It's relatively recent that the area has become somewhat know for the massive wave explosion show. Also, an event, such as the one shown in the video, only happens about 5 times a year. Last year there were only a couple days of high surf producing the massive explosions

The exploding waves at Shore Acres are quite a sight! Mother Nature showing off! Unfortunately she only performs about 5 or 6 times a year. Whenever we hear an event is likely we drop what we are doing and head to Shore Acres.

Where we were standing was 130’ above the above ocean well back from the “danger zone.” However, the wind changed at just the right time and we got a free shower!

Where do you live? What is shown in the video only happens about 5 or 6 times a year. Whenever, I hear that an event may happen, I literally drop what I am doing and rush to the coast! It literally takes air out of your lungs when you see what Mother Nature can do in a no destructive manner!

This is something you just have to see to really believe. Are you from the area?

@@Seracdog Im actually 3 - 4 hrs away. I live in the Yakima Valley. I LOVE the ocean. My boyfriend and I usually visit Lincoln City for a few days during the summer. Just there this last one. But I have never heard of the King tide. After seeing some of the videos, I told him he has to take me!!

It doesn't take a King Tide to produce the wave explosions at Shore Acres. In fact, a King Tide often reduces the waves!. Also, it doesn't take a storm to produce the waves. You probably noticed in the videos a lot of blue sky! So, you ask when do the waves appear? The answer is generally in the Winter when Mother Nature decides to put on another show! It can be many times during the winter or just a few! But, often we are "tipped off" when a show may be coming. There is website... surf-forecast.com that predicts wave heights at surf locations all around the world. It will forecast wave heights several days in advance. So, when I see the right "numbers" I literally drop what I am doing and head to Shore Acres. And the right numbers are 18'+ with a wave period of greater than 15 seconds. So, if you are really interested in seeing one of the most spectacular shows Mother Nature puts on go to that website, enter Oregon South & Bastendorf Beach and watch for the numbers I mentioned previously. And maybe I will see you there sometime!

Ive been down there numerous times dont remember this one? But this event takes place all down the coast? So many questions sorry😉

@@homelife23 The event, like shown in the video, ONLY happens at Shore Acres State Park which is near Coos Bay, a healthy 3 hour drive down the coast from Lincoln City. Should you decide to come down at some point, the quickest route is to take I-5 past Eugene and then head towards Reedsport

As you know from your past experience the Oregon Coast is a special place. If you have time, I suggest you drive the central part down to Brookings. It is incredibly scenic and quite different tenth Northern section.

No worries, i know your grabbing life by the balls & rocking thru life. So how is your life? I thought you were doing Europe soon? My whole family just left for Mexico & i've got the whole house to myself for a week. Stayed behind to care for our blind dog. Couldn't leave her to only to have strangers care for her! She's out playing with the neighbors dogs right now. So 'm Listening to everything rock n' roll i can blast out the speakers of the flat screen! I'm taking a vacation when they come back. I think your ocean & nature videos has me convinced to come see the Pacific ocean for the first time. Winter looks to be the best for those rock n roll waves!

Last week we went to a couple concerts... Weezer and Dierks Bentley. Both very good! In a couple weeks we are off to Iceland for yet another adventure packed trip. Just hoping the weather cooperates! A couple weeks ago, we were within a few days of booking a short trip to Maui for the end of October for a little sun and watching the always hilarious "adult" Halloween celebration in Lahaina. Needless to say, there will be no Maui trip for us this year! We have been there many, many times and Maui has always kind of been like a second home. Watching the area go up in flames was a crushing blow to us. We have many friends who have places (or had places) in Maui. We are still in shock!

Thank you for your comment. Both coasts are beautiful in their own way. However, since all of Oregon's beaches are free from private ownership one gets to see way more in Oregon.

@@Seracdog Northern California coasts don't look as wild and primal as this. Oregon's coastline has sneaker waves and monster waves hitting cliffsides, like a mix of Iceland and Hawai'i.

