Who ever wrote the script probably didn’t want to have someone screw up the lines he came up with, so he just read the whole thing and changed the pitch of the voices and assumed it was fine.

Based on my experience of showing this movie to different people and getting VERY different reactions, I now think this is one of the most divisive funny movies of all time. If you don't have a heavy appreciation of the absurd and a love for the unexpected as key elements of your sense of humor, you won't get this movie and it just comes across as "stupid." If you do have those things, though, it's the funniest thing ever made.

I saw this movie first day it came out, i was 11...and from that Moment forward, i walked and sometimes drove...and occasionally, partied with the desert animals...
