Teacher can I ask you a question. what is the most general essay/common essay that teachers start teaching. I mean, they obviously teach about introduction/thesis statement , body and conclusion. But what is the name of the most common essay that they start teaching ? Thanks .
We usually just refer to it as the 5-paragraph essay. We usually start with how to write a good paragraph with 3 supporting reasons and then show them that they can change that paragraph into a whole essay by taking those 3 reasons and creating a body paragraph for each one. When we first introduce this type of essay, we start with an easy prompt like Do you prefer to live in a big city or small town? Why? We usually start with a narrative essay or cause/effect (discussing reasons).

Great question. Most essays have that structure: Introduction paragraph w/ hook, background, and thesis statement Body paragraphs that support the thesis statement Conclusion paragraph There are a few exceptions. For example, right now I am teaching my students how to write a summary & response essay, which is a bit different, but that is like an exception. Almost all essays follow the structure you mentioned.