@@Seracdog well, that's right, Mother Nature is the true artist.... Have you been to Garmisch? As a US-soldier maybe? For me: I love the US: the wide landscapes, the red canyons, the woods and mountains, the sea-shores, the rugged terrains, the deserts, the prestine lakes, the national parks and so on! And, of course, the always friendly and helpful people I met as a college-student and a traveller.... :-) So I can't wait to be allowed to enter the US sometime soon.....

@@bernhardmeiners238 I have been to Garmisch a couple times once on a business trip we drove through the town and took the aerial tramway to the Zugspitze. A second trip was for skiing! I have spent considerable time in Europe on business trips and for pleasure. The videos I created of our trips to Europe are a bit too personal to post on RU-vid. LSS, I am not into making the videos about me! Europe is unmatched for its deep history. And, we (U.S.) are really still just beginning! You certainly nailed the description of the United States! Hope things clear soon and if you ever make it to the Pacific Coat in the U.S. please give me shout!

Thank you so much and you have a great holiday as well. Re. Shore Acres vids... it solely depends on Mother Nature and she only "performs" about 5-7 times a Winter. Generally, we are given about 7 days notice. If we hear big surf is on the way we literally drop what we are doing and head over to the coast for the show!

Yes! I saw your vids! Shores Acres has a unique ocean bottom that cause the explosions. I have three other vids up on RU-vid from previous trips. It was literally by chance a few years that I happened to visit the area for another purpose and it just so happened that Mother Nature was putting on a jaw dropping show! LSS, I am hooked! There is a website I periodically check for wave action. Large waves, as you probably known, are often not caused by a storm. If I see that some large waves are headed towards Shore Acres I drop what I am doing and drive 4 hours to see the show. It's worth it!

@@Seracdog Yes, I saw your other vids too! It's amazing. Here in Sonoma County there are a number of areas that are conducive to shorebreakers which I love. Sometimes the wave literally explodes after it crashes, my presumption is it is caused by the air trapped inside the barrel once it falls. I usually go to the national data buoy center site to check on current and projected swell heights, etc. (ndbc dotcom). Happy to say that I only live 13 miles from the coast. I live for seeing stuff like this! On Dec. 8, I spent five hours watching. Let's hope we get more large swell trains soon!!! Keep those videos a comin'!

@@MuscleMaxZ1 The website I access is surf-forecast.com. You simply put in the area that is closeto you. In my case, for shore Acres, I enter Oregon South and Bastendorff Beach. Wave heights of 18' with good wave energy (20,000+) get my attention! My most recent vid was shot on Dec.7. I know that the area have big surf the following day (8th) as well. I am sure the waves we had were part of the same action you had...

Shore Acres (where the video was shot) is an Oregon state park near the town of Coos Bay. Contrary to what most think it does not take a storm to produce the large waves. Most large wave events occur during the Winter. It generally takes 18'+ waves to generate the huge explosions featured in the video. How often the large wave events happens is in the hands of Mother Nature! If a High Surf Advisory is issued for the Coos Bay area by NOAA it generally means there will be a show at Shore Acres!

There is an excellent website called surf-forecast.com that tracks wave activity all around the world that we use for tacking waves in Oregon. For Shore Acres put in Oregon South and then Bastendorf Beach. For the big explosions wave heights need to be 18'+ with a period of at least 15 seconds...

All those are great artists! My band during that time was Dire Straits. Recently we completed a short 5 day trip in Iceland with a local guide who took us to off the beaten track gems. He was outstanding and the fact that his favorite band was Dire Straits made everything better! At the end of next week, we are headed to The Wave, which is technically in Arizona but one starts hiking in Utah to reach the area. 6 mile roundtrip! This will be our fourth trip into The Wave. LSS, the area is managed by the BLM who restricts access to the area. You gotta get a permit to enter the area and permits are hard to come by.
