I use the multiple choice option, and consider my use of Clozemaster to be an input-based approach. It's not about recall, but recognition and comprehension. If I see the same word multiple times, I learn to recognize that word in context. It helps build passive vocabulary and works well with an input-first approach.

You can also make it much more challenging by NOT doing multiple choice. After a few days of using Clozemaster for Greek, I stopped that and started using the TRANSCRIBE option. So much more challenging!

Happy to see this video. I've been using Clozemaster to help me learn German for over 2 years now. Very good app overall, but I wish it would also incorporate some pictures and/or videos rather than just having a robot voice read lines of text in monotone.

would be cool if it were more like memrise
@chsovi7164
@chsovi7164 Год назад
One of the great things about memrise is that there's so many courses that teach you vocab based on other materials, like I'm doing a memrise course that teaches how words from a russian copy harry potter and the philosopher's stone, and another that teaches words from the duolingo russian course. Both of these things give context, and it makes it a lot easier to learn

I also had the same experience with Thai, alongside using Clozemaster and doing other things, I'm able to get the gist of news articles now when I read them. Plus, being immersed in Thai while living in Bangkok is an addition.

I actually had the exact same experience with remembering the months in Thai. I just could not get them to stick for some reason! Glad I'm not alone in that lol. I've recently been using a website called lingopolo to study & remember them. I already use clozemaster, so I wouldn't mind adding it to my routine to help me better remember the months, as well.

Ive been doing it for a month after 6 months of learning Greek. Every now and then I will get a word wrong but for the most part its too easy. I have only been doing the multiple choice ones though. Im sure it will get harder though.

I learn 3 languages but for english it's too easy and for croatian it's way too hard for me. I can kind of use it for french but that's it. I don't think I like it, eventhough I appreciate it has lots of languages like croatian which is quite hard to find resources for.

I love Clozemaster and I pay for it. However, it must be pointed out that not all languages are created equally in Clozemaster. Also, they are all in some stage of beta. Cloze is only as good as you the user makes it. That means you have to flag some of their mistakes, and go into Tatoeba on your own and change stuff yourself if you really want to improve a particular language for the app. If you (Aaron) go and check out one of your other languages that you speak on Clozemaster (French, Spanish, Esperanto, etc), you will see that they have more features than Thai has. One feature is that you can focus on the most frequently used 100 words. Another feature is that you can type in the answer instead of using multiple choice. Maybe you need to do a Clozemaster 2 video in order to really do it justice. ;-) (I'm available for an audio/video chat if you want to see more of the hacks I have discovered. Oh, and I am currently the all-time leader in toki pona.)
@FingtamLanguages
@FingtamLanguages 3 года назад
Hey that is awesome! Yes I know that there is the option to type in the words, but I never used it because it seems like for learning vocabulary that would not be very useful. I do wish they had collections of just the most common words in Thai.

On the more popular languages you can choose the most frequently used 100 words. If you don't mind making a few mistakes at the start, it gets more comfortable after a few rounds. It is more like learning from immersion than from being in a classroom where you learn by taking baby steps. Clozemaster just pushes you into the pool.
@nandoflorestan
@nandoflorestan Год назад
The first thing Clozemaster tells you is that it is for someone who knows the basics of the language and wants to acquire vocabulary quickly.
@AzureViking
@AzureViking Год назад
The problem you're having is because you are using multiple choice which really sorta defeats the whole point. The issue with clozemaster is it relies on using either multiple choice or text input, both of which suck. It needs an option for just self regulated pass fail. If I understood it I say pass, of not I say fail.
@morrist8727
@morrist8727 Год назад
Well that's what memise and Anki is for. Multiple choice is still a method that can help you memorize words.
@nandoflorestan
@nandoflorestan Год назад
You can cover the 4 choices with your hand, do the exercise, and then pass or fail by choosing the correct or a wrong choice. But I think you misunderstand the point. Clozemaster isn't about understanding a sentence, it is about completing it with the right word. If you want another exercise then use something else (I also recommend Anki).

Doesn't seem too appealing. I think the design is ugly and the concept is pretty repetitive. You have words in context even in Duolingo and especially in Babbel.

@owenthompson5214 3 года назад
The thing I don't like about babbel is the clicking button system
@FingtamLanguages
@FingtamLanguages 3 года назад
I actually thought the design was cool, but I realize that's just a personal opinion. Duolingo gives you words in context, but there is no SRS implementation. Duolingo would probably be better for the first month or two, but I think Clozemaster is more useful than Duolingo once you've reached a mid-beginner level.
@nandoflorestan
@nandoflorestan Год назад
Duolingo keeps making me translate to the source language... that's a bad exercise, it makes me think in the source language. I prefer to think in the language being learned. Clozemaster doesn't have this problem. Clozemaster does not replace duolingo, it is a nice complement to acquire vocabulary faster.
