This is a review for the master grade gundam model kit, Full Armor Gundam ver KA (Gundam Thunderbolt) from the movie/OVA Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt December Sky.
I Always love the "One more thing" segments. They're campy and wonderful and I'm glad that you do them. Also props for droppin' Titus in there. Always great to see that gundam's shining face..... and shoulders... massive, ridiculous, wonderful shoulders.
Something you didn't mention in the video is how the sub arms have a locking mechanism to keep them extended. The beam saber holders on the side of the backpack are designed so that when pushed in they hold up the arms and prevent them from falling back in.
I like it when they have the clear piece that represents the forehead and back camera...the clear piping...goes all the way through and has clear on both the front and back. That's very cool the yellow comes in that color for the eyes. Normally MGs would have it in a clear or a colored clear piece.
Hey there Jabman025, I always enjoyed & loved your informative reviews ... (especially those build offs you have with "vegeta8259") Since you mentioned the FA Gundam Thunderbolt is the new leader in Master Grade Kit of the Year 2016, surely this must means that Bandai is giving us MG fans a better kit each time they release a new kit (or lack thereof???). Hence this lead to my following questions, 1) the MG Freedom 2.0 is an overall solid, good looking, highly detail & especially a really really good poser kit. How good is the articulation of the FA Gundam once fully loaded with its armor? (since it's not mentioned in your video this time round). Would you say this is slightly a brick kit? 2) seeing the huge difference in price between MG Freedom 2.0 to MG FA Gundam, which would you say is "Better" in terms of Value? Thanks for answering my questions and most of all thanks for continuing on your truly great Gundam Review (loved your unique "oh and the...1 more thing!!!) keep up your Good Work ... Cheers!!!
I snapped the shoulder joint in the arm when I was plugging it into the body because I wasn't sure if it was keyed in all the way..the vinyl actually saved my life because that's all that keeping the arm together lol
Love your videos, my go to for gunpla reviews for sure. Okay so i dont know if you will be able to answer this but im am trying to decide between this kit and the MG Sazabi Ver. Ka. Anything you can tell me to help me make up my mind? Which is your favorite between the two?
This was my first ever Master Grade...and honestly my first GunPla, like, ever. I wonder if I should have started with something SIMPLER... That being said I got it to work pretty good, only problem I really have is one of the shoulders. Other than that it fits real nice. (Also yes, the action stand? WILL NOT HOLD. The one they send with it is just too flimsy. Mine broke)
i just recently built this kit and for me the vinyl sleeves were a huge pain in the butt. they really didn't give me a whole lot of grief per say, but they deffinately were a little tedious and annoying to work with. did you have any issues with the armor pieces that you sandwich around it pinching the vinyl sleeve? i had that issue quite alot. perhaps i wasn't doing it all 100% correctly, but at the end of the day it all worked out and it still looks good. also, did you have any issue with the connection of the arm into the torso? i tried putting both in and on one of them, the little tab or whatever broke off, but it still worked, and on the other arm i had the peg completely snap on me. i actually had to wait a week or so until i got a chance to go out and buy some stuff like brass rodding to fix it.
This thing is like the Godzilla of the RX series. I just don't have the patience to build a kit like this, so all the props to Jabman for showing people like me all the epicness.
Other people have had the full armor stand up by itself. Maybe it's something with the surface you're trying to stand it on? I'm sure if you put on the cannons and shields on the front arms along with the backpack it might probably throw the center of mass back forward enough that it could stand. Of course I don't know for sure because I'm not rich enough to build another ver ka for a while after the Hi-Nu.
@ Jabman025 Any extra advice for the vinyl wrap on the joints? For ex. i see that white circular part at the elbow is able to grip on to the frame through that wrap? im doing my hw so that when i build this i avoid messing anything up. i want to give it the character of the wrap on the joints. If you see this and reply i'll appreciate it greatly thanks!
It was funny because i accidentally fell asleep at the end, and when you said "Non-stop Electric J-Pop" i tripped out because i could hear it in my sleep xD
Jabman, I have a trouble with the vynal sleeves. I seem to have a trouble with them locking into those little notches, and it frustrates me to no end. Any tips?
Great review! I'm looking to build my first MG, I've built 5 HG's and I think I've got those down good. So do you think this would be a good kit for me or should I keep looking?
