I'm surprised it took this long to see an opponent going hail mary with their Queen and that it occurred at this level of play. I'm at 600-700 and I would say turn 2 queens make up 40-50% of the games that I encounter. It is because these players get rewarded frequently enough with blunders, so they keep doing it and never improve.

Hikaru and Levy did put various variations of the Advanced Caro Kann in the garbage tier list for, and this is important, beginner players 800-1300. However they put one variation of it in unbreakable so the short and the long of is the Caro Kann good is "it depends" (on a number of factors including player level).

12:23 One thing I was taught as a beginner (whether it's correct or not I don't know) was not to make moves that help your opponent develop, which is one reason I'd be hesitant to play Bg4 here. Should that influence my play in a situation like this?
@DanielFace11
@DanielFace11 3 года назад
I realize this is super late, but Bg4 does not help white’s development. The queen is unable to retake because the bishop is guarded by the knight on f6. The move pawn f3 blocks the development of white’s g knight.

about provoking f3 with the bishop, I understand what you mean about provoking weakness, I think the problem with me anyways is seeing why f3 is a weakness. I think that is a high level concept. You say it's a weakness and I have no idea what you're talking about lol. I know it's a weakness when the king has castled, but I don't know the rules about beforehand.

Whats really hard to grasp for me is not how good GMs are in chess, its not even the fact that they can calculate 10 or 20 moves ahead, its not their knowledge of the game either, whats amazing to me is how they're so relaxed with couple minutes on the clock, and yes i understand that since they're used in playing 1minute chess having 3-4 minutes must feel like a lifetime, especially against a much lower rated player, but its just amazing to me, when i consider that something like 6-7 out of 10 games i lose, are due to time when i have a winning position. Their speed on decision making is something i cant wrap my head around.

Yeah, Ive heard the opinion "openings teach openings; endgames teach chess" many times. I get where they are coming from, but in online rapid/blitz on the beginner levels, you barely even get to proper endgames! The game is decided either quite early, or even if it gets to an endgame one side likely has a huge advantage by that point. So I feel like openings and tactics are the two crucial things in this case. However, at some point you definitely have to start focusing on endgames, calculation skills and deeper positional concepts, as well. Maybe starting early with those can be advantageous, and I get that people may be scared that beginners will just memorize some tricky lines, get quick wins that way but never actually obtain a real understanding of the game.

Frankfurt airport is a big hub, it's an ugly place you have to go through to go to your nice destination
@peffiSC2source
@peffiSC2source 3 года назад
@@dipa313 Never understood the hate for Frankfurt airport tbh. Feels like more of a meme. I live close to the airport, have been there many times. Yes, it's big and that can be confusing, but that's true for many airports. I definitely don't think ti's ugly though. It's functional and an airport. Sure, it's no Changi Airport, but it's mostly clean and you can find anything you need there. Off the top of my head Heathrow Airport is an absolute nightmare (especially Terminal 3), to the point where Frankfurt airport looks like an actual holiday destination by comparison. Most former Soviet airports are also awful to look at and if you are around during tourist season you'll find the worst passengers in the world there and often you aren't sure whether security procedures actually get taken seriously. Charles de Gaulle airport is also terrible and Denver International Airport is probably literally cursed by that blue horse statue in front of it. Might look like petty local patriotism for an airport on my end, but imo Frankfurt gets a bad rep for no reason. And it's a self-fulfilling prophecy too because people arrive there with the pre-conception that everything there is bad, so the second they don't feel respected enough or are inconvenienced somehow, it affirms their bias. Way back when I was younger, I had an internship at one of the organizations in the airport and my then boss showed me a binder of the "funniest" complaints from passengers. Ranging from tourists calling Germany a N*zi state for following security procedure to tourists saying they will never fly through Germany again because the police at customs didn't smile back at them. All I ever hear about the airport are complaints but I never had any problems there. If you know where to go and follow the rules, you can speedrun to the gate in half an hour without saying a word.
