It sounds like those MP3 files may be corrupted or encoded in a format Audacity does not support.

Thanks mate. Just a question though. Why would you edit a sound file with audacity? I mean the only use case i can think of is music, but I believe you would use something more sophisticated for that. Otherwise audio for videos is mostly handled in the video editor too right?

There really is no substitute for proper recording I'm afraid. We can always work with what we have but we can't work with what we don't have unfortunately.

hi Mike. great tutorial, one of the better videos ive seen. im an Audacity newbee and a recorder player (what some call a block flute). id like to enhance the audio of videos of my playing. ive figured out how to modify the audio from a recorded video with Audacity. is there any way to get the modified audio paired with the original video so i could upload to youtube? i cant seem to find any information on this and you seem to be about the best source of info i can find on Audacity. any help would be appreciated. (from Herb)

Hi Herb, to pair your edited audio with your original video in Audacity for RU-vid upload, you'll need to export the audio file separately and then re-import it as an audio track during the video editing process in a video editor like Adobe Premiere Pro or OBS Studio. It is possible from this spectrum.txt file, make another rec and apply this preset? i have the final rec in wav (very very good), but i don't remember all steps performed. Your editing guide is very good. I have a problem: playback, the sound bar is moving, cant get any sound. Setting up it's the MacBook speaker, Rescanned Audio Devices, still no sound. Can you help?

I'd recommend checking your MacBook's audio settings to ensure Audacity is set to the correct output device, and also try restarting both Audacity and your MacBook to see if that resolves the playback issue with the sound bar moving but no sound. Hope this helps!

Removing a bit of 8 kHz can reduce sibilance and harshness for a smoother, warmer vocal tone.

Hi Mike 👋 I could use a little help l've been using audacity for most of my jobs and the audio I recorded has always been clear. l've recently I upgraded my laptop and re-downloaded audacity on the new laptop I quickly noticed that when I record my voice using THE SAME equipment l've BEEN using for all my jobs is now sounding grainy and sounds as if being recorded through a phone. I'm not sure how to fix it and was wondering if you or anyone can please help, it seems like it would be such a simple fix but I'm stumped

Brother, I hope you read all my comments I tried to start creating content with voiceover, and I bought a Boya M1 microphone and tried recording and editing audio with Audacity, but I did not reach the desired result that I see with other RU-vidrs. I also applied many explanations on RU-vid, but with no result. My question is, can I really achieve what I want to achieve with Boya M1 and Audacity, or should I give up and accept the fait accompli? Thank you

Audacity's interface might have slight changes over versions. You can still edit without it. Just ensure you're using the correct rate when exporting.

@MikeRussell I use Audacity to teach English with. As an alternative, I could just stop the recording where my students made a mistake and reset the controls so I can record myself. I could split the recording and record myself at that point, making a correction. However, I don't know how to cut the recording, widen the area, and record myself in the space I made. Can you explain how I can do this?

To get sound into Audacity, simply go to "Edit" and select "Preferences," then choose your desired recording device under the "Devices" tab, and hit record when you're ready to capture your audio!