I use jab's style of applying dry transfers and its easy cause of the tape it's easy to fix but with water slide I get that I have bad luck like too much water on the decal and disappears from thin air why you try to sponge the water or it tears from just tearing when you apply it even though you have a delicate and calm touch like a bomb squad member
@@AverageRomanceEnjoyer in wich case... #1 make sure the part is clean, no need to wash all the kit but do wipe the specific part with some water #2 smooth surface, and it will do half the job for you so either use some smooth topcoat or some polishing compound. #3 to dry up the decal, *ROLL* a qtip on it *WITHOUT APPLIYNG PRESSURE TO IT* . this should set it in place. #4 seal immediately. Waterslides are easy to rub off, so use your flat coat as soon as you're finished to be sure of avoiding any accidents
I like the vinyl, gives a nice dustrproofing look, seems appropriate. I actually really didn't like Thunderbolt designs outside of the gundam itself, and still am not totally sold on them or anything, but I am glad for its fans that it is getting some love. this is a rare case of if I do get this mobile suit, it might be as a MG since I do not care about getting more of its line to pose it with, something HGs are always likely to win out on, both for price and having more available designs than MG ever will
Hi Jabman. Would appreciate your input with this: So, I've built a bunch of HGs, a few RGs, and a couple of 1/100 NGs. Now, I've got my MG Deathscythe Hell and it has remained in the box for about a month now. Question is, is my experience enough to build it well? Or would you recommend starting off with a more beginner friendly MG? If it's the latter, which one would you recommend? Thanks in advance and sorry for bombarding you with questions. :D
i built the hg of this kit, ive had my eye on the master grade for some time, how do the arms hold up ( the ones holding the shield) and have the regular arms over time started to fail holding the weapons ?
There’s the super glue method where you add a drop, put the joint together, move it around to cover the whole joint then take it apart before it dries and let it cure before assembling it again or topcoat the part so its thicker
Rk Brillant its pretty simple build than how it looks actually, i thought im just making a huge hg but its a different exp compare to other mg’s..u just need to learn how to apply the garbage plastic to its joints and as well as the waterslide decals. Like jabman said, its a long build so take a break from time to time
Is it true that the shoulders pegs notoriously breaking prone, since they have some kind of small tabs on them? Any suggestions to insert them properly? Thank you.
I got this kit and I've never done waterslides before, what all should I need? Sorry for the noob question, I've got cue tips, a hobby knife, a dish for the water and tweezers right now. Will I absolutely need setter or softer or whatever? Thanks!
there a many good examples but in my opinion the sinanju has best pinstripe decals, those white lines really add something the the kit doesn't look correct without them
I fucked up the shoulder joints on mine. Both of them. Probably shouldn't have taken this guy as my first model to ever build lmao. Oh yeah I also screwed up the right thumb
Dat Boi Kipzs My first kit when changing grades is an OG 78-2. I cut the cockpit pegs for the core fighter off accidentally (don't build in low light conditions) other then that the build went fine.
I really like the look of the joint. But I'm scared shitless that I'm going to rip it or screw it up. Its the only thing keeping me from getting this and the psycho zaku (Which sucks because BOY DO I LOVE THE PSYCHO ZAKU)
I personally haven't got this Gundam yet, but I did get the Nu Gundam ver ka, and it's one heck of a great kit. The psycho frame's a bit pointless and annoying to get in, but if you want to display it you have the option and I just really can't say enough good about it. The beam saber's great, the hidden extra saber works way better than it originally felt like it would, the shield is probably one of the best Gundam Shields I've ever seen because it clicks on securely and it's light enough that it never becomes a problem, and the clear stand it comes with displays the Funnels beautifully! The thing just looks super sick and has lots of great details and I love it. Only problem is that the Funnels don't like to stay in wing mode very well and I had a lot of trouble trying to keep them from bending out of a straight shape because of how vague the wing instructions are. But you're probably not going to pass up the flying Funnel look, anyways.... Also the backpack connection for the Bazooka's not great, but it's better than the connections stuff like the Gundam 3.0 and Zaku II 2.0 had for their heavy weapons, so fair enough. That being said, Nu Gundam doesn't have nearly as many giant guns and extra armor pieces and shields and just sheer weapons and shields that this thing does, so just go with whichever one you think looks cooler because you're going to need to rely on a stand and deal with some issues either way.
The Unicorn. Even without the NT-D, I-fields protect against those beam cannons and it possesses unparalleled maneuverability in comparison to the Thunderbolt.
Unicorn, its not even a contest. Hell, the unicorn wouldn't even need to be full armored at all. Seriously, you're vastly underestimating how broken a full psycho frame MS is. And this is ignoring the fact that its better armed, faster and has more advanced armor.
Umm... did you get a different model version of the kit? all that red is supposed to be a dark purple. I know as I have the kit when it came out & I also saw the movie
I am 120% sure sd gundam doesnt hold up now. But you net your ass I loved the shit out of the show when I was 5 and it was new. Iirc it was right after wing finished on toonami. Shit has a baller transformation sequence. I guess what I really mean is I want a knight gundam redesigned as a mg kit
GodDAMN. That is a lot of plastic, sucks about the Hands too. I don't know Jab, I made it through the Sazabi Ver Ka, I made it through Nu Ver Ka, how would you rate Thunderbolt Ver Ka alongside those in terms of plastic volume?
