularly males at this age, just would not be able to be in this situation without there being issues. All other Boerboel owners should really take note of this video. Hats off to Kalen.
I saw the thumbnail and instantly thought to myself im sure this looks like shadow or bruce and then i saw ur comment! He’s growing up to be an absolute beauty 🖤🖤
Really nice dog & well placed. We need more owners like Kalen! I've worked with a Fila breeder who stopped producing puppies due to the lack of good potential owners. He got tired of taking back young dogs who needed extensive remediation. 6 months of inconsistent discipline results in an unstable dog & with big guardian breeds, it's hard to undo the damage.
Props to the owner and you as a breeder there genes and how they were whelped says tons. 👏 to both of you. He's definitely still maturing so glad owner is getting the extra help before he is fully matured. He's beautiful
you have the power and responsibility to only place dogs with people who will produce a safe, good dog who is well cared for. no “i wish”. you do your due diligence to ensure all the dogs you bring into this world go to responsible homes.
I love this owner, he’s like me with my large German shepherd. People think I am mean when I stop him from getting out of hand. But that’s being a responsible dog owner. Everyone loves your big dog but when they get rambunctious, they get on you about controlling your dog. They can’t have it both ways, you’re the owner, you are the leader. To heck with what other people think. People always think they are tough when they play with your gentle giant, but the owner knows the quirks and has to be in control at all times. Even if that means hurting someone else’s feelings. Good on this man. He’s a great dog owner. 👍 I would love Beckmann to have a week with my boy free of charge, only because I can’t afford dog training. I think my boy would respond well and become even better than he is. That’s why I watch him and try my best. Thanks 🙏
could not agree more. absolutely true. i get the "get your dog under control" quite often. and most of the time from people whos dog initiated the roughness. but instead of training their dog to not be nasty, they tell me off.
We had two Dobermans in a neighborhood with lots of kids. We spent a lot of time getting them to behave better than people do with their children. Most were impressed about walking off leash and never having issues.
It depends on what you do to stop your dogs from being to wild...are you angrily punishing them? Are you one of those owners that punish thier dog for simply playing around? Has to be a reason people think you're mean to your dog...
LOVE this owner, he has really strong control of a dog that really needs it for everyone's safety. I think with this breed, you won't ever be able to have him be "ok" with every dog and person, he's no golden retriever, but that strong guidance has clearly made him a more balanced dog that looks to the owner for direction and command, which is key. It might even be helpful for the owner to teach him guarding techniques, so the dog can have an outlet to perform the instincts that's so innate in his blood. Thank you to the owner for allowing this to be posted, and as always thank you Beckman team for the video! Also that dog is simply massive, what a beast.
I've been drug around by my share of out of control Golden's & a pair of standard poodles that were just nuts. Funny how people's perceptions control the interaction. Knocking a kid down, by even an overly friendly dog can get you sued. I wish folks took parenting & dog ownership more seriously.
@FatKidsDontRun. The big males can reach 240 lbs. A large % of their ancestry is Ancient English Mastiff. A modern English Mastiff weighed in at 342 Lbs which outweighs the heaviest recorded Tibetan Mastiff by 20 Lbs. Can you imagine; The Ancient Mastiffs may have gone to 360-80 lbs or more!!!!
Handsome Boerboel, nice movement, coat looks in great condition. And the owner is doing a great job with him, he knows the value of having a well behaved large dog.
I had a 90 lb rotti, a120 lb German shepherd. Now I have a 65 lb pitti schouser mix, and he has the biggest personality. So when he says "its not just the size, its the attitude." He's 100% right
My jaw is on the floor w/ this owner... I didn't want the video to end!!! One syllable out of this gentleman's mouth and I'm over here like "yes sir right away sir!!!" 🙂 This is a great example of how important your voice is when giving commands vs. praising or lightening the mood... With my chocolate Lab (110 lb. unneutered male), I will Disney Princess it all the live-long day to encourage or reward him (head voice, high 4th octave) - but the second he's out of line, I'm an entire baritone: quick, one syllable, glottal onset, low 2nd octave, full chest voice. Works like a charm!!! Love your channel!!! 💕 🐾
Agreed! The tone change is huge! I emulate my gpa from back when I was a kid. He has this deep af voice that gets you to listen right tf now. Worked on all of us kids back in the day and works wonderfully for my doggos too
That is such a beautiful dog and i really like that the owner assumes full responsiblity and is like "he's ok 99% of the time but i need to be able to deal with the remaining 1%" . you can always buy a big and impressive dog but you need to be able to own it. For yourself and mainly the dog!
First Kong is absolutely gorgeous! Secondly the owner is spot on. A dog that big needs to know who the Alpha in the pack is. Thanks for being that kind of owner!
He's a gorgeous dog! Very lean and fit, but sweet and respectful at the same time. He's the type of big dog who thinks he can fit in your lap, and always checks to make sure you're ok in a tug-of war XD
This is a prime example of an owner with the right personality for this type of dog. The dog respects his owner. Certain dogs you can get away with not having that type of personality because they are also mild mannered as well. But if you own an A type personality dog and you can't match it with your own that is when the problems start especially if it's a large dog.
As a former professional K-9 handler and trainer of dogs and handlers, I can appreciate Beckman's methods and his customer's desires. Great dogs!!! Love the "happy dog" voice both the trainer and owner have.
What a fine-looking beast. The guy is right on top of him. They've done a great job with this dog. He's well-balanced, obedient, and really nice to look at too.
This family is amazing! Dog and owners alike. Her "Unhuh, more patting each other on the back. Imma tune this out." Was just that bit extra funny😂. I love big dogs but I know I am too inconsistent to be a better and more responsible dog owner. That means I don't have any dog. Getting a smaller dog is not a compromise for poor dog management skills imo. I just wish more people would figure that out before they get one, not after.
