Classic Album, Masta Ace was able to infuse east coast and west coast music together in a way nobody has been able to duplicate or even come close to. He's under rated but is a legend in the 90's underground world. East coast were west coast haters in the 90's but ended up copying their swag, style and gangster culture down to this very day but Masta Ace had the guts to go where nobody went in the 90's with his infused new sound.

That's a fact! I'm from the West Coast, and I didn't realize he was from Brooklyn til I was an adult. Crazy crossover value. I used to play this album every day in middle school. One of the first albums I can remember buying with my own money.

@@rootsmcduck4339 Slaughterhouse is a classic, not sure up there with Illmatic/36 Chambers, etc., but he's a beast and the Marco Polo album he put out last year was just as good as Disposable Arts, Sittin On Chrome, etc. Truly one of the most slept on MCs to casual rap fans.

@@JohnSmith-iq9ot it won't make that list with a lot of people but it was a staple album for me, it just had a rawness to it, the horns in it etc , he just painted such a vivid picture in it, I'll always rate it highly, controversially..I never really bothered with tupac or biggie yet they're cerrones top artists

He's from Brooklyn N.Y. and he gave the game n culture timeless music as well as expansion. He didn't sound like a typical east coast or new york m.c. What that means is when you're a real m.c. you can do whatever you feel this album n songs are relevant till this day... Facts!!!

I had sort of forgotten about Masta Ace but I love his music. As a kid I thought he was from the west coast cause The INC Ride and Check it out were so G Funk influenced. I'm going over his discography at the moment and I'm really seeing his stamp on the game. He influenced Eminem who in turn influenced many more. The same way Rakim influenced Nas and so on. I love hip hop culture and music. People today don't understand that it's more than just music. For example, people buy all the latest clothes and shoes but hip hop was about how wore things. You know, fat laces, pants baggy or like Kris Kross did backwards jeans. That was hip hop. This shit is just industry.

I was in Cali when this came out (still am) and we were fuckin with this album HEAVY. I remember listening to this when I was 8 year's old for the first time back in 97(I know it came out in 95), I had no idea who masta ace was but the beat and the lyrics mashed together perfectly. I alway's assumed whoever the person was who made the song was from cali based on the sound. Now reflecting back on everything I'm even more impressed that Ace was from New York making a "west coast sound" song due to the whole east vs west "beef" back in the day.

Real talk - very few tracks have that b-boy combination of sub-bass on blast, dope lyrics, punchlines and delivery with melody. Was banging ACE hard while at University in Manchester (UK) in 93/94 and still gets heavy rotation when I need to get amped. Not being from the US was a blessing because I took music at face value only, skills and beats - all the other fake stuff was trashed - east/west was clearly a gimmick from the start. Looking back - I put born to roll in my top 5 hip\hop videos of all time - alongside Planet Rock - Bambaataa/ Pharcyde-Drop/Digable Planets - 9th Wonder / Racionais MC's - Vida Loka pt 2

It was wild because the Slaughtahouse album was hardcore Brooklyn…but Sittin on Chrome was less regional and incorporated a west coast vibe At the time it was such a drastic shift in style for people that wanted him to stick to the strict east coast style but you can’t deny how good the music was He adopted a sound that wasn’t typical NYC first…Cash Money Click with Ja Rule did it second…Biggie did it next…Cam’ron and Dipset did it after…and now tons of NY rappers sound like they’re from the south or Midwest
