I do Renaissance festivals a lot, and there IS actually a way to challenge the king. You just have to be very formal about it. And also owning a sword is a good start. You throw a gauntlet at their feet, say you challenge them, and they will often oblige, giving you a decent fight. However, I'm a HEMA instructor so I usually win ;)

I was so happy when I went to the Kansas City Renaissance Festival that day. Chief made my day and I got to take a picture with him. I thought he looked familiar because I only saw a couple of their videos. Also at 7:13 of this video on the bottom right of the screen is me in my Assassin's Creed Black Flag Edward Kenway costume along with my Dad and two brother, Joshua and Matthew. Again thanks to the Chief for letting me take a picture with him and for making my day.

I don't see why anyone would be seriously mad in that, I've been in amogst this sor tof stuff & the most hilarious stitch giving best parts are when things fuck up, or when something ridiculously extraordinary happens like this. Like Master Chief jumping up on stage with them, & then getting kicked out, it's all in good fun, perhaps America is just different like that, I mean, if that did not go down well over here, people break character so it's just plain an obvious, if we stay in character, everything's all good.

It's not merely on a stage, he slipped into the performer parade to enter an arena that is fenced off and off limits to guests of the festival at all times, touched the real weapons owned by the contracted jousters (without asking, they were not even present yet at this 1pm time) kept filming and put the footage IN of the performer asking them off. It's extremely rude and offputting behavior, one person taking an inch past what's appropriate makes the festival close off another twelve for guests in the future. We're all here to play, but we gotta know how to play nice.

@@Mintfae They acknowledge that they were in the wrong. I think it's unreasonable to antagonize them so much for what seems like an understandable mistake. They got too sucked up in the fun and they weren't given a serious warning. There was reasonable doubt for them to assume that they didn't mind, especially since they managed to interact just fine before the guy suddenly yelled at him. It is pretty toxic and pretty much nullifies any possible future positive relationship between them and the carnival.

The parade is lined with area managers holding their arms out and telling guests to make way for the parade/stay out of the arena entrance, literally in frame at 4:05. An apology/ask for forgiveness instead of permission is a bad look. It actively makes other peoples days (other guests and performers) worse when people can’t follow some basic expectations. It’s embarrassing for you to apologize this.

@@Mintfae Your idea of "basic expectations" needs to be nuanced; depending on their experiences, such as hypothetically doing something similar in the past and everyone having enjoyed it, they may have thought it was acceptable. There was no harm done here. He did something that made the guy upset, and the guy didn't handle the situation in the best possible way. It is a dated kind of thinking to think this type of response is acceptable, but it's understandable since it's in Kansas.

As a born and raised Kansan I am so sad that I missed Chief at the KC Ren Fest. PLEASE come back next year! My son and I would love to see you there. Loved this episode an extra lot for all the love that was shown to our Ren Fest 🙌👏