Hats off to you. And you can train yourself to be consistent. I personally think, just for your ability of self-reflection, you'd be one hell of a dog-owner. You seem to be real and honest and therefore probably willing to learn. Some might disagree, but I think you should have a dog stay at your house for a while, and if all goes well, get a dog.
@@IIchicgo Aww, what a nice set of compliments. Thank you! I actually have chronic migraine (24/7/twenty seven plus days a month) and other neurological problems. So I am not really able to give a dog the outside time during daylight hours one really deserves. Currently I'm borrowing my neighbor's dog 🐕 for walks several times a week though. So I'm not entirely dogless! I hope your home is full of love and warmth with plenty of furry cuddles.
@@ivechang6720 a low energy breed could be good for you just do some serious and extensive research, you can also train them to help with your neurological and migraine issues🤝
@@BruhMoment-kk2kb That would be awesome. I still see them like children and a lot of responsibility first and always. The love though is undeniable. 🥰🐕
Huge shoutout to this owner for stepping up and training his dog to be a good citizen. I see so many owners nowadays that just are not attentive to this crucial detail that is ruining the lives of thier animal and other people.
These owners are amazing examples of GOOD owners of "aggressive" breeds! Love your vids, from Malaysia! Just thought Joel would be happy to know that his videos get worldwide attention.
The owners of Kong are about their business and handle him very well. You cannot take any chances with such a big dog, and they do well to make sure that he follows their lead and not the other way around. Also, the bass in the owner's voice had me shook lol "Yes sir!"
He's such a good boy, he really wants to please. A dogo that really wants to make you happy, you already have half the battle won. It's just down to communicating what you want from them. He is just such a good happy boy. I love seeing that.
This guy really does have “IT”! One of the few people that i feel like can handle a big powerful dog like that. Most of the people with those kind of dogs are *not* capable.
I love seeing strong breeds that aren't overweight! I think kong problem has issues with other disrespectful dogs. Prince came at him respectfully so there wasn't an issue but I'm sure another reactive dog could probably set him off. Some males do not appreciate being disrespected.
What a stunning dog and mad props to the owners for the level of respect they show to other dogs/owners as well as wanting the best for their good boy. Also, definitely 100% appreciate the comments about not allowing people making inappropriate comments. The mere fact that people are looking for help with their dogs (or whatever it is in life people are reaching out for help with) shows that they have a desire to learn, improve and get better. Can't fault that in the slightest.
I owned a female Boerboel that I trained with hand signals and of course voice commands. She was perfect off leash when I was around. Unfortunately, no one else could control her she went into protection mode. If I was not home she was in charge. I got mine from S.Africa no vaccines and ate goat & chickens really freaked my vet out when I brought her in. I got her in 2009 she passed in 2019. Best dog ever!
This is amazing! I have an unneutered male cane corso and he keeps me on my toes, I do not let him get away with anything! There is absolutely no room for mistakes with these big strong breeds.
the first time i have heard this owner speak and it put a smile on my face, it really was just a case of like "yea like i just dont like that behaviour and i want it changed" like the owner knows what they want, what is best, and they are actually trying to change it for the good of everyone, what a great guy !
THAT is the most magnificent dog I have ever seen!!!! I have watched and learnt a great deal from your channel as a 100 pound female and breeds XL American bullies here in Australia and on my own ,I have needed many of you videos not to toughen up as I take no rubbish from my dogs but been a female they feel the need to protect me so the POP works wonders and also I train my puppies before they go to there new homes and after they go with many of what I have learnt on here and I have full control over my dogs thank you David 🙏
Even though there were no fireworks, this was an extremely interesting session. That is one super dog and careful owner. I think I've got a part-boerbull so any reactivity work with such dogs is v valuable to me. Thanks to ALL.
That boerboel is one of the most insanely incredibly beautiful dogs I have ever seen 😍 I love boerboels. Plenty of them in South Africa ❤ they can be the biggest gentle giants. This owner is doing so well
This is the type of person who is supposed to own a dog like this! I wish more people would consider their own natural aptitudes, commitment, and discipline style before choosing a dog!
Love this! Always enjoy seeing & hearing Joel’s evaluations & observations. So refreshing to see clients that want more for their dogs & for themselves.
I was once the proud owner of a Perro de Presa Canario. Taking care of such a huge animal is a major undertaking. As long as I was calm, he was calm, and even when I was agitated he remained by my side. He never lunged, he never broke free of me. He was an amazing animal. He was attacked so many times, verbally by people and physically by other dogs. He provoked fear and awe in equal measure. So it was down to myself to break the ice and prove his worth. And he was always happy to help me by giving me a kiss. Or just sitting and doing as he's told... On an extra note, was beautiful to see that Beorboel without clipped ears and a tail.
What a big and beautiful dog. He’s wonderful dog owner. I hope to be as wonderful with my dogs. We are struggling with reactivity and animal aggression.
Wow thats a really big dog and he looks in very good shape!! To be honest i fall absolutly in Love!!! Great and nice Owner too. But dont forget Prince i like his attitude and he is doing an absolute awesome job all the Time 👍👍👍
Absolutely nuts seeing two entire males greet each other like that with no real issues. Prince is such a great dog, I reckon he fully understands what his job is.
The evidence in the work he's done as an amazing owner is how he minds on leash. The dog is so well mannered just from the leash behavior. I'm really happy you tuned this puppy up to make him perfect
I think the dogs owner is doing a great job and he's serious about giving his dog the best life especially how big of a breed he is. The one thing I noticed that the trainer also pointed out is to also reward the dog not just punish and control with fear. Remember dogs always want to please their owners and they love affection as a reward!
